The SpaceOur cleverly restored eco-hut is well-insulated and spacious, sleeping up to nine people in a comfortable design that minimises your carbon footprint. It has been crafted from recycled timber and fittings with off-grid solar power, a slow-combustion fireplace and indoor-outdoor living options to take advantage of the stunning daytime vistas and sparkling night skies.
Adventurers, bushwalkers and nature lovers will delight in the easy access to fishing spots, horseriding trails, waterfalls, swimming holes, lookouts and walking tracks in all directions. Surrounded by bush and pasture in total privacy, the hut is a short drive to town for basic supplies but far enough away to retreat and replenish in a unique, breathtaking setting.
Four sleeping spaces include a small loft with a single and queen sized mattress suitable for children, and three queen size beds downstairs. Extra guests can pitch a tent nearby the open fire pit and outdoor barbecue area with its own sink. The outside bathroom with toilet and shower has glorious views over the paddocks and fruit trees. From late spring to early autumn you can help yourselves to the peaches, nectarines, pears and plums (before the birds do).
The open-style living area can be closed off with glass doors for winter comfort and includes a kitchen with a slow-combustion stove and gas cooktop. There's no fridge (they suck a lot of power!) but you can keep fresh produce icy cold in the 125L commercial Esky – an old-fashioned ice box with plenty of storage. Ice is no longer available at the Ebor service station five minutes away, you will need to pick it up at either Dorrigo, Grafton or Armidale. If you run out you may be able to get some ice fro the Ebor motel/pub if you're lucky!
Our hybrid slow-combustion-solar power set-up means there is minimal power for gadgetry, but a single power outlet allows you to recharge small electronic devices. Telstra's 3G network provides mobile coverage.
We've supplied a stack of board games and puzzles plus cards and books, so staying here is a chance to chat fireside, play games, read and relax the old-fashioned way. Guest AccessGetting to Hernani Hut is part of your wildnerness adventure. It's accessible in a conventional two-wheel drive vehicle in dry weather, provided it has good clearance. Low-set vehicles such as sports cars are not suitable. Once you have booked you will need to EMAIL susan to receive a mud map and directions to reach the hut. You will not be able to find the hut from the address given. It's a fairly easy, well-marked 1km off-road drive from the main Road. Plan to arrive well before sunset, as the hut can be difficult to find in the dark.
Also be aware that in wet weather the access road can be slippery. As Hernani is a regional New South Wales wilderness experience the property does experience periods of heavy rain. In this circumstance you may need to use the longer all-weather 4WD drive only route or talk to us about rescheduling your stay. In four plus years of operating the Hut we have had 2 major weather events. Our extreme weather policy details are available upon booking request. Your safety is our first priority and we will always communicate clearly and quickly about any major weather considerations that may impact your stay. You will NOT be able to locate the hut from the address listed here. Its off the beaten track and due to its remote location we do not want people having directions to the hut unless they have booked and confirmed with us. We will need to EMAIL you directly the hut information and directions once you have booked to ensure you are fully aware of what to bring with you to enjoy your stay.
Please make sure to email me once you have booked in so I can send you the hut directions and info. Other Things to NoteWe keep the hut clean and stocked with firewood and there are plenty of pillows, doonas, blankets and mozzie nets. The kitchen and barbecue are fully equipped and set up for your enjoyment prior to arrival.
You will need to bring:
ICE FOR LARGE ESKY (125L) we do not run a fridge onsite due to being an off-the grid property. There is a very large commercial grade esky for use during your stay. Packed properly with ice the esky (3-4 bags) will easily keep food for more than a week, please bring your own sunscreen (summer), torches, food and supplies and equip for hiking and fishing.
Dogs and domestic pets are not permitted. Vacuum cleaning is not possible and we cannot guarantee we can stay hair-free for those who are allergic. Besides, this is cattle country and dogs could also be tempted to round up the cows!
However, horses are most welcome at Hernani. The hut is on the national horse trail so it's the perfect place to take them for a ride.
