We try to leave enough firewood, kindling and tissue paper for your convenience for backyard fires but ask that guests who use a lot of wood to please replace it for the next guest as we live in Chicago (fyi-it can be purchased in town at various locations like Three Oak's gas station, Hardings grocery, and 5 & dime store.)
You'll have access to the entire house and yard except for the locked basement.
While we live in Chicago and will most likely not be present during your stay, we're usually accessible by phone/text; we'll leave instructions & our contact information if you have any questions as well as for a neighbor across the street & our housekeeper near town should you need anything.
My husband, Patrick Williams is a Chicago Chef and may be available on occasion for private cooking classes or dinner parties for a separate charge. If interested, let us know! The following is a guest review for Chef Patrick: "After a long hot day at Silver Beach, we relaxed as Chef Patrick prepared a wonderful meal FOR us. What a treat to have someone else cook and cleanup!! But the best part was his skill in the kitchen... everyone at the table was pleased and wanted to know when we could do that again! It was a special treat for a special celebration, but we would absolutely want him to come over again when we are back that way."
Our comfortable but beautifully updated cottage is in a quiet area of quaint Three Oaks and many all-season attractions: its 4+ blocks to Journeyman Distillery (in the Featherbone Factory building), Acorn Theater, New Leaf Lounge, Vicker's Movie Theater, Viola's, Frochlich's, Driers Butcher shop, Elm St Bistro, Pleasant House, & downtown Three Oaks (bike rental, shops, antiques, restaurants, etc); a quick ride to Hardy's grocery store, Featherbone Tavern, Horizon Bank, a gas station, & laundry on U.S 12. (Main Street-aka Three Oaks Rd-will take you to downtown Sawyer & Warren Dunes). If you're from Chicago, you may appreciate getting away from all the traffic and crowds that gather in New Buffalo each summer and enjoy the simple pleasures of quaint and relatively quiet Three Oaks. (I know I do!) On clear nights take a little walk around the corner towards the cornfield and look up in the sky...you'll see LOTS of stars that you won't see in Chicago's sky. Gorgeous!!
