The SpaceSurrounded by countryside, this is an ideal retreat for up to five people in three bedrooms, with two bath/shower rooms. Step outside into the gardens and farmyard or walk into the fields. It's all on your doorstep. This is a working farm so you might have to open the gates or make way for the sheep. We have sheep, a few cows, a horse and a dog. There are also sheep dogs from time to time. Guest AccessProvisions for a continental breakfast provided so you can be independent and enjoy a late start. There is a TV (not Sky) and a small selection of Blu ray films. You can walk anywhere on the farm and in the woods - at your own risk - but do not enter a field with either cows or horses. Keep out of the farm barns and off stacked wood and woodchip - all of which can be dangerous. For children - how about bringing your tent and camping in the orchard? If you change your mind, you can just pop back into the barn. March and April is a good time to see the lambs; August/September is good for picking blackberries. Interaction with GuestsThe barn, known as The Granary, is on the farm-yard along with the main house, a second letting barn, known as Barnaby, and a couple of modern working barns. There is ample parking and you can have access to the lawns and gardens in front of the barn. The Millennium Stadium is close to Cardiff Central railway station and it's an option to take the train from Newport and walk to matches. Getting AroundNot suitable if you don't have transport. The nearest bus is in Llanbygi - nearly two miles. Cycling is popular in the area - but quite hilly! You are advised to book taxis in advance as they have to come from either Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool or Usk. Other Things to NoteThere are some excellent restaurants in the area: The White Hart, Llangibby - check recent change of ownership The Hardwick, Abergavenny The Angel, Abergavenny The Raglan Arms, Llandenny Good pubs with food: The Carpenters' Arms, Coed y Paen The Greyhound The Olway, Usk.

Sleeps 4, 2 bedrooms. Cwm Cayo Mill Cottage is a traditionally restored and totally unique Tudor mill cottage, part of the Usk Castle estate. The cottage is situated at the end of a secret valley only a mile from the town of Usk; it is reached along a private lane and sits on the banks of a small tributary of The River Usk. The cottage and adjoining farmhouse is set in over a hundred acres of mixed woodland with miles of uninterrupted walking and its own woodland garden, over a wooden bridge on the other side of the brook. The cottage manages to combine the ancient and the modern very successfully with a new kitchen and excellent central heating yet retaining all the character of a 17th century riverside mill cottage. Cottage accommodation The kitchen has an electric hob and oven, a fridge and a freezer, dishwasher and microwave. There is a downstairs utility room/tack room (for visitors who may wish to bring horses to take advantage of the excellent riding). The sitting room is open to the sloping ceiling and has a glass balustraded open galley has double sofa bed if needed. In the sittingroom there is a lovely large very efficient woodburning stove, sofas and chairs and a TV with Freesat and DVD. The front door to the cottage is through the conservatory which overlooks the Cayo Brook - with views right down the brook and up into the woods. This is where the dining table is - lovely to sit there in the evening watching the wild life on the river and the water tumbling down the little waterfalls. Bedroom 1: Twin Beds that can also be converted to a double zip and link bed. The downstairs bathroom is "the piece de resistance" with an ORIGINAL RED TELEPHONE BOX CONVERTED PROFESSIONALLY TO A WALK-IN SHOWER UNIT. There is also a loo with a matching red seat! A handbasin and a lovely claw foot bath. This bathroom is so original it makes you want to laugh and then have a shower!!! Up an ancient curved staircase well with handmade steps to the balcony that overlooks the sitting room, with a large cartwheel featured lamp. Bedroom 2: The Master bedroom with a double bed, that can be converted to a twin and a handbasin and toilet. Useful information Bedlinen and towels provided.
