It is in the countryside but within easy reach of all facilities: trains to London, flights to Europe and the ancient capital city of Winchester. The most striking thing about Twyford is the range of walks through the famous Itchen Water Meadows and through the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park. The other unique thing about the village is the range of facilities it offers. Hampshire's number one gastropub, the Bugle, is a two minute walk from Rosemont, and there is another good pub, the Phoenix, just over the road. Twyford Post Office Stores is a wonderful shop selling just about anything you could need, and incorporated in the shop is Bean Below, a renowned and cosy café that provides hearty breakfasts and lunches. Winchester is a beautiful and ancient city with its world-famous cathedral and Christmas market. Less than two miles from Twyford is the renowned Marwell Zoological Park. Getting AroundShawford train station is a ten-minute walk from Rosemont. From here, there are frequent trains to central London in just over an hour. Buses run from Winchester and Eastleigh through Twyford. Twyford is one mile from the M3 motorway which connects London and the south coast. The A34 and the A 303 from the Midlands and the South West connect with the M3 in Winchester. Twyford is a 15 minute drive from Southampton Airport. Other Things to NoteThere are no parking restrictions in Finches Lane, so no parking problems. We have a large garden with a cabin with a table tennis table. There are also other bedrooms in the house available to be used on request. Anyone with an allergy or aversion to cats should not visit, as we have a friendly cat who lives in the house. BREAKFAST: We are happy to provide cereals, milk and hot drinks for breakfast, but highly recommend going over the road (1 minute's walk) to Bean Below, the café that provides full English breakfasts and much more. Guests staying with us are entitled to a 10 percent discount at Bean Below.

The SpaceThe unique experience of staying in a cottage dating from 1450, but with all the modern comforts of 2016. You can walk from the cottage along the river all the way to Winchester - takes about an hour but a lovely walk, there are also more lovely walks up onto the South Downs Way. The cottage has a secluded very sunny garden with a terrace and bar b q for al fresco dining in the summer as well as a charming garden room for peace and quiet to retreat to. There are 2 pubs in the village, one of which The Bugle Inn is the top rated restaurant in Winchester. There is an excellent shop open every day. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the same village so can be on hand in case of any problems. The NeighborhoodFriendly and quiet, full of old historic houses. The village is only 3 miles from Winchester (5 minutes by car) but has an excellent shop, cafe, and pubs. Getting AroundBus and train public transport Other Things to NoteCottage is very popular with tourists, but also with more local guests who may need accommodation for extra family members visiting, people between houses, or having work done on their homes, business people who prefer a home from home to a hotel experience.

    Dating from around 1450, Embessy Cottage is believed to be the oldest cottage in Twyford, Winchester Heavily beamed and filled with character and charm, the cottage is comfortably furnished, and enjoys a peaceful setting with a sheltered south facing garden. It is located on a quiet side road in a timeless street scene of Georgian and older period cottages. The cottage is easily accessed by public transport with train station 5 minutes walk away and bus stop at the end of the road. Southampton airport is just 10 minutes drive away. There is off street parking provided in the driveway. This cosy holiday cottage is great for a romantic break for a couple, we have had honeymoon couples staying, or a base for a family holiday with ample space for a family of 4 and a safe contained garden for children to play.

      Dating from the late 1800's and recently renovated The Down House Cottage nestles in the leafy village of Shawford, right on the edge of the National South Downs Park. Less than 3 miles from the historic heart of Winchester. The river Itchen flows through the village and it is possible to follow it's path right to the High Street within 45 minutes. The Down House Cottage, which adjoins our family home, has a private entrance leading you directly into a small kitchen equipped for light catering and complete with cooker, fridge, washing machine. There is a cosy sitting room with large log burner (which is double-sided so also heats the kitchen), plus a dining area over-looking the mature garden. The sitting room has a flatscreen TV plus DVD player. There is free Wi-Fi. Upstairs the bathroom features a large, walk-in shower. The dual aspect bedroom has a king-size bed. There is a small outside courtyard area perfect for al fresco breakfasts. Shawford has superb connections with it's own mainline railway station (Winchester 4 mins, London 65 mins, South Coast approx 30 mins). There is a local pub offering traditional 'pub-grub' and with a good beer garden, in the adjoining village of Twyford there is the acclaimed Bugle - voted the best restaurant in Winchester. The Down House Cottage is attached to our family home, it has it's own separate, private entrance. Our family has two friendly Labradors plus a cat and is a non-smoking premises.

