The SpaceOur space is 'unique' because of its beautiful architecture and colourful interior decorating. We promote living with the environment - through use of architectural features of shutters, bifolded doors etc. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house and the swimming pool and a downstiars lockup (key provided) with wash facilities. THere is one under-house sheltered car-park reserved for guests. Interaction with GuestsWe do not live on site but the property manager lives close by and will organise access and trouble shoot any problems while you stay. there is a separate private tenanted apartment underneath the Tree Top House. This is necessary to facilitate pool maintenance. Living areas, entrances and garden areas of the two spaces are separate. Only the use of the pool and car-port is shared. We ask guests and tenants to mutually respect one another’s privacy. The NeighborhoodLOCAL ATTRACTIONS Nakara is a lovely quiet suburb with several child-friendly parks / playgrounds within a block from the house. Casuarina shopping centre, which includes a wide variety of shops, a movie house and a few restaurants, is 10 minutes walk from the house. Buses into town depart regularly from the depot at the centre. The centre is open 7 days a week (Saturday until 5pm and Sunday until 3pm) and on Friday evenings until 9pm. Banks, ATMs and the local post office are also located at the centre. There is a public library on Bradshaw terrace opposite the centre. Casuarina beach and cliffs (ideal for sunset drinks or picnics) are 10 minutes walk from the house. The tide is very variable however, when it is low, you can walk for miles along the beach. There is rain-forest adjacent to the Casuarina beach and there are cycle paths that run through this area. You are advised to take mosquito repellent however should you venture that away. Generally it is recommended not to swim at the beach between the months of October to May for risk of ‘stingers’ (poisonous box jellyfish) however some extend that caution to the whole year. The immediate first aid for a box jellyfish sting is to apply vinegar to the area. Some vinegar is supplied in the house however we hope you have no cause to use it!. Royal Darwin Hospital is 5 minutes by car or ~ 20 minutes walk from the house – we hope you don’t need top go there! The hospital switch-board number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) of Darwin’s best attractions is the local market scene. Close to Nakara there is a) Rapid Creek market - Sunday mornings b) Nightcliff market also Sunday mornings. The other 2 popular markets – Mindil beach (Thursday and Sunday evenings) and Parap market (Saturday mornings) are further afield though buses from Casuarina Square Shops will take you there. MINDIL MARKET DOES NOT OPERATE THROUGH THE ‘WET SEASON’. A local street directory is available in the phone book, kept by the phone. Getting AroundThe Casuarina Shop centre (5-10 minute walk through the park) is a major bus terminal. There are local buses also one block from our house. Other Things to NoteSwimming Pool -The swimming pool is for shared use between upstairs and downstairs tenants. It is serviced monthly however it also requires a small amount of routine maintenance by those who are using the pool. -All guests are asked to assist pool maintenance by using the pool scoop to remove leaves from the water surface before each use. Please leave the scoop in the shade – if left in the sun it quickly perishes. -The pool filter operates automatically and comes on according to preset times (timer on switch on orange wall in pool area). -The pool area is enclosed with a regulation fence and 2 self-locking gates (with keys in the gate locks for use if required). We recommend guests leave the gates locked if children are in the property. -Any problems or concerns about the pool or the gate should be reported immediately. -The pool ladder is not fixed to the bottom of the pool (as the pool is a liner only) so may tip if the handles are pulled back from the outside. -The limestone ‘pillar statue’ next to the pool is placed where it is in order to prevent anyone bumping their head on the corrugated overhang. Please do not move it under any circumstances! Lock-up area There is a lock-up / storage area underneath the house inside the garage on the right hand side as you approach the house. This area is for shared use by both downstairs and upstairs tenants. The washing machine in this area is dedicated for use by upstairs guests and by the cleaners who service the house. Washing powder is provided. Barbecue A WEBER barbecue is situated on the verandah. It is not gas powered; heat beads are required for use. These are stored in the downstairs lock-up. BBQ tools are also stored with the beads, others are hanging off the side bars of the pantry in the kitchen. Out of respect to other tenants, please clean the WEBER after use. It is difficult to clean if left for later. A recipe book for the WEBER is on the upstairs bookshelves for those who may be interested. Gates For reasons of security and also out of respect for the downstairs tenants, please close the gates after entering and leaving the property. A padlock can be provided if you wish the added security (eg children). Child-safety issues As with any house, parents or guardians should take care to be responsible for their children’s safety. Due to the design of the Tree-Top House, parents need to be particularly careful to supervise children in the rooms with the open shutters and the open cupboards / shelves, on the verandah and in the swimming pool area. a)Verandah safety gate:- a child safety gate is available for use when small children are staying. It is kept in the downstairs lock-up. When the gate is at the top of the verandah stairs, please do not let older children play or lean on the gate. It does not withstand this sort of force and may slip forward. Parents need to regularly check the stoppers on each side of the gate to be sure they haven’t worked their way towards the edges of the steel – if so, nudge them back or use the spanner to loosen / tighten the gate (it is in the top drawer of the bamboo drawers as you enter the house). b)Oven / microwave:- We have fixed child safety ‘locks’ on the oven and microwave doors to limit access however we also recommend you a) turn off the microwave at the wall and b) do not allow your toddler in the kitchen area unsupervised when the oven is in use as the front of the door will get hot(URL HIDDEN) Services 1.The Tree-Top house is cleaned prior to your arrival and after your departure. Linen is washed and changed. Spare linen, should you need it, is in the cupboards or on the shelves in the rooms or in the hallway. Weekly cleaning can also be arranged during your stay at $30/hour. 2.Council rubbish bins are provided – please place your rubbish in the bins and place the bins on the verge on Tuesday evenings (recycle bin alternate weeks only). Owners’ Personal Property Some personal goods are stored in the tops of the cupboards and in the downstairs lock-up. Please treat these items with respect. We are happy for you to use the books and CDs that have been left out on the shelves. Breakages Please report any breakages or damage to any goods to Anja our caretaker. Any major damages will be billed to you at the end of your stay (eg structural damage to the house).
