The SpaceWe are in south Thurston county, not far from Olympia. We are very easy to find - you can get off the freeway, detour through Tenino, and then get back on the freeway having just saved yourself 15 miles of freeway driving! It is very peaceful and quiet here. The cottage is clean, spacious and light-filled, with garden and valley views. It's a comfortable and private home away from home in a beautiful part of the world. The cottage is separate and has an electronic lock programmed with a unique code for each guest so late arrivals are no problem. Our neighbors have horses and alpacas, and if you want to buy veggies to take home, you can visit one of our neighbors farms - she has a CSA and also sells vegetables. The cottage has its own patio area. There is a well-equipped kitchen, a very comfortable king-size bed and lots of places to sit and read or just look out the windows. The views include the vegetable/flower garden on one side, and the wildlife friendly landscape on the other. The kitchen is stocked with breakfast items and condiments and spices for cooking if you're in the mood. We can supply onions and garlic, kale and chard from our gardens. There are also several good restaurants within a couple of miles. Set just outside the small town of Tenino in Thurston country on 15 acres, the property has a Certified Wildlife Sanctuary designation. You can birdwatch, go for walks, or take advantage of nearby larger towns and cities. You can also get everything you may need at the local grocery, pharmacy, chocolate shop, antique stores and restaurants. Relax in the peace and quiet of your own space, wander through the gardens, go for walks on the quiet country roads, or sit outside on your own patio. You can check out a bike for free from Tenino's Yellow Bike program and ride on the extensive trail system that connects to the Chehalis-Western Trail. The cottage roof holds solar panels, we grow much of our own food and enjoy being stewards of nature. We are on Thurston County's Bountiful Byway, a scenic tour through the county's agricultural areas. Guest AccessGuest parking. After you've finished unloading, please park your car near the entry gate where it says "Guest Parking". Guests are welcome to walk through the gardens, head down to the creek across the fields, or just sit on the benches scattered around and watch and listen to the birds. My husband is a professional nature tour and birding guide and may be available to go birding in the morning if there is interest from a guest. If you are interested in cooking in the cottage, I'll show you what is available in the vegetable garden to eat. Interaction with GuestsWe lived in Seattle for many years and moved here for the peace and quiet and open space. We are just across the breezeway, and are available as needed to our guests, but are more than happy to let you explore the property on your own. We may be out working in the garden and I'm always happy to give a garden tour! And, Bob is a professional nature tour leader and can be counted on to show you what's in our yard, or tell you where you can go birding in the area. The NeighborhoodIt's the country, but town is close by. Tenino is a little over a mile away where there is a nice grocery store, a pharmacy, multiple restaurants, antique stores, the Scatter Creek Winery and Aunt Kate's Chocolates. We are on the Bountiful Byway in Thurston county where there are lots of things to do and see. Wolf Haven Sanctuary is a few miles away. It is just 10 minutes to Yelm where there are large grocery stores, movies theaters, an organic food coop, a great plant nursery, book stores and much more. It's 20-25 minutes to Olympia with access to myriad dining and entertainment options. Centralia, with its McMenamins Olympic Club in a historic building downtown, many antique stores and of course, the factory outlet stores, is less than 20 minutes away. We are surrounded by open space, farmland and forests and have a Certified Wildlife Sanctuary designation. There are amazing views of the Scatter Creek valley and nearby wooded hills. Many of our neighbors keep horses, sheep, or alpacas. We live on a country road with very little traffic, and it's just a couple of minutes from paved bike trails that wind for dozens of miles through rural scenery. Getting AroundYes. Rural Transportation offers public transportation services to Tenino and the other small local communities, and connects to Intercity Transit in Thurston County and Twin Transit in Lewis County. You can also check out a bike from Tenino's Yellow Bike program for free. The nearby 14.5 mile Yelm-Tenino Bike Trail runs east-west through south Thurston County and connects the communities of Tenino, Rainier and Yelm. The Yelm-Tenino Trail connects to the 22.5 mile Chehalis Western Trail, linking the cities of Tenino, Rainier and Yelm with Tumwater, Lacey, Olympia and Woodard Bay on Puget Sound. Other Things to NoteThis is a particularly good place to stay if you like the privacy and quiet of being in the country while knowing there are larger cities nearby. If you are a gardener or a birder, you will also appreciate it here. You can birdwatch, walk the country roads, visit a nearby marsh, hike or bike the Yelm-Tenino Bike Trail, or just hang out. Don't worry if you didn't bring a bike. You can check out a bike from Tenino's Yellow Bike program for free. Olympia is 20-25 minutes away and the Pacific Ocean beaches, as well as Seattle and Portland are close enough for day trips. Coffee and miscellaneous breakfast items are provided.

This 2 bedroom apartment is next to 2 ponds, has a waterfall in the back yard, Johnson Creek in the front yard, and fields and trails to explore. Comfy beds, a kitchen equipped with coffemaker and a selection of gourmet coffee, nice views and seclusion. Can accommodate up to 6 people. It is NOT handicap accessible, as you climb exterior stairs to get to the apartment. Children would need to be supervised at all times because of the close proximity of the ponds and river.
