The SpaceThe room is located in my large ancestral house. It is a beautiful, cozy & spacious air-conditioned 5-bed mixed dorm with single beds that remains quiet & dark for a sound sleep. Single use private bathrooms are available. When you book here, you will be booking the entire room, i.e. all the 5 beds. Guest AccessYou will have free access to most of the services & facilities offered by the hostel: fast Wi-Fi, purified drinking water, several common spaces, a rather huge rooftop and even a meditation room. A washing machine and a fully equipped modern kitchen (vegetarian only) are there for your convenience at a nominal surcharge of Rs.100 each per use. Interaction with GuestsYou can conveniently choose your preferred level of interaction. You can always walk into the common room where you can meet other travellers on a regular day, and my family or staff on the quieter days. The NeighborhoodThe hostel is located away from the chaos of Varanasi, in a relatively clean & quiet neighbourhood, barely 5-7 minutes walking distance from Varanasi Junction (BSB) train station. The city centre is just a short tuk-tuk ride away! Convenience stores, street food stalls and public transportation are easily available immediately outside our alley. It is an oasis in the chaos of Varanasi! Getting AroundIMPORTANT: Please do not let anyone tell and make you believe that this hostel does not exist or that it has closed down or similar things. This is a very common scam in India. Tuk-Tuk and taxi drivers receive commission from other places and hence they may dupe you into going there instead. Ignore everything else and follow our directions below: 1). Arriving at Varanasi Junction Railway Station: Get off the train. Come out of the railway station. Turn right on the bustling street. At the junction exit the street to go into the city on the left, then cross 'Englishia Line junction' to go straight onto Vidyapeeth Road for about 300m. Look out for Gate #2 of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth University, or just Vidyapeeth University, on your left-hand side (there is a Blue road sign in Hindi facing you, but the backside has English text). When you have reached the gate you will find a quiet alleyway on your right-hand side, close to Hotel Ashoka Grand. Get into the alleyway and look for a green ITH signage! We're about 100m into the alley on the left. International Travellers' Hostel is about 5-7 minutes walking distance from Varanasi Junction Railway Station. If you feel like you have walked too long - stop, turn around, and look for a huge green ITH signage. And please do not hire a Tuk-Tuk! It's not worth the money. They may tell you plenty of stories. Ignore. 2). Arriving at Manduadih Railway Station: Exit the station and get a Tuk-Tuk to the above directed uni gate. It should cost roughly INR 50 - 80. 3). Arriving at Mughal Sarai Junction Railway Station: Exit the station and get a Tuk-Tuk or Taxi to the above directed uni gate. The Tuk-Tuk should cost roughly INR 150 - 200 and the Taxi INR 400 - 600. These two options are going to be the most convenient for you. Alternatively, you may also try to get a bus to Varanasi Bus Stand which is about 10 minutes walking distance from the hostel, or get a train to Varanasi Junction Railway Station and then follow the above directions. 4). Arriving on a Bus: You are brave for taking a bus! In this case you will most likely be dropped off either at Varanasi Bus Stand or in the vicinity of Varanasi Junction Railway Station. The best thing would be to find the train station and then follow the above directions. 5). If you're flying into Varanasi: Well, go past the baggage claim, then just before exiting the airport there are a couple of pre-paid Taxi booths on the left. You can get an AC Taxi for INR 700. Tell the Taxi driver to bring you to Gate #2 of Vidyapeeth University. We also offer a pick-up facility for INR 1,200. In this case, just exit the airport and we'll be waiting for you with a placard! 6). Arriving on a Boat? Haha! No kidding - we've heard that it is possible (at least from nearby cities like Allahabad)! It is very unlikely, but just in case you do arrive on a boat, let us know and we'll pick you up for free! Make sure to de-board at Assi Ghat. Rickshaws and auto-rickshaws (tuk-tuks) easily available out on the street. Other Things to NoteThe whole family is vegetarian. Therefore we only allow vegetarian/vegan food & drinks to be brought in. In an attempt to reduce plastic pollution in the holy city, we do not allow plastic bottles to be left behind. If you bring a plastic bottle along, you will be required to carry it out. We offer unlimited supply of purified drinking water, so this shouldn't be a big concern for you.

