The SpacePlenty of greenery, quiet (when the donkeys aren't breying or the cockrels crowing). When the sun is shining it's just right to sit on the lawn with a cold drink and do nothing. When it's cold or raining, the mobile home is very cozy with the fire lit and the curtains drawn. Guest AccessLettuce and eggs when available, perhaps some peas or strawberries if you're lucky, you can collect them yourselves :) Off road parking with garden steps to the mobile home so it's unsuitable for wheelchairs and perhaps those with restricted mobility. Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet people, if you want to chat with us we would be delighted to tell you about the area but we won't cramp your style if you want a quiet time, we'll go with the flow. We live on the property but the mobile home is quite separate to the house with its own little lawn and seating area. The NeighborhoodPlenty of fishing opportunities, Dave is an avid fly fisher and can fish all day and talk for hours about it if you're interested. Also coarse (lake beside us) and sea fishing. Ox mountains nearby for hiking, quiet beaches, some great for surfing when the wind is right. Small village pubs for a good pint. Getting AroundNo public transport so a car or keen cyclists necessary. 25/30 minute drive from Knock airport. 10 minute drive to both Collooney and Ballymote. 5 minute drive to Coolaney village. Other Things to NoteWiFi won't penetrate the mobile home walls so I'm afraid you'll have to sit on the decking or in the garden to access it...

Getting AroundIt would be preferable to have a car as otherwise it will be difficult to get to shops, etc. Other Things to NoteOur buildings were made to the standards of earlier times – and sometimes without the intention that they should be lived in. Consequently you may encounter features that reflect their particular character but that deserve due care and attention, particularly by the young, elderly, less mobile or visually impaired. Examples of these are steps worn with age, uneven surfaces, low ceilings and beams, unexpected drops or changes in level, and by modern standards low or absent lighting. In all cases we have sought to make a sensible compromise between due regard for safety and the careful retention of the fabric of each building, which makes it an interesting place to stay. We ask you to appreciate and use the building with this understanding, and recommend you read the information in the Guest Book in the property

The SpaceThe Bed in Barn is a characteristic converted hay barn on its own 1 acre private plot. The hay barn with its arched roof on pillars was a common outbuilding on the Irish small farm and used to be a part of a 'small holding. Staying in the Barn will give you a 'super- glamping' experience. The Barn is carefully converted into a new eco-friendly, fully equipped accommodation, retaining the old 5 m high pillars and its 'barn' character. Take a stroll through your landscaped garden, enjoy the view on the valley and the mountains from your swing bench in the covered outdoor area, light a ciggie or make a barbeque without being rained upon. When you enter the Barn you step back in time. The rustic kitchen downstairs has a pantry with crockery and cutlery; two fridges, a toaster, a kettle, pots and pans and utensils to cook up a meal on the a wood fired 'old world' range. For a quick stir fry there is an electric hob. In the pantry you will also find some ingredients for a (basic) breakfast, porridge, cereals, tea, coffee, sugar, cooking oil, pepper and salt. From the kitchen a slightly steep staircase leads you up to the master bedroom ensuite and livingroom. The bedroom has a king size bed and a queens wardrobe, a chest and a wash basin. Linen, towels, shampoo and a hairdryer are provided. Situated between the bedroom and the living room, you will find the bathroom with a shower using rainwater heated by the range downstairs. An electric shower is standby to sprinkle a hot drop on you if the water from the range has gone cold. Then there is the spacious living room with reclining chairs and a couch that can be converted to a single or a double bed. If needed extra beds can be added. From this room you can enter the (ensuite) bathroom as well. For groups (up to nine) is an overflow (overnight only) accommodation available . We call it the 'HOBBIT HOUSE', a very basic converted cow shed, opposite the Bed in Barn. (see images). You can pluck the strings on the guitar, throw a dice on one of the board games or loose yourself in a book. We harvest rainwater to flush the toilet, take a shower, do the dish wash (left tap, hot water). Fresh drinking water (right tap, cold water) comes from our own well with its filtration system The main heat source is a wood burner (range) downstairs. It heats the water and the upstairs radiators. It is also the main hob for cooking - allthough an electric hob is available. Upon arrival you will get instructions how to light the fire in the range. Plenty of fire wood is at your disposal. We are happy to help you out on getting a fire going. Guest AccessThe Bed in Barn is situated on 1 acre private plot, with a natural landscaped garden, lower wetland surrounded by forestry and a view on the mountains. You can make a campfire as well. (see the images) You are welcome to bind your own book in our conservation- and book binding studio - The Ox Bindery - across the road; or pay a visit to our studio and gift shop and find that unique Irish hand-made gift to bring home. Interaction with GuestsWe are at present during your stay and available for all queries you might have. When you arrive we are around the Bed in Barn to welcome you, either in our cottage or the Ox Bindery (our studio) or somewhere on the property. Just knock on the door in case we missed your arrival. We like to say goodby when you check out. The NeighborhoodThe Bed in Barn is situated between Lough Easky and Lough Talt, great for fishing and water activities. Tucked away in the heart of the Ox Mountains it is the ideal place for hiking, walking, cycling and horse riding. Cycle tracks - we have bikes available - and walking trails and loopwalks run alongside it. Banada stables are nearby where you can explore the surroundings on horseback. If you are a surfer Easkey is a quick drive across the mountain. Wild Wet Adventures offers water activities on Lough Talt and Awesome Adventures near Dromore West, offers a.o. rafting, canoeing, kayaking etc. (see pictures) The Atlantic Ocean and the Wild Atlantic Way are just 20 km from here. Further afield you can visit Carrowmore Megalithic tombs & Ceide Fields, Museum of Country Life and much more. Getting AroundOwn transport is highly recommended, the nearest public transport (bus stop) is in Tubbercurry (15 km) Collecting - at some extra cost - at Charlestown bus stop and Ireland West (Knock) airport on request. Other Things to NoteThe Barn is (central) heated by the range (woodburner) and it takes some time to heat the water and the building. In this modern times, most people are used to an instant heating system by just switching on the thermostate, so it is advisable to bring a warm jumper. The 'DIY heating system' (range/stove) heats the water for the dishes, shower and radiators. We have a back up system for the shower (electric shower) and heating. So, you need to have the fire going to avail of hot water, (or boil a kettle to do the dishes) Kids under 2 of years are free of charge. For the baby, we have a carry cot available, feel free to bring your own travel cot if necessary. The Bed in Barn sleeps 6, but we are happy to welcome a group up to 9 guests. Extra basic overnight accommodation is available opposite the Bed in Barn. Minimum stay is one night, but for groups over 6 guests, the minimum stay is 2 nights. SOUTH SLIGO SUMMER SCHOOL - SPECIAL NOTES for the week of SUNDAY 9 - SATURDAY 15 JULY 2017 When you book the Bed in Barn, you will not share the Barn with other guests. The only exception is the 2nd week in July, (Sunday 9 - Sat. 15 July 2017) as we wish to accommodate participants of the South Sligo Summer School. Special rates will apply, please do contact us. Only bookings for thisFULL WEEK (Sat 9 - Sunday 15 July 2017)are taken and we might not approve or cancel shorter bookings requested or booked by instant booking The open staircase is a bit steep and has only one grabrail. Barbeque coal can be purchased on request. Two bikes can be hired on request. When you book you will receive a guidebook, full of things to do in our area. Moreover we have a lot of tourist information ( leaflets, brochures) at the Bed in Barn. There are many nice loopwalks in our area. We have maps available and are happy to give you more information (for an impression see also the pictures) We run also a bookbinding and conservation studio, The Ox Bindery and offer for interested guests a one day bookbinding course. Please do contact us in advance. WiFi. Wireless Internet is available free of charge. Here in the heart of the Ox Mountains we are depending on a satellite dish for internet connection. The Internet connection may be temperamental and therefore connectivity cannot be guaranteed. Moreover we have a limited data allowance It is the ideal place to wind down from the internet:) MOBILE reception. Depending on your provider you might have mobile reception in the barn. If not you can walk up the road/hill for 200 m. and you will/might catch a signal. Some guests request to check out later (or check in earlier). As we offer an Instant Booking service, unfortunately we can not be that flexible regarding the check-in/check out times. Contrary to the rythm of the marketplace, we have a FLAT RATE per night throughout all seasons of the year!
