Just a two hour drive from Portland, this great Lake Front home is a wonderful place to spend time with your family and friends. The house has an open floor plan with a wall of south facing windows offering wonderful views of the large deck, the big front yard, the lake and beautiful sunrises. The living area has a lot of comfortable furniture, TV with direct TV and a 200 disk CD player with an eclectic mix of about 150 CDs and both indoor and outdoor speakers. The kitchen has new appliances, plenty of counter space and is equipped with a very large variety of pots and pans, dishes, cookware, BBQ gadgets, utensils and so much more. The master bedroom has a deluxe king size pillow top bed. The second bedroom has two full size beds. Part of the garage is set up as a detached dorm room with twin bunk beds, a twin bed and two couches, this makes a great place for kids to hang out. Perfect Place to Make Memories: My family and I, spent almost every weekend and school break at The Lake House. We have a lot of fun memories of times spent with family and friends. Every year we had Memorial Day weekend and 4th of July barbecues, and a girls only weekend every June, when the girls and I would lay in the sun all day drinking blender drinks and then spend the evenings playing games and eating chocolate. At Christmas we would head out to the National Forest in search of the perfect Christmas Tree to fit the 12 foot vaulted ceiling and spend the days baking everyone's favorite Christmas treats which filled the house with the wonderful smells of a fresh cut tree and cookies. So just bring your food, clothes and toys: Our home has everything you will need for a great weekend getaway or a longer vacation retreat. When we moved from Pine Hollow to the Caribbean, we had to leave everything behind, so the house is extremely well stocked. My husband is a BBQ enthusiast and I enjoyed baking, so you will find specialty equipment and a lot of supplies on hand. We also did a lot of entertaining so the house is equipped with large serving platters and bowls and plenty of glasses including wine glasses, margarita glasses, shot glasses and plastic outdoor glasses. Also available for our guests use are air mattresses, life jackets and four lounge chairs for enjoying the sun in the yard or floating on the lake. The local businesses and groups offer some yearly events including Adult and Children's Fishing Derbies, Lawn Mower Races, Wasco County Fair with evening rodeos and a Sunday afternoon demolition derby, Garage sales (especially on Memorial Day weekend), Pancake breakfasts, VFW Barbecues, Barlow Trail Rendezvous Days and more Our home is located right on Pine Hollow Reservoir. The yard has 102 feet of lake frontage and a seasonal dock for parking your boat and other water toys. So much to do!: Pine Hollow reservoir offers a lot of recreational activities. There is great fishing in the reservoir we called it catching because it was a rare day we didn't bring in at least a trout or two and usually a whole stringer full. Fishing is allowed on the lake year round and the lake is kept well stocked. In the summer from July 1st to Labor Day the speed limit is lifted and it is time to pull out the wave runners, skis, wake boards and tubes and as my husband said troll the kids around the lake. If you don't have your own toys, wave runners, fishing boats and a party barge are available for rent at the nearby Pine Hollow Lakeside Resort. Maupin and the Deschutes river are only a 20 minutes drive away for world class fly fishing and white water rafting. If you enjoy hiking or biking the Mt Hood National forest is just a few miles away. Historical places nearby include Shaniko and the Barlow trail.

The SpaceThe home has great views from the living room and the deck. Sometimes we throw open the sliding doors in the living room and feel like we are outside. There are two card tables (one upstairs and one down). There are some games included in the kitchen Island. My kids play there and you will see toys in various places which you can play with too. Locked up high on the wall is a 1944 WWII Mosin Nagant Russian Infantry rifle with some history on the factory that built it. There are several chairs, tables and stools upstairs and down. Guest AccessThe home is all access except for some closets and a shed (for personal things that are kept locked) . Stephanie, our house keeper who lives and works locally can meet you, or I can give you a code for the key-lock-box. There is a chain across the bottom of the driveway but that is not locked and can be un-linked during your stay. Interaction with GuestsI will be available via email or phone. The local house keeper can also be reached and her phone number will be provided. The NeighborhoodThere are great restaurants nearby including the Riverside and the Imperial. Henry's has a great breakfast. The neighborhood is very quiet, so no loud parties or loud noises after 10PM. Getting AroundIt takes less than two hours to arrive at the house from downtown Portland and the drive getting there is spectacular. If you like to walk, everything is within a mile, including the river. Other Things to NoteNo WIFI or cable TV but the media room has a big TV and theater sound system built into the walls. Includes Blu Ray player. There are some DVD's already there - fishing movies and Star Wars. I get decent cellular reception there with Verizon. No A/C but the home is very well insulated. We keep it cool by opening the windows at night and closing them in the morning. My favorite thing to do is to sit up on the deck and watch the birds. You'll see Osprey and they frequently catch drafts up past the deck. Bring your binoculars! There is food, sauces, etc in the pantry and the fridge. Feel free to use whatever you want, and please leave some behind for the next person.

