The Neighborhood Beautiful Verdun is located on the bank of St. Lawrence River on the other side of the Nun's island. The settlement of Verdun was founded in 1671, making it one of Canada's oldest cities. In 1956, Nuns' Island (île des Sœurs) was amalgamated with Verdun, which is on the Island of Montreal. Verdun is a chiefly residential area. However, the late 1990s and 2000s (decade) saw a revival of the Wellington Street commercial artery, with several shops, restaurants, and cafés opening. Other commercial areas include Verdun Street, Church Street (rue de l'Eglise) and Commerce Place (Place du Commerce) on Nuns' Island. Bell Canada is now headquartered in Verdun, on a campus on the northern tip of Nuns' Island. Recreational facilities include the Verdun Auditorium, a hockey arena and concert hall, the home of the now defunct Junior de Montréal team. On November 2, 1993, rock band Nirvana played a concert at the auditorium on their final North American tour. Expansive parks (L'Honorable-George-O'Reilly, Mgr-J-A-Richard, and Arthur-Therrien) with bike paths line the banks of the St. Lawrence River, making Verdun one of the few parts of the Island of Montreal to open onto the whole length of its waterfront, a legacy of the flooding that once impeded settlement. The waterfront also features the Verdun Natatorium, public-access docks and a marina, an open-air dancing shell, a lawn bowling green, and football, baseball, and soccer fields. Cycling is also available along the Canal de l'Aqueduc on the opposite edge of the borough; on rue de Verdun; and around and through Nuns' Island, including the cycle-accessible Champlain Bridge ice structure connecting to Île Notre-Dame and the south shore. Another of the borough's major green spaces, the Domaine Saint-Paul (Boisé de l'Île-des-Sœurs), preserves the natural woodland of Nuns' Island, home to more than a hundred species of birds as well as the scarce brown snake. Trails lead through the woodland. The campus of the Douglas Hospital is also a major green space open to the public. Smaller parks are also dotted through the borough. The borough's community centres are the Centre communautaire Marcel-Giroux, near the borough hall; the Centre communautaire Elgar on Nuns' Island; and the Centre culturel de Verdun, in the western part of the borough. The latter two facilities include public libraries and art exhibition spaces. Getting around Public buses stop just 2-3 minutes away from the house. Subway station is about 5-7 min walk from the house. It will take you ~15-20 minutes to get to the downtown. Bixi bicycle renting steps away form the house. Parking is free on the street. Easy access to Hgwy 15, 20, and 720. Beautiful Verdun is located on the bank of St. Lawrence River on the other side of the Nun's island. The SpaceI have a lovely bedroom available in a large upper duplex in Verdun (minutes from downtown Montreal). The beautifully furnished room includes a double bed, closet, dresser, WIFI internet, clean linens and towels. The apartment boasts charm and is outfitted with everything you should need. The kitchen is available for your use – maybe a visit to the Atwater Market will inspire the chef in you! ...Or you could leave it to a professional chef and discover Montreal's many delicious eateries! Don't miss your opportunity to have an excellent trip to Montreal, without the hotel price tag! Guest AccessAssigned bedroom, shared bathroom, kitchen, washer & dryer, living and dining room. Interaction with GuestsI'm a business owner and work from home (generally between 9am-7pm) and may not always be available to interact with my guests during that time (even though I'm around). I'm happy to chat with my guests when I'm not working and give them any information/suggestions they may want/need. The NeighborhoodVerdun is an up and coming neighbourhood minutes from the city, with many amazing new (trendy) restaurants and cafés within walking distance of the apartment. It's been coined as the "new Plateau". Quiet treelined streets in a vibrant neighbourhood – what more could you ask for? Want a waterfront view too? Done! The waterfront is a short two minute walk from the apartment, where you can enjoy a stroll or bike ride along the St. Lawrence River. Getting AroundIt's easy to get downtown and explore the city! Steps away from public transportation – 1 minute to a bus that takes you downtown, 6 minutes to Verdun metro station (green line)...you can be in the heart of Montreal within 15 minutes! Traveling by car? Great access to the highways, with free street parking available. Other Things to NoteI am "mother" to a friendly Miniature Schnauzer named Winston. I adopted the 8 year old fella from the SPCA – he is well-mannered and hard not to love. Winston isn't much of a barker at home and is continuing to learn good doggie manners. For those with allergies, Schnauzers are a hypoallergenic breed (they don't shed), but of course I cannot guarantee that your allergy symptoms won't surface. Winston's waggin' his tail...he's looking forward to meeting you.