      The SpaceOnce inside our traditionally built shepherd's hut you'll feel you're in a boutique hotel. The dining area transforms to a 6ftx5ft bed with feather duvet and Egyptian cotton linen. Smart shower room features a large shower, basin with storage cupboard and WC. Kitchen facilities include china, pans, cutlery, wine glasses and even a teapot with cosy. The double induction hob is easy to use, and there's a Smeg combi oven with grill. Waiting in the kitchen will be free-range eggs from the field next door (you'll see the chickens that laid them, and the two llamas they live with), bacon, bread, and homemade granola. There's a toaster, kettle and Nespresso machine, with tea, coffee pods, milk and sugar. Snug and warm inside, the hut is made to a design shepherds of old would recognise, complete with traditional wool insulation. Contemporary comforts include double-glazed windows, a blown-air heating system, and a TV you can watch from the comfort of bed / dining area. Guest AccessEnjoy a drink on your private deck - there's brazier and barbecue plus charcoal, firewood and kindling. Guests are welcome to explore the owner's large garden, have a swim in the outdoor pool (mid May to early September), and play on the tennis court (let us know if you'd like to borrow racquets and balls). The old orchard, where The Little Fox Hut is located, is completely your own, and has parking for up to two cars. Interaction with GuestsWe're very happy to help with anything from information on local restaurants, walks and attractions, to an Aspirin for a sore head or a plaster! However, we completely respect guests' privacy. Just send us a text, email or knock on the door if there is anything you need. The NeighborhoodWe're less than three miles from Winchester, in the heart of the South Downs National Park with its glorious walks and scenery. Take your pick from the incredible number of gourmet restaurants available in Winchester, or explore closer to home or further afield in a cosy pub or bistro. Southampton is 20 minutes away by car, the New Forest less than half an hour. Getting AroundWe provide parking for up to two cars next to The Little Fox Hut, and lots more parking is available if you need it. A taxi from Winchester costs around £10. There is a bus, but it's very infrequent. You can walk to Winchester across the fields. With a little notice we're happy to drop you off in Winchester. Direct trains from London Waterloo take from 57 minutes. Other Things to NoteWe have two dogs, a Jack Russell and a Labrador. They are friendly, and might say hello, but they know that The Little Fox Hut is not their domain! We also have four young children (also friendly!). A flock of chickens live in the field next door - we'll make sure some of their eggs are in your breakfast pack - and they live alongside two cute, and surprisingly large, llama.

      The SpaceBourne Cottage is on a secluded lane on the edge of the village of Twyford. It looks out over open fields and has a large garden. There is a trampoline and 'zip wire' for the children as well as a fire pit and BBQ. There is also a kitchen garden and polytunnel and guests are welcome to pick fresh veg in season. The house is bright and airy with an open fire in the sitting room and a large family kitchen with a table big enough for 10 people. The bathrooms are recently modernised with power showers and a bath in each. We also have a cinema room with a Playstation. Guest AccessGuests will be allowed to use all parts of the property with the exception of the garage. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available on phone or email and will also provide somebody locally to help with an problems. The NeighborhoodTwyford has the award-wining Bugle Inn which does fantastic food. Historic Winchester is less than 3 miles away with a wide selection of pubs and restaurants and a wonderful food market. Twyford in in the Itchen valley and there is wonderful river swimming on Compton Lock, a ten minute walk from the house. We are on the edge of the South Downs and there are lots of country walks to choose from. The South Downs has lots of lovely country towns and villages like Arlesford, Bishop's Waltham and Cheriton all within easy reach. The New Forest is only half an hour away and there are fantastic beaches within 40 minutes. Local sports include fly fishing, sailing, golf and mountain biking. Getting AroundShawford Station is a 5 minute drive with direct trains to London and also to the coast. Twyford is well connected with the M3 and A34 very close by.

