The SpaceMango Lodge is a secluded timber house with open-plan living and surrounded by nature. Inside the high ceilings, numerous doors and windows and open style gives the house a light and airy feel. Outside the huge roofed deck gives you space to relax or dine with a beautiful view of the Caribbean Sea. The half-acre garden surrounds you with nature and gives you a feeling of being hidden away from the world. It also provides numerous fruits and flowers from mangoes to limes, heliconia to hibiscus. But this is no isolated jungle cabin. A two minute walk through the garden brings you out in the centre of the Toucari bay-front where to your left you have the village with its Rum Shops, fishing boats and kayak/paddle-board hire. A minute or two walking through the village and you are at the beach where you can relax or go snorkelling out to one of the best sites on the island. Mango Lodge sleeps up to 6 guests in 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, ceiling fan and doors that open out onto the deck with views of the ocean (yes you can sit up in bed and gaze out to the Caribbean Sea). The second bedroom has a queen-size bed plus a single bed, ceiling fan and views of the garden. There is also a stylish day-bed in the living area. All beds have quality mattresses, superior bedding and mosquito nets. The spacious bathroom has an electric shower with instant hot water. The kitchen is large, simple and fully equipped with stove, fridge-freezer, coffee machine, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine and all the glassware, crockery and cookware you could need. Guest AccessEarliest arrival is 3pm Latest departure is 10am Interaction with GuestsDepending on the time of year, we are either next-door to help with any questions, or back in Europe on the end of email. The NeighborhoodMany of the tourist sites promoted in Dominica are in the south (where the cruise ships dock). But here in the north-west we have lots of adventures which, though less advertised, are also less busy and just as spectacular. Fill your vacation with Cabrits National Park with the island's only fort, Fort Shirley, the mangrove "Pirates of the Caribbean adventure up Indian River, the parrots and rainforest of Syndicate Trail, our waterfalls and bathing pools at Milton Falls, Lapluy Falls and Lamothe River Falls, our own volcano, Cold Soufriere, your closest beach at Toucari with it's reef snorkelling and the islands largest beach at Purple Turtle with it's picturesque anchored yachts plus Rainforest horse-back riding, kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, and more, all within a walking distance or a short drive. Getting AroundWe strongly recommend a rental car for your stay. We recommend Island Car Rental for their modern and well maintained fleet, and a 4x4 for the condition of the roads post-tropical storm Erika. Other Things to NoteIn 2008 we spent 6 weeks touring the island of Dominica trying to decide if it was the place to buy a holiday home and if so, where. Once we had found Toucari all doubts disappeared. Small, rural and with it's own beach, bay and snorkelling. A lifetime away from the hustle and bustle of the big towns and yet only a 10 minute drive to the commercial and social opportunities of Portsmouth. And of course Mango Lodge fit every criteria of a home to buy - Location (Dominica) Location (village with ocean views) Location (secluded among it's own gardens).

Guest AccessToucari has the advantage of being off the beaten track but only 10-15 minutes drive to a good choice of restaurants and bars and grocery shopping. The biggest advantage of being based in the North however is having a wonderful choice of hikes, beaches and interesting sites to visit where you hardly ever see another tourist. The cruise ship passengers rarely make it up here. Some of our recommended trips are only known by a few locals so you really feel like you are adventuring and discovering some spectacular scenes. You will find friendly locals who are happy to welcome you and have a chat. Wander the 300 metres past the Rum Shops, fishing boats and kayak/paddle-board hire until you reach the sandy beach. Relax, watch the Pelicans and swim or snorkel out to one of the 2 reefs in the bay. These reefs are known to be 2 of the best on the island and the great thing is you will very rarely come across other tourists. Interaction with GuestsApart from Andy and I we have an amazing local team of 3 Dominicans who will be looking after you. Son our neighbour is the key holder and a wonderful knowledgeable 74 year old local character. Caso is the local guide and looks after the properties and gardens. Christine is the housekeeper. They are all delightful and well worth chatting to.
