It has a well stocked supermarket and a variety of cafes and eateries. Every year in April, Te Kuiti hosts the “running of the sheep” and national shearing championships. The wider King Country area is famous for its Maori heritage, sheep and cattle farming, and striking limestone landforms amongst rolling hills and native forests. Attractions include “The Hobbit” set tours (Hairy Feet), hiking, fishing, and mountain biking. We are very centrally located between the main North Island tourist destinations:1 hour from Hamilton; 1.5 hours from Taupo and Tongariro National Park; 2 hours from New Plymouth and Rotorua; and 2.5 hours from Auckland International Airport.       The SpaceMoketenui SQ has recently been refurbished and has a classic rural charm with modern amenities. Enjoy the light airy space of open plan living that opens out onto an expansive deck. 2 bunkrooms are situated at the end of this living space. 3 double rooms open out onto the deck. At the other end of the deck there is a door to the ablution block. The deck over looks breath taking views of the King Country. Perfectly located for the Timber Trail with shuttles available. Guest AccessThe gate at the shearers quarters needs to be kept closed at all times. You can drive up to the deck to unload your gear and there is plenty of parking available within the grounds. Please take extra caution on Barker Rd. Moketenui Station is a working sheep and beef farm and stock are often moved along this road, please leave gates as you find them. Petrol and small convenience shop. The Timber Trail - Pureora Forest Park. 85km mountain bike ride that can be done over 1 - 2 days. We are ideally situated as within 35mins of the start (Pureora), middle (Piropiro) and end (Ongarue) of the trail. Shuttle bus's can collect you from the door. Please advise at time of booking. There are also many walks and other trails in the area. Te Kuiti - 25 min drive north on SH30 Closest shopping centre. Newly opened restaurant in old Railway Building called Stoked Eatery. Waitomo - 40 mins drive north Huhu restaurant, Waitomo caves and adventure caving activities Piopio - 25min drive north east Explore this thriving rural village, including Hairy Feet - the scenic farm location used for the troll and campfire scenes in the Hobbit: Unexpected Journey, enjoy delicious food at the Fat Pigeon Café and Night Owl restaurant and fresh berries from the berry orchard and further to the rugged Taranaki coastline.       The SpaceAt Greenmount Llamas we are halfway between Hamilton and New Plymouth. Taupo is just 2 hours drive, with Rotorua about the same time as Taupo. Waitomo Caves 45 mins, Hairy Feet just 25mins. Or you could do a Llama Trek while you stay with us... A very unique experience with friendly guides and llamas. Views of the mountains and open wide country side...what more could you want? Guest AccessYou will be able to use the guest wing and also our living area as well as use our kitchen for tea/coffee making facilities. We do not allow guests to use our kitchen for cooking. Breakfast supplied but dinner needs to be booked and a cost of $35p/adult. Wine will be supplied with dinner. There are some great eating places locally though.       "Birdsong Cottage" is situated within a beautiful award winning garden with stunning views from the front verandah, and amazing rural views from the rare windows. There are many walks to many very interesting scenery spots, and farm walks, and of course garden walks to which you are very welcome to do at your own leisure. We are also reasonably close to the Wiatomo Caves, and the Kokako bird sanctury and two very nice water-falls. We also have a museum for you to view, also. It is a very attractive, comfortable self contained (catering) Cottage with free-view TV, iron, hair-dryer, small library of books, and other amenities that one requires when on holiday, queensize bed, plus couch for comfort, continental breakfast is inclusive within the price which consists of cereal, fruit, toast with selection of spreads. Incidentally, we also have lots of lovely friendly animals around the place, such as two farm dogs, two pet dogs, a donkey and a draught horse, plus a pet lamb.           Clean basic accommodation available. Enjoy the great out doors with km's of hiking trails and bush. With streams may even find a trout. The Rangitoto Forest restoration are neighbors with a brilliant native bird breeding program especial the Kokako (dawn chorus) now being caught and sent to other places. The Pureora state forest is behind us. Travel to the top of Mt Rangitoto at 976m asl just because you can. Bring your friends, family, even the horses, bikes just check out of life and get away and enjoy whats in your backyard. Clay bird shooting etc can all be arrange. We will try to put together packages to suit everybodies needs. Special conditions: Dogs by permission (outside only) with currant dosing and vac certs as this is a working sheep andamp; beef farm. Horses. @ $15.00 per horse per day. Experienced riders may ride some trails by themselves, others guide only. Guide charges are $15. per hour. Transport for bikes can be arranged Ample truck and camper van accommodation and turning. All other activities can be quoted for on request. Children - this is a large station children can be at high risk if not supervised at all times.             The SpaceOur large shared family room is tastefully decorated and is an inviting place to relax for the night. It consists of 1 x Queen, 1 x King Single, 1 x Single trundler (KS & Single can be made into a large king by request). 1 x Queen width Sofa-bed for 5/6th persons. The kitchen has two hot plates, pots/frypan, fridge, microwave, with complimentary tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided along with the usual plates, mugs, glasses, cutlery, toaster, jug etc for 6 persons. As this house is divided into two separate sides ( see our Queen/Twin unit) there is a locked door between the two sides to ensure your privacy. Guest AccessThe large decking outside has been purpose built to provide guests with a refreshing place to enjoy the quiet outdoor ambience of this very rural township, a great place to share together, soaking up the relaxed pace of the area. Your access to it will be from the rear of the house. Also out the back of the house is a large 'lean-to' off the shed, providing a casual place to gather while using the BBQ. Extra plates and tools have been provided here for your use. Interaction with GuestsOur Manager does not live on site but is close by and contactable once you are there for any further help. As your time of arrival may be uncertain we have made provision for the keys to be left available for you. We will advise you as to where this is on your booking.
