The SpaceSee the reviews - guests are always impressed. Te Puru is 12 km north of Thames and is right across from the beach and easy walks in the hills. The Coromandel Peninsular is a prime tourist area of New Zealand and this makes for a great base to explore the region. Continental breakfast is provided in the cupboard and fridge as a help yourself. Teas and coffee are there too. You have your own kitchen area to cook your own food also (shop in Thames on the way up for supplies). There are a queen and a single bed in one bedroom - separated by a wardrobe, so some privacy. There is also a kitchen / dining / lounge space and a separate bathroom. The furniture is not all shiny new but is really comfortable and homely. The deck is a lovely space on a sunny morning to have breakfast overlooking our back yard where you can watch the 3 chickens scratch around. This view also looks up to the Coromandel ranges. L.O.V.E.L.Y. Guest AccessYou have your own private entrance and off street parking space. Interaction with GuestsChatty or 'invisible' - it's up to you. We will always be here to welcome you when you arrive. The NeighborhoodThe beach and bush are both readily available. (The beach is across the road and is great for finding pretty shells and colourful stones. It is only an hour and a half to Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton, three of NZ's large cities. There is a small shop that sells a few food items and has a takeaway - fish n chips, burgers, ice cream etc. Getting AroundBest to have your own vehicle but hitchhikers have had no trouble making it here as well as there is a bus service from Thames once a day. Other Things to NoteThe kitchen includes a mini oven, gas cooker, microwave, toaster, plunger and teapot. If you need anything else, just ask. Chill out or take to the trails... it's all good here!

The SpaceThe one bedroom apartment is located at Thornton Bay, approximately 10 kilometres north of Thames. It comes with all linen and cleaning is included. The apartment is cozy and has everything you need, and tea and coffee is provided. The beach is less than 100 metres away, for safe all tide swimming and good fishing. The studio faces north for all day sun and takes in wide sea views off the large deck. The apartment backs onto the Coromandel Forest Park and the native birdlife is abundant. The Waiomu Cafe and the local general store / fish and chip shop are both less than 5 minutes away. Historic Thames is 10 minutes by car, and Coromandel Town is only 45 minutes drive up the beautiful Thames Coast Road. Auckland and Hamilton are both only 1 1/2 hours drive, and Auckland International Airport is just over an hour's drive. Its a great base for hiking, fishing, cycling, or just exploring the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. The well known destinations of Whitianga, Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, and Coromandel Town are all no more than 1.5 hours drive. Guest AccessGuests have full access to the apartment, which is completely self contained. There is a dedicated parking space and the access is via a concrete driveway. There is a barbecue available for guest use. There is a toaster, microwave oven, fridge, tea and coffee provided, but there is no hob or oven. Interaction with GuestsHosts John and Rose live in the house in front of the apartment and will be happy to assist with any special requests or information. Our old cat Ming is very friendly and will make you feel welcome! The NeighborhoodThornton Bay is a quiet neighbourhood with a nice beach and views over the firth of Thames to Waiheke island. There are about 50 houses, most of which are retired people or holiday houses. There is a micro-climate, with no frosts and temeratures often a few degrees warmer than Thames. Getting AroundThere are two buses passing on the state highway per day and can be waved down for pickup. A taxi can be arranged if required to Thames. The best form of transport is to rent or own a car. Other Things to NoteThe Thames ares is one of the most historical in New Zealand. Maori (Ngati Maru and Ngati Tamatera tribes) have been in the area for over 1000 years and there is much evidence on the coast of previous villages and fortified sites (pa). Captain Cook anchored at Waiomu (5km away) on his first visit. The area experienced a significant gold rush in the late 1800's and later the area was the site of large scale timber milling (many of the wooden houses in San Francisco are built from Kauri timber from the area). The Coromandel Peninsula now exists on mainly an economy of tourism, farming (including forestry), and aquaculture (mussel and oyster farming).

The SpaceJust 7 minutes drive north of Thames is Whakatete Bay - a stretch of sand and rocks surrounded by baches, a farm and bush covered hills. We live in a farmhouse villa above the state highway, away from road noise and coastal winds, with 2/3 acre of gardens. We have a sleep-out with attached kitchenette and toilet for guests to use. Guest AccessGuests have full access to the main house's kitchen and dining area, shower, bath, toilet, laundry, lounge and gardens. This is in addition to the kitchenette and toilet in the sleep-out. Guests are welcome to any of the fresh vegetables and fruits in season in our gardens. Interaction with GuestsWe are considerate hosts, and we can interact with you as much or as little as you wish. At the moment we only host on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, so we are sometimes available to show guests around. We have lots of information about the local area and the wider Coromandel. For ideas about what to do, type 'The Coromandel' into an internet search engine and you will find a good site. The sleep-out is lockable and you can come and go as you please. The NeighborhoodThe neighbourhood is peaceful and quiet, with access to nature and the beach. Getting AroundThere is no public transport, so you will need your own car. There is a parking space on the property near the sleep-out for you to use. Other Things to NoteWe have a dog called Tazmin. She is a labrador/staffordshire terrier cross. She will bark at you when you first arrive, but she does not bite and she will be very friendly when we let you in. She is allowed inside the villa, but not your sleep-out. If we don't hear your car when you arrive, please come through the gate and ring the doorbell.