The SpaceOur post-war totally renovated apartment is a 2 minute walk from the Verdun metro station which brings you to Downtown or Old Montreal in 15 minutes. You will be staying with us in our 2 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment. Our apartment is quite large with a great kitchen, dining table and a lounge area with big TV. The guest bedroom has a queen sized bed, a study desk, ample wardrobe and shelving. There is also climate control for winter and an oscillating tower fan for summer. *Note - we do not have cable TV but have G. Chromecast so all you need is an internet connection and your phone/laptop. Guest AccessGuests have full access to our apartment except our own bedroom of course. Our facilities (kitchen, TV, lounge area, WiFi, bath) are your facilities for your stay. As this is our home our only expectation is that as guests you treat everything with the same respect as if it was your own home. We would expect that guests after eating and drinking either clean up or place dishes in our dishwasher as we do. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to interact with guests as much or not as desired. We respect privacy and the wishes of our guests. That being said, if a guest wishes to spend time with us that is all cool. We have been lucky to welcome guests from across the world in our first year of hosting - Austria, Iran, Armenia, Brazil, Germany, Canada, Australia, France, New Zealand, Turkey, Lebanon, Vietnam, Russia and the USA (California, Maine, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New York). We enjoy meeting people of all walks of life and backgrounds. The NeighborhoodWe love Verdun and we want you to love it as well. On arrival guests will be given a map with helpful food hints and other information about the local Verdun area and Montreal. There is also a Guidebook attached to our Airbnb listing which has recommendations for Verdun and downtown Montreal (with link to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps). We are avid foodies and have tried just about every place nearby and many places in greater Montreal. We only recommend places we have been to many times and have had consistently great food and service. Getting AroundThe Verdun metro station is 2 blocks away from our home (or 200 meters). It is 6-7 stops (15 minutes) to Downtown or the historic Old Port or Old Montreal area. The metro operates from 530/600am till about 1am almost every day of the year. There are various options for weekend, weekly or 3 day passes which cover both Metro and Bus system and are very economical. We can give you help on best options for your stay on check-in. Other Things to NoteWe love travel, great food, nature and the occasional glass of red and love to receive couples, singles, tourists and business people. We both have quite serious jobs Monday to Friday but we work to live, not live to work. Between us we speak French, English and Spanish to native proficiency and a little Portuguese, German and Polish at a push :) Our days of partying till 2am are over so if you are coming to Montreal to party we would recommend staying much closer to the action near St Denis, St Catherine or Crescent streets. We do enjoy a good laugh and drink and in the good old days we both traveled/hosted and surfed sofas in Europe. Parking is available on-street and is free but it is also first come, first served. Usually though guests have no problems parking their cars.

The SpaceBECAUSE OF TENANTS LIVING ABOVE, WE DO NOT ALLOW PARTY OR EXCESSIVE NOISE! The building is located opposite a beautiful park, which runs along the St. Lawrence River shores. From the first days of spring, you can enjoy a 20 km bicycle path. This is the "bicycle path is called "piste cyclable des berges - secteur ouest". Bicycles are available for rent. In the summer, you can also enjoy one of the largest outdoor pools in Montreal. Significant work has allowed the addition of a paddling pool with water jets and other watering, which can accommodate up to 250 children, suddenly raising the capacity of the pool complex at 1150 bathers. You play tennis or would love to try? There are tennis courts in front of the house. You can even rent kayaks and explore this little corner of the city which is without exaggeration a hidden gem. Did you know that Verdun won the prize for the cleanest shore in Quebec - World Wildlife Federation? I also invite you to (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map the area and virtually walk around. The postal code is H4H1N7. The apartment is a true gem. Without unnecessary artifice, it is great, warm, with all the charm of old apartments in Montreal. Have you noticed the outside staircase wrought iron and wood typical of Montreal? The apartment is on the ground floor and has a nice basement. The apartment has 3 large closed furnished bedrooms (possibility for a 4th bedroom). The apartment itself has 6 rooms. The ceilings are nearly three meters high. ALL BEDDING IS NEW! Let me mention the size of the basement: 110 square meters (1200 square feet) This make a whole surface of 220 square meters (2400 square meters) living area. Lots and lots of space! The apartment is ideal for families or groups. Two families can stay in the apartment for several days without problem. Bus stop in front of the house. 5 min walk to bus (or about 10 minutes’ walk). Comfort and tranquility assured. Nice little neighborhood : everything id near by. Garden and terrace at the rear. A visit will convince you!

The SpaceBright, fully equipped and furnished 3 bedroom apartment, 2 steps from De L'Église metro in downtown Verdun (really, I love this area of Montreal, you find everything at the street corner!) and a 5min walk to the riverside - everything included! There is a sunny, large living room that you can also use as a working station because it is nice and sunny and where I have a hammock-chair to use as a relaxing / reading / meditation area. There is a balcony facing Galt street and where we can see the metro at the corner of the street. In the back, we have a small solarium that is unused in the winter but a small garden-to-be hopefully this summer. The building is a bit oldish, dating from around 1910, which in my opinion gives it the charisma of typically Montreal triplexes so we have to be a bit indulgent about its small flaws. Guest AccessWe can find everything at the street corner! It’s amazing: the metro (bringing you downtown in 15 minutes), a great bakery and coffee shops, multiple restaurants, boutiques, banks, postal office, pharmacy, grocery store, fruiterie, liquor store (SAQ), church…etc etc etc.! We are in the heart of Verdun and this is where special activities take place. Let’s not forget the St-Lawrence River at the end of the street with a riverside park to relax. 5 minutes from home.
