Are you tired of crowded hotels during weekend holidays or holiday seasons?
Have you ever felt that most hotels you go to are offering pretty much the same experience?
Have you ever wanted to go on holiday and have the privacy to create your own adventure?
Welcome to Kanchanaburi Villa
Kanchanaburi Villa is located on the beautiful SriNakarin Lake, Tha Kradan, Amphur Si Sawat, in the Province of Kanchanaburi.
Here you will not have to worry about crowded weekend holidays or the same boring hotel experience. You will have complete privacy to create your own adventure the way you want, with your family and friends.
Kanchanaburi Villa has been with my family for the past 10+ years, it is my family's private lake house villa. It has been developed and polished to my Father's (Stephen Gormley) vision, who is a world renown glass artist. We would go up to this lake house for most of the major holidays with family and friends to create the most amazing memories. We explored the lake on jet-boat and jet-skis. We rode around on dirt bikes and ATVs, we went fishing, we kayaked, we barbequed and we even sat by camp fires and roasted marshmallows. It was, and still is amazing. So amazing, that I want to share this property with other people as well. I want to give people the same opportunities to create amazing memories at this lake house villa.
Making A Difference
I feel that making the world a better place is incredibly important, not only for the world around us but for ourselves. Kanchanaburi Villa is committing 5% of all profits to a non-profit called Zidisha.
Zidisha is a non-proft that helps people grow their small businesses to create sustainable income through person to person micro loans. In the spirit of entrepreneurship, we could not think of a better way to make a difference than what Zidisha offers.
Whenever you stay at Kanchanaburi Villa, know that you are helping to change someone's life for the better.
I hope you will enjoy creating awesome memories with your family and friends at Kanchanaburi Villa.
To your awesome adventure,

Information About The Region:
Kanchanaburi is ripe with interesting activities and sites to visit. Below are the main areas of interest that are close to Kanchanaburi.
The major attraction here is the Erawan waterfalls. There are 7 levels altogether. The first four are easily accessible as these are proper steps to it. The last three are slightly more challenging although manageable by both young and old.
You can swim in each level of the falls. If you decide to take a rest and simply dip your feet in the pool, you will experience a free fish spa. Although the fish can get pretty big. If you have never experienced this before, it can be quite interesting. The first few minutes are quite daunting as the fishes swim by and start nibbling away your old dead skin. The next sensation is that of being slightly ticklish and if you can withstand through that, you will start to enjoy the fish spa and end up with beautifully smooth and soft skin for your feet.
The best times to visit are during the week-days, when there are less tourist and the water is incredibly clear.
From Kanchanaburi; Erawan is located on highway 3199 and is a short 20 minute drive. Parking is 20 THB for a motorbike and 40 THB for a car.
Admission fee is 200 THB per person for a foreigner and 40 THB per person for Thais or foreigners with valid Thai work permit or Thai driving license (You must show your work permit or Thai driving license at the ticket booth). The fee also includes Pra That Cave which is another 10 Km north of Erawan Falls. Inside the caves are beautiful stalactites and stalagmites distributed among 4 big caverns. You will also find bats living in these caves.
Huay Mae Khamin Waterfalls
Another hidden gem is the Huay Mae Khamin Waterfalls. This is about 50 Km from Erawan Waterfalls. There are also 7 levels to this waterfall and it flows into the Srinakarin Dam Reservoir.
From the parking level, you can walk down to the first 4 levels and then back to the parking level and up to the remaining 3rd level

Hellfire Pass (Known by the Japanese as Konyu Cutting) was part of the Death Railway which was built during World War II. The pass was noted for its harsh conditions and heavy loss of life suffered by the labourers during construction. The labourers had to work up to 18 hours a day to complete the cutting. The sight of emaciated prisoners labouring at night by torchlight was said to resemble a scene from Hell, hence the name Hellfire Pass.
Hellfire Pass Memorial is dedicated to the Allied prisoners of war (POWs) and Asian labourers who suffered and died at Hellfire Pass and elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region during the Second World War. The Museum opens at 9am till 4am daily. Entrance to the museum is free. You can also rent an audio set by paying for a fully refundable deposit of 200 THB.
Today the trains no longer run this stretch of the line. The nearest train station is Nam Tok.
Hellfire Pass is about 80 Km from Kanchanaburi City. There are several ways to get there;
- Driving: Hellfire Pass is located on highway 323. It is about 80 Km from Kanchanaburi.
- Public bus: Take bus 8203 from Kanchanaburi Bus Station. The first bus is at 7.30am and there is a bus every hour. Last bus leaves at about 4.45 pm. Tell the attendant where you wish to be dropped off.
- Train and public bus: Take the train to Nam Tok and then switch to the bus 8203
- Tour: You can join a standard tour that covers hellfire pass and other places of interest.
There are several places of interest around the city that you can go on your own without any guide.
A) Bridge Over The River Kwai
Made famous by the movie "Bridge On The River Kwai", this place is popularly visited by all tourists. During WWII (World War II), the Japanese constructed the railway line from Ban Pong, Thailand to Thanbyuzayat, Burma. The line that passes through some of the most scenic views in this area is about 250 miles. This is now known as the Death Railway.
Many asian laborers and POWs lost their lives in building this railway line. Both living and weather conditions were unfavorable and the hard terrain did not make the job easier. It has been said that for every sleeper laid, one life was lost.
Today, the railway line stops at Nam Tok, a 2 hour ride from Kanchanaburi. After the war, the remainder of the line was destroyed because it was staid to be unstable. And every year the River Kwai Bridge Festival is organized to mark the Allied bombing of the bridge on the 28th November 1944.
B) War Cemetery
There are two war cemeteries in the area. The most popular one (Don Rak War Cemetery) is located in the main road (Sangchuto road). Another is located in Chungkai which is about 5km west from Don Rak War Cemetery.
C) Death Railway Museum
The Death Railway Museum (also known as Thailand - Burma railway Museum) is located just opposite the Don Rak War Cemetery.
If you have time for only one museum, this should be your choice.
You would need a good hour to walk around this museum and learn why the Death Railway had to be built and its history. In fact if you visit this museum first, you will get a better insight and understanding of the people involved in building the bridge.
D) Night-Life (Restaurants & Bars)
Restaurants and Cafe; Kanchanaburi has a myriad of restaurants and cafes to explore. The main street to find restaurants and cafes is called Maenam Kwai Road. Notable restaurants and cafes include; Bell's Pizzeria and Peace Cafe. Maenam Kwai is also a hot spot to meet local expats and back packers.
Night-Life; A long the Southern Side of Maenam Kwai Road you will find a variety of bars, which offer billiards and flat screen TVs. This is a great place to get a drink and meet back packers and locals. Notable Bars include; No Name Bar, Rasta bar, Baa Bar, and Aussie Bar.
Kanchanaburi Villa is right on Sri Nakarin Lake, which is in the mountains and is still considered a remote area. We recommend that you bring your own car or rent a car to get around and explore the area.
