nestled amongst the pines and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, on the high road to Taos, lies the village of Truchas. The Village was founded in the year 1754 by the King of Spain who granted land to several families (of which many still remain). There are numerous artisans that live and work in the village. Weavers, potters, sculptors, painters, wood carvers, furniture makers, contemporary and traditional. We have many galleries and open studios for you to explore. I have two bedrooms each with wireless internet, the larger of the two has a kiva fireplace and a wood burning stove. Both rooms have a flat screen TV. A small library with internet access (where I serve coffee, tea, fresh juice and homemade biscuits and jams) also has a wood burning stove for those chilly winter mornings. Down comforters and pillows are in both rooms. A shared bathroom with new mexican tiles around the shower and sink areas. We do not offer kitchen facilities, there is a refrigerator, microwave and an outdoor barbecue for your use. Restaurants are within a ten to twenty minute drive. Pets allowed (if agreeable with my pets) Laundry facilities are available. Hiking and Biking out the front door. And for those who fish, ski, golf or horse back ride, you can find all of that and much more within a twenty mile range. Santa Fe is 45 minutes south, Ojo Caliente Hot Springs 45 minutes West and Taos one hour north. If you are a writer, an artist or someone who just enjoys the clean mountain air and the beauty that surrounds you, you will find paradise in our home and the magic of Truchas and Northern New Mexico. Truchas Peaks Place, located on the High Road to Taos, and nestled at the foot of the Truchas Peaks Mountains, is 45 minutes from either Santa Fe or Taos. Create your own private reprieve from traffic, congestion, crowds. Find your connection to the natural world through the serenade of birds by morning or the croak of frogs by evening. Be open to the surprise of a sudden rain shower or snow fall that unexpectedly makes way for pure clear blue skies to break through. Just around the corner, you find the village of Truchas, settled in 1754 and still maintaining the link to its Hispanic heritage. Spanish is often spoken and the buildings are still constructed of adobe. There is a flourishing art community with numerous art galleries exhibiting contemporary art as well as regional arts, weaving and woodcraft. Truchas Peaks Place provides a leisurely atmosphere, where you can use the space to structure your own getaway, making day trips to the attractions of Northern New Mexico or finding comfort in relaxing within a restful, rural setting. The SpaceI'm a retired teacher from the area and would love to welcome you to my home! It's a beautiful spot tucked away in the valley off the main road where it's amazingly quite (except for the occasional cow). We just put in a great new wood stove, well, refurbished but looks good as new! I'll make sure there's plenty of wood to accommodate for any temperature changes. I also want to offer to cook breakfast for guests, as it is about a 12 mile round trip drive to the nearest restaurant. Hope to have you stay! Guest AccessThere are lots of things to do in all directions! Taos is about 45 min to the north and Santa Fe about an hour to the south. Which also means SKIING in all directions! Ski Santa Fe, Taos and Sipapu are all close by and wonderful spots to catch what New Mexico has to offer as far as slopes :) Other great stops and plenty relaxing are the Ojo Caliente Hot Springs and a few other hot springs near Taos! Plenty to do in all directions for a fun packed day and then best of all is to come back to the quiet and peacefulness of the Ojo Sarco Valley to unwind! Hope to see you here! Interaction with GuestsI'd love to offer to cook breakfast for folks since it's a little drive to the nearest restaurant. I can accommodate for most food allergies/habits :) Fresh local eggs are always plentiful! The NeighborhoodBeautiful sunsets and sunrises and the peacefulness of being surrounded by NM beauty! Getting AroundThe roads are well maintained even through the winter.