The SpaceArguably world’s finest marble, Makrana (Sang e Marmar, said to have been used in the Taj Mahal) as the ground you walk on, silver polished fittings you hold, antique furniture designs, are some choices made to bring back the feel of a life that once was. A clear view of the auspicious Neem Tree in the community garden and lots of natural light, keep you connected with the world outside. And you can always step into the balcony right outside while you absorb the local flavours over a morning tea or evening coffee. With an enviable location in the heart of the city and yet not crowded or noisy, Aashray is your cosy cacoon in the religious capital of India. It's in a colony, but the main road linking the entire city is less than 100 meters away. Railway or bus station, temples, Ghats, shopping centers, mall, craft centers, restaurants, boats, hospitals and eatables, are all available within the radius of three kilometers of the house. Besides the two guestrooms already listed as the 'Most Loved Homestay', this Pearl room is the new addition to our Guestrooms. The guestrooms come with the following amenities: * Hot and cold water * Guest supplies * Hair dryer * Tea / Coffee maker * TV with Sattelite * White linen Needless to mention, you can make any special requests you may have at the time of booking. We assure you of our very best. Your Hosts: Aashray comes with the touch of hospitality of Mrs and Mr Kapur, known to be one of the best hosts in the city. An extremely courteous couple. Mr Kapur, although a Consultant by profession is an avid reader of Hindi literature and devotes a lot of his time in keeping alive the culture and arts of Varanasi. Widely traveled across India, Mr Kapur has a rich background of knowledge of Indian culture which shines through in all his interactions. You can even request for Mr Kapur’s company on your city and Ganges tour for an enriching experience. Mrs Kapur, a designer and a post graduate in Indian Classical music, is known more for her warmth and the magic she creates with the Indian veggies (you might almost forget your meats and fish for a while!) She can thrill you with fresh, simple yet delectable dishes from her kitchen (fondly referred to as the 'Tasty-Health Food Lab' by guests) that are an intrinsic part of the Indian hospitality. Staying with the Kapurs, you get to sample the unique mix of traditional and modern values that personify the India of today. Thanks to their interest in Yoga, Indian history, local culture, cuisines and customs, they are able to share a lot in the moments that you are part of their lives. Guest AccessGuests have access to all the common areas of the homestay. Getting AroundWe are happy to arrange airport / station pick and drop on cost on request. We also organise Ganga boat ride, arti and other sightseeing tours in Varanasi and around.

The SpaceNamaste! The City of light, Benaras, as is popularly known, or Varanasi, welcomes and opens her soul to all those who want to have at least a glimpse of it! Following its spirit, is a little abode in the heart of the city, Aashray, where old meets new, tradition meets progression, respect for privacy meets Indian Hospitality! Let the spirituality, colours and chaos of this ancient city entice you, while Aashray, indulges and relaxes your soul with its warmth, in its own unique way. Please feel free to read more reviews on Trip Advisor by the name Aashray, Varanasi. Location: With an enviable location in the heart of the city and yet not crowded or noisy, Aashray is your cosy cacoon in the religious capital of India. Railway or bus station, temples, Ghats, shopping centers, mall, craft centers, restaurants, boats, hospitals and eatables, are all available within the radius of three kilometers of the house. There are two guestrooms with en suite bathrooms, Classic and Heritage, each with their own identity. Classic, one floor up from the ground floor household, as the name suggests, is a perfect blend of the modern comforts with the quintessential Indian touch. Constant flow of natural light, pure rich colours, bathroom with western fittings and a separate shower area, all add up to its charm. And in case you decide to spend a lazy afternoon with a book or just lazing, the grandfather's armchair maybe your perfect corner. Heritage, on the ground floor, takes you back to the era that once was. Spacious, without any compromise on comforts, is adorned with antique furniture going back more than 80 years that belonged to another generation Kapurs. And you can step out anytime into the world of an Indian household, be it the morning rituals or evening arti. Both the guestrooms are air conditioned and come with the following amenities: * Hot and cold water * Guest supplies * Hair dryer * Tea / Coffee maker * White linen Needless to mention, you can make any special requests you may have at the time of booking. The name Varanasi possibly originates from the names of the two rivers: Varuna, still flowing in Varanasi, and Asi, a small stream near Assi Ghat. The old city does lie on the north shores of Ganga river bounded by its two tributaries Varuna and Asi. Another speculation is that the city derives its name from the river Varuna, which was called Varanasi in olden times. This is generally disregarded by historians. Through the ages, Varanasi has been known by many names including Kashi (used by pilgrims dating from Buddha's days), K??ik? (the shining one), Avimukta ("never forsaken" by Shiva), ?nandavana (the forest of bliss), and Rudrav?sa (the place where Rudra/?iva resides).[12] In the Rigveda, the city is referred to as K??? or Kashi, the luminous city as an eminent seat of learning.[13] The name K??? is also mentioned in the Skanda Purana. In one verse, Shiva says, "The three worlds form one city of mine, and K??? is my royal palace therein. According to legend, Varanasi was founded by the god Shiva.[15] The Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic Mahabharata are also stated to have visited the city in search of Shiva to atone for their sins of fratricide and Br?hmanahatya that they had committed during the climactic Kurukshetra war.[16].
