The SpaceOur little cottage is quiet and cozy with a wood fired stove, the kitchen and common areas are in the rice shop itself. Guest AccessYou will have full access to showers, a fully stocked kitchen, bikes, Wi-Fi, free rice, miso and seasonal vegitables and free rides to local hot springs! Interaction with GuestsThere is always someone in the shop to help with questions or travel plans and we sometimes cook and eat together with guests. We often have international volunteers staying on the farm too!
Guests may use all areas of the main building except areas reserved for staff only The NeighborhoodMurayama is a small town surrounded by mountains and forests with hot springs in every direction. If you would like to go searching for monkeys or take a walk through the rice paddies then Murayama is the place to be. We have some great places to eat in town too!
Around the guesthouse is a normal Japanese residential area, but less than 5 minutes walk will take you to fields and rice paddies with mountains all around. In March and April especially the sunrise around 6am is very beautiful on the mountains.
Japan's largest rose park is very close and can be reached on foot or by bike, it's a great place to relax with a beer and a book!
The local area is famous for soba noodles, be sure to try some while you are here.
Famous sight seeing spots include Ginzan onsen, Mt. Zao and Yamadera, all accessible by public transport in about 90 minutes. The town of Sakata by the Sea of Japan is 2 hours by train, where you can enjoy a Maiko (geisha) dance performance at a traditional tea house and see Yamagata's famous mummified monks. Getting AroundJR bullet trains come direct from Tokyo. As do night busses. Busses also run to and from Sendai regularly.
