The SpaceThis is our guest room and is very suitable for an individual looking for a home away from home. Note: This room is next to the kitchen and we do have to use that room in the morning to make breakfast and get ready for work. We are not terribly early risers, but expect to hear us, the coffee grinder and the radio at about 6:30 am or 7 pm. If you are sensitive to noise, do let us know so we can grind the coffee the night before and not turn on the radio in the morning. NOTE: We are licensed to operate as a Bed & Breakfast. The rate included 6% city hotel tax and another 6% State of Illinois hotel tax. Guest AccessWifi, of course. Private bath (but it may be used by others if we have friends over), kitchen with all utensils and equipment. Feel free to use the dining room to eat your meals; and perhaps we'll have a chance to have dinner together (no obligations). Feel free to use the living room when we are not. Interaction with GuestsWe love meeting new people but are sensitive to the fact that people coming to Champaign Urbana have a busy schedule. And we are out and about quite a bit ourselves. We are not particularly chatty but do enjoy a good conversation as we mull about the kitchen. The NeighborhoodLocated in Historic Urbana, walking distance not just to the University of Illinois but also the Urbana Farmers Market, several bars and restaurants. Running or walking in Meadow Brook Park. Getting AroundThere are several bus stops for different lines within walking distance. We have a spare bike which guests are welcome to use. Other Things to NoteNote: Beginning January 15, 2016, airbnb will assess State of Illinois Hotel taxes on our behalf. We still have to pay taxes to the City of Urbana. That tax is already included in the price we offer the room at.

The SpaceWhen we still had teenagers in the house this was a much occupied media room. Now it is a comfortable retreat. We purchased a very nice bed as well as new mattresses to make sure our guests will sleep well. NOTE: The basement room is very quiet unless someone is walking around in the dining room upstairs. On weekdays we get up around 6:30-7:00 am, so for an early riser or someone who doesn't mind the sound of footsteps and shortly thereafter the coffee grinder and radio above it will be ok. Guest AccessWifi, of course. Private bath (but it may be used by other guests or when we have friends over), kitchen with all utensils and equipment. There is a fridge in this basement room. Feel free to use the dining room to eat your meals; and perhaps we'll have a chance to have dinner together (no obligations). Feel free to use the living room when we are not. On the weekend I often work at home and can be more available if needed, but also perfectly happy to ignore you if you want your privacy. The NeighborhoodThe house is in west Urbana, a very walkable neighborhood. I regularly walk, ride my bike and take the bus everywhere. Very close to University and downtown Urbana. Bus stops three/four blocks away. Getting AroundBus stop three/four blocks away. Other Things to NoteI am a female university professor. I generally work 9 to 5 making this is an ideal house for someone who would like to work, write, or study during the day. I also have two children, but they are away at school and only come home for holidays and summer. I've blocked out the times I believe the kids are away on the calendar. The downstairs bedroom is rented to a graduate student. My partner visits on the weekends. We have a very friendly and quiet Boston Terrier.

The SpaceThe space: An ideal space for someone visiting University of Illinois campus. Tidy and uncluttered, the living room doubles as an office and provides a refuge for focused study. The front door leads to a wonderful porch, great for reading in the evening. The bedroom features a very comfortable full bed and closet with plenty of storage. Full bathroom (albeit small) stocked with the basics. Excellent light in the kitchen, opening out onto the back yard. Nothing fancy here, as I am a humble PhD student, but everything you need for a comfortable stay. Guest AccessThere is one closet that I am using for storage; otherwise, the place is yours! Interaction with GuestsI am a graduate student at University of Illinois and will be out of town conducting field work. My *awesome* neighbor has agreed to provide you with house keys, things to do, and can help you get oriented. I will be available by phone, email, or message. The NeighborhoodThe apartment is on the ground floor, one of four units in a turn-of-the-century house on a tree-lined street just a few blocks from downtown Urbana. The neighbors are friendly and generally quiet; you may run into them gardening and chatting in the back yard. There are several grocery stores in the area, including Common Ground Food Co-op, Schnucks, and Save-A-Lot. Good coffee at Flying Machine, craft beer at Crane Alley and a number of restaurants, all about 5 minutes away on foot. The nearest laundromat is Courtesy Cleaners, 0.6 miles away by car or about 10 minutes by bus. Getting AroundFree off-street parking is available behind the house. The Lincoln Square bus terminal is a few blocks away and can connect you with most bus lines. Champaign-Urbana public transit has an amazing level of service; you should be able to get to most places on campus, or even to downtown Champaign, within 10-20 minutes. The eastern edge of the UIUC campus is a 10 minute walk along pleasant residential streets to campus. Champaign-Urbana is very flat, great for biking. There are several shops that offer bicycle rentals; I recommend Neutral Cycle.
