The SpaceWe live in an 8,000 sq. ft. restored historic Greek Revival home, called Hawthorne Heights. Our home has been featured in many magazines, we have had a movie made here, and our home is also on a Drive By Tour. We offer 6 bedrooms with a very nice environment for guests, with rooms much larger than hotel rooms. Overnight and extended stay visitors are welcome and our rooms have every comfort, including down comforters, feather and regular pillows, a TV, and WiFi. Two of the guest rooms are adjoining rooms to accommodate larger families & close friends.
Hawthorne Heights is in a quite neighborhood in a very small town with churches within blocks of each other behind us. We also have a museum, a florist, a Dollar General, a grocery, a Pawn Shop, our antique store, a bakery, a Sports Store, a doctor, a Pharmacy, a resturant, a bank and gas stations to accommodate your immediate needs. There is also shopping, restaurants, grocery, antique shops, gift shops and fast food conveniently located within a few short miles. We are located halfway between Augusta and Atlanta just six miles North of I-20.
Our home was built in 1848; before the civil war, and we have restored it back to it's original grandeur and furnished it with many period antiques. It was built and occupied by Judge Samuel L. Hart and his family and heirs until we purchased it in December of 2003. We have been restoring it since then and it will alway be a work in progress for the two of us because of it's size and age. Please come and enjoy a small piece of the past with us, and sense the glory and ambiance of a time gone by; the wonderful Victorian Era. Guest AccessWhen booking our 8,000 sq. ft. home you would have access to all 22 rooms except our den/bedroom on the first floor. We will remain on the property at all times since this is our only place of residence. We also want to be available to help, assist, and accommodate you in every way we can. You can use the kitchen & there is a small refrigerator filled with bottled water & another microwave in the second floor hallway. We provide internet access, free long distance on land line phones, iron & ironing board & most anything you might need. Interaction with GuestsWe are always here for your questions, concerns, or to help in any way. We want to respect your privacy, but would love to visit with you if you have the time. The NeighborhoodOur home is in a small, quiet town & one of the many reasons we love living here. Hawthorne Heights sits on three acres right across fom downtown. Getting AroundThere is no transit system here, but we are across the street from our down town and you can walk there in a few minutes. Other Things to NoteOur home is full of history. We love sharing the photos of the home as it was built as an English Raised Cottage in 1848, & when it was remodeled into a 3 story Greek Revival in 1900. We purchased the home in Dec. 2003, after it sat vacant for several years. We are the first to live here since the original family & their descendants. We have spent the last 10 years restoring it back to its original splendor on the inside, with all before and after photos, and now we will begin on the outside of our beautiful grand old lady.
