The SpaceThis unique, modern era home offers a nostalgic glimpse into the past history of the Salton Sea. The kitchen, dining, and living spaces are open with window views of the Chocolate Mountains and the Salton Sea. It is a pleasant and peaceful experience to view the changing light in the landscape as time passes throughout the day; Sunsets and sunrises across the Salton Sea are spectacular. The Sea house has one king size bed, one queen, one full, and a sofa bed. There are no square rooms in the home, and everything is designed with a dynamic balance of angles. A wonderful experience for any mid-century enthusiast. There is a patio just outside the dining area that provides a nice place to sit and enjoy the brilliant desert mornings or warm desert nights. Guest AccessGuests will have access to all rooms in the home as well as use of the washer and dryer located in the garage. Interaction with GuestsOwners will not be on-site, but guests will have access to management and handyman, when necessary. The NeighborhoodNorth Shore is a sparsely populated rural community overlooking the Salton Sea. One of the unique aspects of our neighborhood is the rich blend of cultures. You will see a mix of retirees as well as many families that have immigrated from Mexico to live and work in the Coachella Valley. Once a vacation destination, now it is a close knit community of working class people. We thoroughly enjoy the rural, uncomplicated, and unpretentious nature of the area along with the slower pace of life that often reminds us of a time long gone. The neighbors immediately surrounding the home are wonderful. Some homes in the neighborhood are well kept and others are not, however, this is all a part of life in the changing landscape of the Salton Sea. The neighborhood is safe and usually very quiet except for occasional music heard from nearby neighborhood evening events. There is a train that comes through regularly, and we enjoy the nostalgic sound. Getting AroundThis is a rural environment. There are two small markets close to the house that offer essentials. 10 minutes north is Coachella and 20 miles north of the home, in Indio, there are many stores such as Target, Marshalls, Home Depot, Winco, Walgreens, as well as many restaurants and a couple casinos. It is about a 30- 40 min drive to Palm Desert an hour to Borrego Springs and the south entrance to Joshua Tree National Park can be accessed via Box Canyon (about a 40min drive from the house). Other Things to NoteThe Salton Sea has many interesting sites to explore. Hiking and scenic desert walks can be found at Dos Palmas Oasis, Box Canyon, and Painted Canyon - all within a 5 to 10 minute drive from the home. Dos Palmas is particularly beautiful with vast desert vistas and crystal clear water in the Oasis - it is a jewel that is rarely visited. A family owned organic date farm is just down the road in Mecca where different varieties of dates can be sampled and purchased. These are some of the best dates we have tasted in the region and visits to the date farm can be scheduled in advance. The Salton Sea State Recreation Area and the iconic North Shore Yacht Club are all within minutes of the home. Of(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN)eat sights like Salvation Mountain, Slab City, Bombay Beach and the geo-thermal mud volcanos are also quite close - within a 20-30 min. drive south. Sunsets are spectacular along the Salton Sea, and the east side, where our home is located, is a favorite of professional photographers as it faces the setting sun. It is also much quieter than the west side which sees a lot more hwy traffic. We know you will enjoy exploring the desert along the North Shore of the Salton Sea. Our family has lived here for the past 30 years and we are happy to provide you with information on the many things to do and see in this unique and often overlooked part of the state.
