The SpaceThis thatched bungalow is spacious and comfortable with direct access to the Indian Ocean. It has a large veranda from where one can sit and enjoy the sound of the palm trees being hit by the ocean breeze and vistas over the lagoon where local fishermen go about their daily fishing activities. Inside you will find one large bedroom with the King Size bed and a sitting room cum living room with two singles beds. All beds have mosquito nets and the house has electricity and water is being pumped into the house from a private well. Toilet and shower facilities are within the bungalow. Guest AccessApart from a handful of small intimate resorts, Ushongo Bay only has a few private bungalows scattered across a roughly 5 kilometer beach. So it is never crowded here. At each extreme of the Bay there is a small fishing village in very traditional style. As such all fishermen use small dugouts propelled by sail for their fishing, which adds to the quiet and calm atmosphere here, where it truly feels like time is standing still. Fresh fish can be bought directly from the fishermen. The compound has lots of coconut trees from where the gardener is happy to bring down a couple of fresh coconuts for those who desire. Apart from the gardener there is a watchman and optionally house chores and be attended to by a local lady who is an expert at cooking meals local cuisine including fish. Alternatively meals can also be had at one the resorts in the bay. At the house guest will have access to all amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen with stove and fridge with a small freezer. Interaction with GuestsThe caretaker is always present at the house and can assist with practical matters. He lives within the compound but does not interact with guests beyond attending to whatever requests guests might have. A night watchman is present in the night and during the day there is a gardener who tends keeping the place clean and tidy. In case required a house keeper can also be arranged upon request and direct payment by guests. The NeighborhoodThe vicinity of the house is tranquil and extremely beautiful Indian Ocean coastline. The main draw of this place is the fact that you have pristine beach without the crowds of tourists that would normally be present at such a location. Ushongo Bay is one of those yet to be discovered and developed stretches of coast that are becoming rarer by each year. Indeed, this is a place to be discovered before this happens, since sooner rather than later it is bound to become a booming tourist destination. Getting AroundUshongo Beach is fairly remote, which is why is also the reason why it is still off-the-beaten track. Once at the beach house everything can be reached by foot walking along the beach. Major shopping is best done in Pangani however. Guided safari excursions and town tours of historic Pangani can be arranged via the caretaker. Fishing excursions either out to see or up the Pangani River can likewise be arranged via the caretaker, along with trip to Maziwa Island on the reef.
