The SpaceThe cabin is 30 mi south of St. John's near Tors Cove. On Irish Loop, near East Coast hiking trails and LaManche Provincial Park, whale/seabird tours, Ferryland, etc. Cabin is 24 x 26 with vertical wood siding and pine interior, cathedral ceiling, and has NF and Mexican collectibles, wall hangings, etc. Sorry if the pictures are coming up a bit fuzzy. It is on its own acre of land on the lake (called Tors Cove Pond) and has no other cabins visible from it. Large front windows and deck give a beautiful view of the lake. Private but not secluded. There are 2 bdrms upstairs -one with dble bed, one with twin beds. Bathroom is also upstairs and has a tub and shower. The water system is piped up from the pond and gravity fed, so not high pressure. Drinking water is in the pantry. Three day minimum in summer. The cabin has an open concept downstairs with a fully equipped kitchen (dishes, pots pans, toaster, coffee maker), living room (double sofa bed) and front opening wood stove as well as electric heaters), and eating area. All linens and towels are there. Pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, etc. There is a small lawn area and also rock gardens on property. It has lake frontage, the water does not get too deep too quickly, good for swimming. There is a gas BBQ on the front deck. Guest AccessYou have the entire cabin to yourselves. Beachfront is public from 30 m. of waterline. Interaction with GuestsI am usually available by phone (I live in the city). The NeighborhoodThis is a rural area, some cabins, some year round residents. All are on an acre of land. Safe and quiet. Getting AroundRecommend having own vehicle or arranged transport, there is no public system there. Other Things to NoteI live in St John's. We must preferably meet there before you go to the chalet so I can give you the key and map with exact directions. Otherwise I can email you directions if it seems meeting out there is the better idea. You can email me after booking as well so that I can give you full information on the cabin, how to operate certain things, etc. Birch firewood can be purchased at local stores, I also have some softwood onsite for purchase if you wish. There is scrap lumber there for campfires in the pit on lawn.

The SpaceThis house is about 100 years old. From 1945 until 2008, it was owned by one family who ran a small farm until the 1970s, with Newfoundland ponies, sheep, hens... I bought it in 2008 and spent two years renovating. Even after all the tearing out and rebuilding, there's a nice feeling that's still here, of a place that's been cared for. Interaction with GuestsEither myself or a friend will be available by phone in case you have questions during your stay. The NeighborhoodThe Irish Loop Cafe is about 10 minutes walking from the house, and is open May-October. There's a shop, "Needs" within a few minutes walk. They have some basic groceries and a post office. There's also a Home Hardware within walking distance. The closest supermarket is Foodland in Bay Bulls, seven minutes driving. Other Things to NoteThis house isn't a "hotel" space. It's my place when I'm in Newfoundland, so there are books on the shelves and a few things here and there. The smallest bedroom has several tupperware storage boxes behind the door, and some boxes on the desk. It's also not a modern house. There is no basement so the main floor is cold on the feet in the winter. Be sure to bring slippers. In the coldest parts of the year, there's a potential for the hot water to the kitchen sink to freeze up (does not affect the hot water in the rest of the house). To avoid this happening, I leave the tap dripping hot water when the temperature is below zero - works perfectly. However, if you forget and it freezes, no stress. It's easy to fix with a hair dryer - just call me or Cathy and we can guide you through, or come out and fix it.
