The SpaceRecent additions - installed new floor in the kitchen, and added electric fireplaces in both the living room and the main bedroom. Two bedroom, one bath second floor non smoking apartment (up to 4 people) located in an historic home in rural Frederick County Maryland 1 hour to Baltimore, 1 ½ hours to Washington DC, ½ hour to Gettysburg PA or Frederick MD, 1 hour to Harpers Ferry WV and Sharpsburg MD. Use as a base of operations for exploring all that the area has to offer, or just relax in this comfortably decorated apartment with pastoral views of the local farms and meadows. Cable TV, wireless internet, electric fireplace in the living room, full kitchen and off street parking. This is a great area for bicycling through the rural areas of Frederick and Carroll Counties. We're located on the Maryland Historic Old Main Streets driving tour. Please look at the Guidebook link (or map tab) for restaurants, sightseeing, laundry, and other things in the area. Prospective renters with children: Please note the proximity of the bedroom window to the floor. This is a second story window with old wavey glass. Consider the safety of your children when making a reservation. It is our policy that all children and babies are considered people. Please include all people in the resevation request. There is a king bed in the larger bedroom, and a pull out futon in the smaller bedroom that makes up into a full bed. This is the TOTAL sleeping accommodations. We live out in the country, the closest grocery store is about 8 miles away. You may want to pick up necessities on your way here so you can relax from your travels when you arrive. Our pets are in a seperate part of the house, not in this apartment. Guest AccessGuests have access to the apartment, the front porch (great for early morning coffee when warm enough), and the outdoor gardens. Interaction with GuestsWe live downstairs, but respect our guest's privacy. If you want to talk, get directions, or learn about our home and the area, just catch up with us and ask. At check in we will give you a tour of the apartment and then leave you on your own. Most guests are tired from travels and want to rest. Checkout is as simple as leave the key on the kitchen table and leave the door unlocked. The NeighborhoodOur home is in a rural part of Frederick County with horse and dairy farms nearby, along with a Rodeo right down the street. There are quiet streets for walking, running or bycicling in the area. Feel free to walk around the property and enjoy the gardens. The postal address is Union Bridge, but the actual location is the community of Johnsville, about 5 miles south of Union Bridge. We are about 12 miles northeast of Frederick, and the same distance from Westminster, in a small community of with about a dozen homes. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation available in the area. Parking is available in a lot on the North side of the house. There are numerous side roads suitable for walks or bike riding. We are located on Rt. 75 which is a main road, but has a 30 MPH speed limit past our home. The apartment is in the back of the house so street noise shouldn't be a problem unless you are a very light sleeper. Other Things to NoteThis is a second floor walk up apartment. It is not handicap accessible. There is a large parking lot on the north side of the house. The parking lot is lighted for your convenience. Our home is on a well and septic system. We have had some comments on water quality. We have a whole house filter and water softener system, but the water is still hard and high in particulates. It has been tested and is safe. We provide a filter pitcher for our guests convenience.

The SpaceFirehouse Studio is a renovated firehouse featured on HGTV Program: Rezoned. The 1884 building is located in a small, rural town about 30 minutes from Gettysburg, PA and trendy Frederick, MD. It is 1 hour west Baltimore and 1.5 hours north of Washington D.C. There are 2 spaces available in this light filled artist studio and living space: 1. An open loft with a double bed. 2. A private room with a double bed. Living space is 1500 sq ft of space with 16-foot ceilings, hardwood floors and lots of artwork. The kitchen is eat in. The dining room seats 6. There are 2 bathrooms: the one with a tub is in the 2nd floor living space and the shower is located in the first floor studio. Fresh linens, towels, and standard toiletries are included. The town population is only 900+ but we feature a train museum, two restaurants, a pharmacy, bank, hair dresser, historic Quaker Meeting House and other houses of workship and of course, a volunteer fire department. A wetlands park is walking distance from the firehouse. We are always looking for visitors who might want to make this town home. The area now boasts more than 12 wineries. Award winning Elk Run Vineyard (URL HIDDEN) and organic Black Ankle Winery (URL HIDDEN) are nearby. The Maryland Wine Festival takes place every September. (URL HIDDEN) are being grown at many local farms creating at least 10 new micro breweries. Milkhouse Brewery is close to the firehouse. All venues have music and other events throughout the year. (URL HIDDEN) “Foodies” can eat at Volt (Top Chef competitor Brian Voltaggio) in Frederick (URL HIDDEN) while exploring the many shops and galleries that occupy the historic buildings along Carroll Creek. For outdoor experiences, you can hike in the Catoctin Mountains, go tubing in Harpers Ferry and bike the hills of Carroll or Frederick County. Civil War battlefields and museums are within 30 miles of the firehouse. There are also 2 studio spaces in the lower half of the firehouse. You are welcome to try your hand at clay, stone carving or painting. A photographer works in the studio some weekends. I am dog friendly but no smoking.

The NeighborhoodWe are located in a quaint small town. No traffic lights but an active volunteer fire dept. There are two small restaurants in the town and a pizza delivery. Within a few miles are at least 6 wineries and many antique shops. We are on a bike route. Fine dining is Westminster only 10 minutes from us. Getting AroundYou will need your own vehicle to get around. Other Things to NoteSmoking in designated area only. No smoking inside the house or front porch.

    The SpaceSerendipity Farm is a 129 acre property with 2 natural spring fed ponds, a tennis court, a pool, a natural creek, a pavilion, a swing set and a fire pit. We have about 20 horses on property that are available for horseback riding lessons/trails at an additional cost (which can be discussed further at booking). The horses are boarded and the barn is managed by a third-party. The pond in the front yard has a dock for fishing (pond is filled with blue gill and bass) and is available for swimming. The backyard pond is filled with coy but no fishing or swimming is allowed. We have a green egg grill on the back porch and a gas grill on the pavilion that is available for use. The pavilion is filled with picnic tables and chairs. The pool will open and available from May-August. Inside: We have 1 queen bed, 3 double beds and 1 single bed for guests. There is a bathroom located upstairs and another located on the main level. In the kitchen, we have a double oven and a stovetop for cooking/baking. The kitchen table comfortably seats 8 people. Guest AccessThe entire property is available for our guests. The NeighborhoodWalkersville is a cute and quiet little town located just 15 miles from downtown Frederick. Frederick is a wonderful city and has great restaurants and shops. In the summertime, you can go strawberry and blueberry picking (just a mile down the road). There is a Safeway 2 miles away and a Wegman's 8 miles away. Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD are only 60 miles away from the property. Please let us know if you have any other questions. We can also help our guests with babysitting services. The NeighborhoodUB Paradise is located in a rural setting on a 140-acre farm. There are a few small towns with small town shopping. Taneytown is a short distance with a few restaurants and our favorites are Tony's (Italian) and The Broken Spoke (American -Rustic bar atomosphere with entertainment on the weekends). The only delivery restaurant which has very good Pizza is No Anchovies. New Windsor is also a short distance, Uncle Matty's (American) - very good food (cheesesteak sub is amazing using Ribeye steak). The town of Union Bridge also has two hometown restaurants Italian and American. Westminster is the largest city in the area approximately a 15 minute country drive. Frederick is 30 minutes and has a great downtown shopping and several unique restaurants. Getting AroundMike is an Uber and Lyft driver and he can chauffeur 4 guests in our BMW X5. Other Things to NoteOur guests love the privacy, view, and quiet surroundings. There is a basketball net, corn hole, and firepit for relaxing outside and roasting smores. We provide smores roasting sticks.
