The SpaceFilmed as one of the “World’s Most Extreme Homes”, The Mudcastle is situated in the beautiful rolling countryside of Upper Moutere, Nelson and is created from the clay beneath us. If you are looking for a place to stay that is memorable and inspirational, we invite you to experience one of the three suites we offer together with the other 5 rooms. The Peach Suite is a sumptuously decorated Queen suite of adobe construction with private entrance, balcony, romantic outdoor bath surrounded by fairylights and private swimming pool that spills down to a larger pool some distance below. The Gold Turret is also a Queen suite situated in a two storey fairytale turret overlooking the medieval orchard, private and self-contained with opulent furnishings and extravagant bathroom. The Rose Suite is a King suite situated upstairs, luxuriously spacious with double wardrobes, relaxing pastoral views from all windows and internal wooden shutters for additional cosiness. We intend stays at The Mudcastle to be peaceful and relaxing with as much or as little interaction with us as you wish. Our suites have bathrobes and slippers.

The SpaceSet in the Moutere on our 3 ha lifestyle block, you will stay in our Old Hop Kiln appartment, which has a full country kitchen with all the modern conveniences (dishwasher, microwave). There is also a great lounge with TV, DVD-Player, CD-player and an extra single bed. The master bedroom features a king bed (2 singles connected), desk, wardrobe and seating and has a deck with wonderful views. Includes shared wireless broadband. The sunny Studio verandah opens onto a private lawn and delightful decked area overlooking the koi pond, an ideal spot for a romantic cup of coffee or glass of wine. Studio guests enjoy access to the Woolshed’s communal courtyard, outdoor entertaining area, chef’s kitchen and cosy lounge with log fire and television. It is not often that guests need to share these facilities unless they are part of group booking. If you particularly wish to book a Studio all to yourself/ves, let us know.       The SpaceThe apartment was recently completed, totally self contained and privately positioned over garaging to the front of the property. There are wall panel heaters located in the bedroom and lounge and underfloor heating in the bathroom. Guest AccessGuests access the apartment entrance via a door and staircase which is a totally separate from the main house however the entrance, stairs and laundry is occasionally shared with guests using additional tourist accommodation. There is a private doorway into the apartment which is fully self contained. Interaction with GuestsThe owners of the main house will be available to help with any problems of offer advice if needed. However please be assured that your privacy will be fully respected. The NeighborhoodUpper Moutere has a local store, takeaway, petrol station, church, coffee shop, excellent wineries and local art galleries. The majority of the above are located an easy walk from the apartment. Getting AroundGuests staying in the apartment will need a car to travel around the area. By car, Nelson City is approximately 30 minutes, Richmond and Motueka 15 minutes, Abel Tasman 35 minutes, Mapua, Rabbit Island 10 minutes.

It is sparse on Furniture save for New comfy Beds - plenty of room to fix your bike and play games with the kids - who love the creek - Supervision required. It has wood floors is lined with white walls and is built of timber milled from the property and local region. This region is full of boutique events supporting people who produce a huge variety of products - wine - fruit - food - art - music - and more....The lovely Neudorf Valley is in the rolling hills of the Moutere region and in its past were many hop and tobacco gardens and for all that has not changed though the produce has. Within the Valley there are Olives, Cheese, Mushrooms, Stawberries, Raspberries and Boysenberries as well as Forestry, Sheep and Cattle. The property has hosted many visitors over the year/ those who worked in the gardens and those who enjoy the arts from all over NZ and abroad. The Nelson weather is conducive to many outdoor activities and sports. Check out the Trout Fishing in the Lakes and Rivers, Fish from the beaches anywhere or buy locally caught in town. Numerous restaurants serve the fish that Nelson is renowned for. Climb or Mountain Bike the high points such as climbing Mt Arthur to walk The Cobb Tablelands and bike the many trails around the forests and shores. Take a drive over the Takaka Hill to Golden Bay through Collingwood to Farewell Spit or Through Motupipi to Tata Beach and beyond to the Awaroa Inlet. Drive To Motueka (15mins)Kaiteriteri or Marehau - catch Able Tasman Explorer to any of the Beaches along the coast for coast walks and picnics - or take a kayak day trip or longer into the Able Tasman from Marahau. Drive to Mapua (10 mins) shop in boutique stores and cross over on the ferry to cycle the Rabbit Island Cycle trail. Richmond 20mins Nelson 35 mins Special conditions: Not suitable for small children - suitable older primary age who would enjoy it...there is a small creek bounding one side and here can be found small eels and small Freshwater fish if you really look hard. May rise when raining. The entrance and fences are not closeable so children need to be watched/given guidelines. Kids love to play in large trees near small creek at one end of the property/with guidelines - roving the surrounding farmland is not acceptible. Nor are dogs for this reason.           This well appointed newly listed apartment is situated in a 'no through road' in the picturesque village of Upper Moutere. It's location provides a countryside 'getting away from it all' experience but has the convenience of local facilities within easy walking distance including a dairy, pub, wineries and cafes. Located mid way between Nelson City and the Abel Tasman; approximately 30 minutes to both by car and 15 minutes to Richmond, Motueka, Rabbit Island and Mapua / Ruby Bay. Nelson has so many beautiful tourist spots, wonderful beaches, great walking tracks through National Parks, excellent cycle pathways and enjoys one of New Zealand's sunniest climates. There is a single or double kayak and life jackets that guests are welcome to borrow however they must have a vehicle with roof rack. The apartment is self contained situated on the first floor so is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair access or anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs. It has a separate entrance and positioned over garaging so your privacy is assured however the owners are happy to help if you need anything. Special conditions: No Smoking, allowed outside only.             Kindeli is located in rolling country and has been planted with thousands of trees, native and forestry. The accommodation is situated on the top of the winery overlooking the vineyards. There is a store, post office and historical pub about four minutes away by car and there is another winery next door which has lunches 7 days a week in summer and dinners on Friday nights (three minutes walk from our accommodation). The property is the home of Don and Kindeli wines, they are made by our son who makes natural and organic wines, tastings and tours of the winery can be arranged. There are also a small herd of breeding cows (who have names) at Kindeli and a Cairn terrier called Dougal.             Situated half way between Nelson city and the Abel Tasman National Park, Upper Moutere is an area close to dozens of memorable/relaxing/challenging things to do with beautiful beaches, wineries, restaurants and cafes, fly fishing, talented artisans and so much more. Walking distance from the cottage itself is Western Pleasure Horse Trekking as well as the Blackbird Valley Forge - a place where you can, by arrangement, make your own kitchen or hunting knife. Within five to eight minutes away is the Neudorf Sheep Dairy, The beautiful Neudorf Vineyard as well as the picturesque Upper Moutere Village with its general store/cafe, New Zealand's oldest pub and the old Post Office which now show cases goods make by local artisans. The cottage is well insulated with an HRV system - so clean air, even temperatures and no foggy windows. There is a selection of games and dvds for your use. There are gas hobs and a generous bench top oven that is big enough to cook almost anything. Wi Fi available in the cottage. The owners, who live in the straw bale house next door, milk house cows and goats and have a passion for cheese making and the self sufficient lifestyle. You can be involved with these activities as much or as little as you like. This is the perfect place to get stuck into all that this region as to offer or to simply chill out and relax with a glass of local wine.
