Great space for sundown cocktail parties. Interaction with GuestsI am available to guide you to the best restaurants and local events or you can just have dinner in your room. It's a really nice space for a longer stay. You view the garden as well. Mt Dora is about 3 miles left and Tavares is 1.5 miles to the right. Try the highland cafe daytime and Goblin Market for dinner (lamb chops or fish) or lunch ( steak salad). Yum, I'm getting hungry writing this. Local restaurants include Japanese, Irish, Italian, American, Indian, Saigon, German, Chinese, Mediterranean and Mexican restaurants as well. In fact you could eat at a different restaurant for months here. The one that cracks me up is the Magical Meat Boutique! Go figure. I hear they do a great big English breakfast on weekends. The NeighborhoodWe live on Lakeshore Dr. which is similar to 17 mile Dr near Carmel CA. It is in an upscale neighborhood which offers a vast variety of homes that are in themselves all interesting.
It makes you feel good to drive down Lakeshore. The big old moss covered Oak Trees are so majestic that it just puts a smile on ones face and makes you feel peaceful.
The homes are all different, as are the docks. One is more interesting than the next.
If you come here to stay you will love it. Everyone does. Many stay longer than intended.
It IS hard to leave this peaceful place. If you like to fish you'll see a lot of our dock. Right now guests are catching and returning huge big mouth bass. Soon Talapia will be swimming around waiting for you. Catfish are out there too, and turtles.
This place is a nature preserve, in fact there is a wetland behind our property with lots of birds. We host quite a few bird species each year. Right now we have black Crows, Cardinals, some small birds I can't identify and of course our Owls. Last year they had a nest in our pine tree and this year they do too. I can't find the nest this year but I can hear them. Watching the squirrels steal the bird food makes you wonder how they got so smart. No matter how we try to keep them away from the feeders they always figure it out. Did you know a squirrel can run up a vertical concrete pillar?
We named our property Villa Autunno which means Autumn. My husbands name is Herbst, which also means Autumn. He is half Austrian and half Italian and when our kids went to Italy they thought we needed to name our home. So there you have it. They brought the letters home and our home was named "Villa Autunno." Getting AroundWalmart, Publix and other shopping is about 2 miles from here. Duncan Donut and Starbucks a few minutes away if you're hooked. There are so many shops in Mt Dora that you could spend a week and not see them all.
Don't miss Em'z on 5th if you want some really great tops.
Bring black pants and go to Emz and Clara will fix you up. It is awesome.
Check out "Under the Cherry Blossoms" where you make a wish on a paper and Lynn will make sure it gets posted on the ceiling with the other thousand little blossoms. Ask her to show you "Linda's Cards" as I have some of my hand made artist cards there for sale.
And say Hi to Debbie across the street at Matamo (an awesome shop) where I have some really cute "Angel" earrings for sale.
You can rent a little 2 seat Craig-cat and go on a caravan through the Dora canal or hop on a large pontoon boat and get a tour guide to tell all.
We have a wonderful marina in Mt Dora and it is all lit up for the holidays. Don't miss this if you come before the end of January.
Bring a kayak if you have one.
Bikes are a good way to get aroud here too so if you have some you may want to bring them. If you don't we have two here for your use. But we have 3 rooms so it's iffy. You can also try out a Segway and follow the leader all around downtown Mt Dora.
Walking to downtown Tavares takes about 20 minutes. It is a 4 min. drive. Mt Dora is about 6 min drive @35mph.
"The Icehouse Theatre" & Eustis "Bay Street Theatre" have good shows.
You can check (URL HIDDEN) for a great list of what is happening here right now.
Also check out (URL HIDDEN) for up to the minute activities in Tavares, America's seaplane city.
If you love antiques and flea markets you'll have to check out Renningers on 441 (Friday, Saturdays or Sundays). One side is all antiques and the other side is a Flea Market with fresh veggies, the best fish and steaks. There is a 30' long candy place with jar after jar of all your childhood favorites.
The airport is just under an hour away.
Disney is a 50 minutes South West of here.
And if you stay here you will be soo soo glad you are not in that congested smelly traffic all day long. You do tend to get "Disney'd out" .
This place is a breadth of fresh air. Book it now, you'll be glad you did. Other Things to NoteWe have lots of festivals here some weekends and of course we have Renningers which is the biggest Antique and Flea market in the country. There is also a sea plane base in Tavares (Americas Seaplane City) and you can get a ride in a seaplane.
The Dora canal is another can't miss tour. It is a one mile long canal with high trees lining the canal hosting so many different kinds of birds it will amaze you. Eagles, egrets, osprey, huge grey heron and black cormorants that open their wings to dry them and appear to be dancing.
We have alligators, and huge turtles and if you get to see the family of otters you are having a very lucky day as they don't come out for everyone.
Right now (December) you may get to see the small baby gators and they were born about 2 months ago.
Both Mt Dora and Tavares have trains that make a fun little trip around the area. Kids love it, especially when Thomas the train is here. I heard a little 3 year old boy hug the train and say, "I wuv you Thomas."
You can ice skate in downtown Tavares during events. Your youngsters can ride a disk down a snow hill (real snow blown in) in Donnelly Park in Mt Dora.
That same park offers free movies on weekends. See Mt Dora Buzz for times.
