The SpaceThe house oozes character having been completely build from recycled items from renovated properties in Cape Town. From the antique mahogany doors leading to the main bedroom to the balcony railing made from wattle wood from the farm, the property strives to minimize its foot print and to reuse recycle and renew. There is a rugby sized front lawn, and oak and poplar forests along the stream banks for shade and cool spots in summer. Guest AccessGuests have full access to all areas of the farm and are encouraged to explore - from the river banks, to the olive grove. The farms boundaries are the neighbors vineyard through which you enter, and then the two streams. The bot rivier, and one of its tributaries. Adventure out and see if you can find the island! Rest under the ancient oak trees planted by Willem van der Stel which shade the house and river banks. Play boules on the 5,000 m2 front lawn. Picnic under the poplars, rest in the pool, or enjoy the outdoor private bathroom. Interaction with GuestsJulian lives on the farm in the flat next to the main house on weekends, and a day or two during the week, but works in Cape Town. The area has been carefully designed so that guests and owner have completely separate spaces, and you will have complete privacy, unless you wish otherwise. Interaction will be as often or not as you require. There is internet in the farm, but little to none cell phone reception. The NeighborhoodIts farm country! Apart from the very occasional car driving along the van der Stell pass in the distance, there is no noise except for the birds, bees, and the occasional cow mooing across the stream. The silence is only matched by the stars on a clear night, and picnic blankets are provided to lie in the middle of the field or olive grove at night and watch the milky way. Getting AroundYou will need your own transport, as there is no public transport anywhere nearby. The farm is on a 3km dirt road (van der Stel pass), which is in excellent condition as it is used by the local apple trucks. Any car (except low sports cars) will be able to make the drive. Other Things to NoteWhilst other animals will joint the farm, currently there are just the three cats. You are welcome to bring your dogs as well as they are well behaved and get on with cats, and are happy to roam.

Rustic timber cabin situated at the entrance to the farm, right beside the Bot River. The river flows gently most of the year, but can be quite hectic after heavy rains. Always interesting and beautiful, with natural bush and birdlife. Cold in winter

The SpaceSwaynekloof Farm is a very picturesque farm, situated along the Bot Rivier. Beautiful picnic spot and gorgeous mountain views, make this relaxing venue a must for all looking for somewhere just to chill. Guest AccessOur guests can walk around the lower paddocks of the farm and see the sheep and cows, or take picnics near the river. We do have ostriches, eland, springbok and zebras in the 'game park', at the back of the farm, but we suggest either going by car or joining Pete, the owner when he goes up there to feed the animals. The game animals are fairly tame and you can get some lovely photos. Interaction with GuestsThe owners of the farm live in the thatched house above Swaynehuis and are usually on the farm 24/7. They are very welcoming and love to meet folks from all over. The NeighborhoodSwaynekloof Farm is only 30 minutes from Hermanus, and 7 minutes from Botrivier. We are on the wine route and surrounded by beautiful vineyards and fruit farms. Getting AroundAlthough the Vanderstelpas Road is a dirt road, it is well maintained by the DA run municipality in Botrivier, so a 4x4 is not necessary. However, you do need your own transport as official transport is non-existent. Other Things to NoteOur neighbour, Cornellskop, has lions, cheetahs, hyena and other exotic animals. Wake up each morning to the sound of lions - just like in a game park! You can interact with these beautiful beasts when you book "Exclusive Animal Encounters" with Luke and his team. Swaynekloof guest may get a discount!