      The SpaceThe origins of The Old Malt House date back to the 1500s. The malt house itself is now is now a sitting room with a 2 storey vaulted ceiling and log burner. The garden is walled and classically English, with a rose bed and lavender walkway. The garden is large and very private - a great environment for children and adults to relax outdoors. Interaction with GuestsWe will not be on site when you arrive, but will contact you with instructions about how to get the house keys. You can call us at any point if you have any questions or if you can't get hold of us and it's urgent, some neighbours will be able to help. The NeighborhoodThe village of Twyford is very special, both because of its friendly community and the beautiful surrounding countryside. There are great walks along the chalk streams and right into Winchester. Winchester is one of England's most historic cities and you will find many excellent activities for all the family, as well an enormous selection of great restaurants and boutique shops. Getting AroundThe nearest train station is 10 minutes walk away in the neighbouring village of Shawford, taking you northwest in 5 minutes to Winchester and just over an hour to London, north to Oxford in just over an hour and south to the New Forest and South Coast. There's also a frequent bus service from just outside the post office into Winchester. You can even hire one of our family cars for longer stays through Easycar Club. Other Things to NoteGuests can also use any of the 5 bicycles in our shed, the trampoline & swings and any of the toys in the 'toy shed' e.g. Badminton, paddling pool, surf boards, sledges, tennis rackets, rounders etc.

      The SpaceThe Shepherd hut offers beautiful views but as importantly complete tranquillity and a place to 'unwind' and simply sit back and enjoy the stunning views, sunsets and stars that illuminate the sky each night.The private woods next to the Shepherd's hut has an access path to the bridle way that offers the the connection to the South Down trails with over a 100 miles of walks. There are old railway lines have been converted to trails such at the Centurion Way or Meon Valley Trail. Food routes connect country pubs and afternoon tea rooms. Alternatively 5 minutes and you can be in the heart of Winchester, voted the best place to live in Britain and which is endorsed in history. Visit the beautiful Cathedral or a trip to see the King Arthur's round table. Close links also to the M27 where you can visit the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard or simply spend a day in the New Forest. There is so much to explore in this lovely part of England. The hut offers basic camping facilities with a separate toilet in a private shed.         A cosy, Victorian cottage, recently renovated, nestling within the South Downs. Sleeps 2/3. King size bed. Bathroom with large, walk-in shower. Private sitting room with flat screen TV & DVD player, log burning stove (kindling and logs available to buy at either of the two local stores) and dining area over-looking mature garden. Small kitchen equipped for light catering. Washing machine. Wi-fi. Ample, secure off road parking. Small outside courtyard perfect for breakfast. Beautiful walks along the River Itchen or on the South Downs on the doorstep. Shawford has it's own station making for easy day trips to London (approx. 65 mins) or the New Forest/South Coast (approx. 40 mins). Winchester, the ancient capital, is less than three miles away, - a four minute train ride - there you will find acclaimed restaurants (Rick Steins, River Cottage), plenty of old, historic pubs, pavement cafes, a buzzing High Street, live theatre..... alternatively stroll through the pretty back streets behind the magnificent Norman Cathedral to find Jane Austen's house and the Bishop's old Palace. If you enjoy walking, Winchester can be reached in around 40 minutes by following the path of the River Itchen which flows through the centre of Shawford. Shawford village has a local pub which serves good 'pub grub' and has a large beer garden. There is also a great artisan bakery/café which sells wonderful home made strudels and pastries. The Down House Cottage is attached to our family home, it has it's own separate, private entrance. Our family has two friendly labradors plus a cat. It is a non-smoking premises.
