The SpaceI have a home that is at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with a large (10,000 square foot) yard and a private driveway for parking. This alternative space is an airy, spacious (420 sq. feet) well-insulated, fully carpeted and well lit lightly converted garage. Sleep on a comfortable queen bed, watch many cable channels on the flat screen TV and work on projects on at the large desk. Also included is central air (heating and air conditioning), a chest of drawers, a clothes rack, an antique couch, a large ceiling fan and a small modern refrigerator. You can open the door when it's sunny and take in the whole front yard... Guest AccessYou will have full access to my large versatile kitchen, a washer/dryer, cable TV and fast wifi. Parking on the large gated driveway is also included. You can enjoy my two dogs ( one terrier mix and one Bichon Frise) as well as Echo, my sweet fluffy gray cat, and three other house kitties (Osiris, Sabrina and Cassi). The yard features a jacuzzi with perfect jets, an outdoor shower, fruit trees (lemon, orange, kumquat, and avocado) outdoor seating, a canopy tent and a firepit. We also have two bicycles that are often available for guest use. Interaction with GuestsWhen I'm available I very much enjoy socializing with my guests over a homemade breakfast and coffee. I often host events at my house that guests are welcome to attend. These range from travel slide shows, sit down dinners to a Sex and Culture lecture series. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is wonderful. Neighbors are friendly and tolerant. Parking is plentiful - and being on the end of a cul-de-sac, my home and yard tend to be quiet. Nearby are wonderful and inexpensive restaurants and markets featuring food from Mexico, El Salvador, China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Armenia, Peru and Africa. Getting AroundIf you won't be arriving by car there are nearby buses that connect with the metro orange line busway. If I'm available I'm happy to pick you up at the Flyaway (LAX Shuttle) Station in Van Nuys, the Sepulveda Orange Line Metro station or the Metrolink/Amtrak station in Van Nuys. Uber and Lyft taxi service is fast and economical. Other Things to NoteStaying with me and my three roommates is not going to be like staying at a hotel! The patio doors are often open to allow fresh air flow (which also brings in leaves, dirt and insects). I do not have a professional cleaning staff so if you're looking to stay in a place that's 24/7 spotless, please consider other options! What you will find is an opportunity to interact with busy Southern California professionals (one of my roommates is a veterinary sciences student, the other is a yoga teacher and massage therapist) and I'm a well-traveled anthropologist, sexologist, photographer and writer. In compliance with Los Angeles City Law, I have a business license--Airbnb collects the Los Angeles transient occupancy tax during the booking process.

The SpaceThe entire condo building is open air Mediterranean style lay-out with only 24 units on 2 floors. There is an open patio with trees in green pods. The high ceilings and wide glass doors and windows create a vibrant environment. There is a pocket door connecting the private bedroom and bathroom, which is hotel-quality with glass doors and tiled floors and walls. The place is modern and clean and price includes housekeeper who comes every other Thursday. Currently, the room is not available for weekly or monthly stays. There is a guest using 2 to 3 nights per week, the exact dates change each week. Only able to accommodate nightly stays, usually weekends and a few weeknights. Guest AccessLiving room, kitchen, dining area, balcony. Interaction with GuestsI am flexible. Can leave you alone if you are familiar with and don't need assistance, but if you are new to LA, I can give you advice and tips. The NeighborhoodThis is a highly walk-able, safe neighborhood called the Kittridge Estates. My favorite thing about it include the street I live on, which is palm-tree lined, often used for TV and film shoots, and the variety of ethnic food in the immediate area. Within a 5 mile radius you have Vietnamese Pho, Italian, Cuban, Peruvian ceviche and wood fired Chicken, Salvadoran pupusas and plantains, Mexican seafood, and the world famous Armenian garlic chicken at Zankou. I moved here for the green spaces, especially the multi-acre park I described above and the access to Santa Monica Mountains hiking a short drive from here. For LGBT travelers, there is a Latino gay theme club, called Cobra 15 minutes east of here that is an alternative to the mainstream scene. If you prefer a concentrated gay area, West Hollywood is 35 minutes south of here. For all travelers, I encourage you to opt for driving "over the hill" from the Valley to Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills using any of the major streets that cut through some of the most beautiful canyons in LA. I had lived here all my life and never got off the freeways using these routes and I can say its one of the most pleasant things to do, especially if you avoid rush hour. Getting AroundWalking distance to the Metro Orange Line which connects to the Red Line and Subway system. Ten minutes to the Amtrak station, LAX shuttle, and MetroLink stations. There is also a neighborhood DASH line that connects you to all these other stations and has a stop very close to my place. Other Things to NoteThe thing I like most about this location is that it is away from the traffic of the Westside, Beach cities, local mountains, and Hollywood, but you can get to those spots easily. The Getty Center, Skirball Museum, and Armand Hammer Museum are all off the main bus line here, and within a half hour drive with no traffic. To get to the stunning mountain hikes that cut over to the Beach and PCH, you drive North 30 minutes. And to get to Hollywood, Downtown, or anywhere the Subway goes, just go to the North Hollywood or Universal City stations located 15 minutes from here. If you are travelling by public transportation, there is a stop for every system in this neighborhood, including Orange Line, DASH, Amtrak, Metrolink, MTA buses. If you are a swimmer, like me, I recommend the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Aquatic Center. It is Olympic sized, very clean, and best public aquatic center in the Valley. (Note, it closes for annual maintenance from Labor Day until late September). This center is inside a beautiful large, park called Hazeltine Park, which has walking and running paths as well as tennis, basketball and other fields. If you bike or want to enjoy one of the largest recreation areas in Los Angeles, do not miss the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Center, minutes from here, at Lake Balboa. This place is four giant city blocks of activity areas, including a wildlife area for migrating birds, tons of running and walking paths, a public golf course, a section with courts and fields for every sport you an think of, and an off-leash dog park. There is a farmers market here Sundays from 8am to 1pm. In addition, there are cricket fields, an archery range, velodrome, and area for flying model airplane. This is also the site of an amazing environmentally sensitive project that uses reclaimed water to maintain one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens in the US and the Lake Balboa itself (no swimming allowed), and green fields. If you are into hiking (or driving along a famous street with stunning views separating the Valley and Westside), Mulholland Drive is a must-see. Minutes from the winding, tree and mansion-lined streets on each side. there are some of the most quiet and rustic hiking paths in the city, including my favorites, Franklin Canyon and Wilacre Park. If you prefer to hike where you might run into Hollywood actors, you can drive just 10 minutes from these options and go to Runyon Canyon (too crowded for me, though the incline is great on one of the trails, and this one is less crowded). The north side of Griffith Park is easily accessible from the Valley. Griffith Park is larger than Central Park in NYC and has a diverse set of activities. The GP Observatory is exceptional and offers a view of the ocean and the iconic Hollywood sign. Very easy hikes above the Observatory lead to almost 360 view of LA City. Finally, if you come to LA during the Summer Hollywood Bowl season, and do not plan a night out and picnic there, you did not experience LA. This is the largest outdoor amphitheater in the United States, is nestled in a canyon and surrounded by picnic areas. Its an LA tradition and headlines amazing shows on weekends. During weekdays, its even better. Less crowded and you can see the LA Philharmonic doing Classical, Jazz and other shows, depending on the day of the week.