The SpaceThis home is filled with art, has a fully equipped cooks kitchen and is my home away from home. I prefer to rent to adult groups - older kids are fine. It's a very calming place to hang out, or use as a base to explore the surrounding area. There are two bedrooms on the main floor and two in the basement. There is a tv, but no cable, so bring DVDs! There is a small collection there too. Within a few blocks you'll find The Rainbow tavern, Deschutes Angler - where Amy & John will happily assist in your fishing needs; RiverDrifters - where Tim will set you up with the best guides for some epic rafting; and Stan in the hardware store for everything else. The SpaceMaupin is a small community on a high bend of the Deschutes river, which is one of the best trout/steelhead rivers in the world. The cold waters flow through a high desert which receives about 10" of rainfall a year. In contrast to Portland just a couple hours away, Maupin is sunny most of the year and the air is dry; fragrant with the scent of juniper and sage brush. This house predates the great fire that destroyed most of Maupin in 1922. We know because during our extensive renovation we discovered newspapers used as insulation that dated 1919. There are early photos of the community that show what must have been this one or two room frontier shelter, probably used by the early forest service or loggers. It is right on the main street in town, ideally located near the park, library, grocery store, hardware store, and Rainbow Tavern! (a Maupin institution) We've installed new hardwood floors, a new tile bathroom, new appliances (french door fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer stack) and we've also installed a brand new propane fireplace for toasty convenient heat. For convenience in work and play, I have installed high speed wireless internet to feed Netflix and HULU on a new LG tv. A work desk and Aeron chair is handy to the stove for getting some work done in between the morning and evening bite. Our covered front porch swing is the best place in town to comfortably watch old cars, bike races, and an assortment of other destination rallies. Or relax in the fresh air and read a book. The moon rises across the street in the summer and there is a swift colony in the chimney of the Tudor house you may see if you're lucky enough to be present at the right time. We also have recently finished a beautiful grotto out back with comfy chairs, a fire pit (seasonal ban), and grill. We string a sun shade in the summer. We planted a living fossil in front! Thought extinct for millions of years, Dawn Redwood dates back to Mesozoic times, some 150 million years ago. Living Dawn Redwoods were "discovered" in West Central China in 1941. Unlike its Redwood Family relatives, Dawn Redwood is a deciduous tree, losing its bronze leaves each autumn and unfurling bright green, silky new needles in spring. A truly unique and fascinating tree, rich in history and beautiful to behold. Dawn Redwood grows very rapidly, easily reaching heights of more than 100 feet at maturity. Say hello to our metasequoia. Guest AccessThis is a whole house rental. There is street parking in front and off street in back of the house. Entry is through a key-code front door lock. Since we are right downtown in a small community, we encourage all guests to be respectfully quiet and low-key. Interaction with GuestsEverything the Maupin area has to offer is at your fingertips. There is a fly fishing shop a block down the road and numerous shuttle and raft rental companies. If you have additional questions please ask. The NeighborhoodWe have completely remodeled and restored this house as a cozy sanctuary, paying tribute to it's past and upgrading with modern comfort conveniences like memory foam mattresses, wifi, and a new dishwasher. The environment is conducive to both focused work (if you're able to telecommute) and general relaxation (fishing and nature). Getting AroundYou can walk to everything in Maupin conveniently, including a couple good fishing holes on the Deschutes. The Maupin Market is across the street with the gas station, hardware store, and Rainbow Tavern. The fly shop, library, and city park are on our side of the street. The Imperial Hotel and restaurant are a 15 minute walk down the hill to the riverside. Easy. Other Things to NoteTop entertainment options in the area include fly fishing or spin fishing, white water rafting, drift boat fishing, hiking, hunting, and generally enjoying the sunshine and warmth of this quiet high desert location. There are frequent small town summer festivals, and in the fall the local high school team promotes 'Redsides' football games, which are entertaining.
