The SpaceThe Hunt Country Cottage is located in the heart of Upperville Virginia, home to the nation’s oldest and most prestigious horse show. We bought the home as a getaway second home in 2005 and have spent the past year restoring and decorating the hunt box with loving care. The home has a standing seam metal roof, clapboard style siding, a stone foundation, cozy front porch and second floor dormer windows. The interior is painted with warm colors and accented by antique oak barn wood paneling and trim in the family room. The flooring is the original antique heart pine. The cottage is decorated as a traditional English Hunt Box, with equine art and memorabilia, lovely antiques, warm carpets on the heart pine floors, and high-end bed linens. Enjoy the outdoors from covered porches front and rear. Relax in the comfort of a fully-equipped modern house with a touch of our English heritage. The back yard is accented by a small stream where neighborhood song birds and hawks visit frequently. Enjoy fine dining and an old English pub across the street at the Hunter’s Head Tavern, a favorite destination for locals and visitors. The village of Upperville is peaceful, quiet, and friendly. Broad sidewalks make for an easy stroll through town or visit to the local shops. Sky meadows state park is a 10 minute drive to the west. The park provides regular events, hiking trails, camp sites, a stocked fishing pond, and access to the Appalachian Trail. Drive a little farther and enjoy nature's harvest at Stribling and Hartland Orchards. Our home is perfectly situated for equestrian activities. We are within 10 minutes of world class stables, polo fields, and steeple chase grounds. We also enjoy the convenience numerous wineries, excellent restaurants, Olde English pubs, and exquisite shops. The cottage is conveniently located 6 miles west of Middleburg, 50 miles West of DC, 5 miles from Sky Meadows State Park. A short 10-15 minute drive east or west takes you to a multitide of fine establishments. Located to the west are the Blackthorne Inn and Ashby Inn. To the east is Middleburg with the Fox’s Den, Julien’s, the Red Fox Inn, and the French Hound to name but a few. This property is a wonderful weekend getaway from the stresses of city life with access to the Shenandoah river a few miles away, scenic byways and picturesque hikes on the Blue Ridge mountains. World class dining only minutes away, the local watering hole is rife with locals sharing folklore and history of the surrounding areas. Civil war battle fields abound and history buffs will love learning about the local history. Queen bed and double bed in rooms along with a pull-out couch in the larger bedroom. Jacuzzi tub in large bedroom, shower in smaller bedroom. Large family and dining area with kitchen for cozy evenings.

    The SpaceThe base price (up to 4 guests) includes access to 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, and the extra-large great room/living room. When you pay any "additional guest fees" (for more than 4 guests), you get access to additional adult bedrooms with one additional bathroom or access to a children's bedroom with crib and toddler bed. (The house has a total of 4 queen sized beds + 1 toddler bed + 1 crib + 1 Baby Pack N Play). Once you pay "extra guest fees" for a 5th guest, then you will get access to the extra bedrooms/bathroom that you need. Guest AccessSee the above para for explanation of how to reserve and pay for 2 bedrooms or additional bedrooms. (Base price includes 2 br/2 bath, pay additional $50 per person after 4th person and get additional adult or kids' bedrooms). When you arrive at the house, all guests will find a lock box on the front door handle with keys to the front door, which will give you access to the first floor bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, great room/living room, and one 2nd floor bedroom with bathroom. If you pay the "additional guest fees" for additional people, then we will give you the lock box code for the additional bedrooms/bathroom that you need. If you need a kids' room with crib and toddler bed, then the additional person fee will pay for that. If you need a 3rd and 4th adult bedroom, then the additional person fees will pay for those. You will use a lock box code to open the additional bedrooms that you have paid for. Interaction with GuestsWe will never be at the house when you are there, but we are available to answer you questions via telephone or text message between the hours of 9am and 10pm. The NeighborhoodThe Upperville/Middleburg area is famous for its wineries, scenic biking, hiking, and horse riding routes, and general small town/rural charm. This is a place to breath in fresh air and freedom during the day, see the stars at night, and wake up in quiet serenity with wild deer grazing outside your window. Getting AroundParking in our driveway is free and spacious. Our road and driveway are paved. Other Things to NoteLike biking, hiking, hunting or target shooting (using arrows or guns) ? For $20 per person we rent out bicycles, located in our garage behind the house. For an extra $100 per person per day (1pm to 5pm on any Saturday or Sunday, minimum of 2 people), hire hunting-licensed, expert marksman and woodsman James Wesolek (good friend of the house owner) to guide you on a hiking, hunting and/or target shooting experience! James will meet you at the house at 1pm on the day you choose, guide you to our 27 acre mountain forest property (located on Forest Hill Lane, Bluemont, VA just 10 minutes away from the house.) There you can experience a hike up into the Blue Ridge Mountains, deer hunting in Sept, Oct, Nov or December... turkey hunting, squirrel hunting, or target practice using bows/arrows or guns. James can provide the bows/arrows, guns/ammo (50 rounds included, additional fee if you require more), or you can bring your own. We have furnished The Cottage with antiques from around the globe sourced from our destination shops The Outpost in Middleburg and The Keep in Upperville. Perfect for weekend retreats and fully equipped for extended stays. Adjacent to our antiques and interiors shop The Keep, within walking distance of Hunter's Head Pub and The Local Taste Wine Bar. The two upstairs bedrooms share a bathroom with a shower/clawfoot bathtub. Living room is spacious, with a widescreen TV and turntable with LP collection. The dining room leads into the kitchen with corian countertops and electric glass-top range. Large, private backyard with teak patio furniture. The NeighborhoodOn a quiet street in the village of Upperville, which is right on the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains and five minutes' drive from Appalachian Trail. The house has woods on three sides, a neighbor on the fourth side separated by trees and yards. Village has well-known organic pub The Hunter's Head, The Blackthorne Inn, and is 10 minutes from Middleburg's antique shops, restaurants and Salamander Inn. Getting AroundThis home is about 70 minutes drive from Washington, D.C. and 40 minutes from Dulles Airport. There are park & ride options in Leesburg (25 minutes away) and the Reston Metro subway stop is 45 minutes away. If you're a cyclist, bring your bike. The country roads are perfect for biking.
