The SpaceWe are trying AirBnB's market pricing. Come stay in a bit of Wisconsin history. Over a century ago our two bedroom suite consisted of four rooms let to men on business at the mill or the local brewery. Now the two single occupancy rooms hold beds that undoubtedly are far more comfortable than the miller ever offered. What had been the double occupancy rooms are now a charming living area, full kitchen and bathroom. The space in the living area allows for extra guests or simply a place to relax. The Paoli House Inn is ideally situated for those attending weddings or events in the Paoli Mill Park, bicycling adventures on the miles of nearby trails, kayaking or other outdoor adventures in the newly developed Falk Wells Sugar River Wildlife Area. Just ten minutes from the Epic Campus or New Glarus and a short drive to Madison, the University of Wisconsin Campus and Camp Randall. The Paoli House Inn offers a restful retreat for the modern day traveler in the heart of a small farmers crossroads that has become a modern artisan community. Several restaurants are a short stroll away or the the full kitchen allows you to put your culinary artistry to use. Rates reflect up to four adult guests, additional guests $50 each maximum occupancy of six persons. Guest AccessHD TV (broad cast), DVD Player, WiFi, Full Kitchen, Full Bath w/ laundry facilities, off street parking for up to two vehicles with additional spaces available nearby. Enjoy a 10% Discount on all art in the Paoli Mill Park Gallery downstairs. Interaction with GuestsEnjoy your stay above the Paoli Mill Park Gallery and feel free to browse or chat during our normal business hours and take advantage of your 10% discount on art from over 100 Wisconsin and regional artists. Guests enjoy a private entrance separate from the gallery. We asks that guests limit themselves to the entryway and upper floor outside of gallery business hours. The NeighborhoodThe Paoli House, home of the Paoli House Suite and Paoli Mill Park Gallery was once was a rooming house for hops traders, grain merchants and travelers. At one time the lower floor featured a small saloon and dining room, now it is the home to the art from one hundred plus Wisconsin and Regional artisans. The upper floor was the local "hotel," with four guest rooms, two of which are now our suites living room, kitchen and bathroom. Paoli is a quaint farmers cross road on the edge of Wisconsin's driftless area. Enjoy the peace and quite of a small country town on the banks of the Sugar River. Several historic buildings now host galleries and restaurants where once grain was ground, cheese was made or farm children learned. The Sugar River is a Class B trout stream that is also popular for kayaking and canoeing. Recently the Bruce Company sold over five hundred acres of land along the Sugar River to Dane County and the State of Wisconsin. Part of this land will be used to make Paoli the hub of the several major bicycling trails that pass within one to two miles of Paoli. The balance of this land is there for the public to enjoy as Dane County's newest public recreation area. New Glarus is a short trip down County Highway PB to WI Hwy 69. Take Hwy 69 North to Verona and you will be one exit east on US 151 of the Epic System's campus. A few short miles further and you will find yourself on Mount Horeb's "Trollway." County PB connects with US 151 less than three miles north and you will be within the city limits of Madison in less than five minutes. Camp Randall, the University of Wisconsin, the UW Arboretum and Edgewood College are all easily accessed. The Capitol square, State Street and the Alliant Energy Center, Home of the World Dairy Expo, are only a little further. So if business or pleasure brings you to the Madison area, or you are looking for a nearby get away from Madison we are the place for you. Getting AroundA car is recommended but not required. We are roughly twenty minutes drive south of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Paoli is really the first place where you have the "out in the country feel" but close enough to Madison to easily get to any point in the city quickly. Several major public bicycle trails are within two miles, the Ice Age Trail is roughly a mile north of Paoli. The Sugar River, a popular kayaking and fishing river is a half a block east. Other Things to NoteWe also offer art lessons in house. Ask about availability and options. Please feel free to contact us to find out what is going on in town and around the area.

The SpaceWelcome to my historic home and your colorful, comfy 2nd floor private room with a Beatles theme! The guest room has a full-size futon bed with memory foam topper for 1 person or 2 people who can sleep together. If you are a couple traveling with a small child, I can provide a cot or bedroll. There is an adjacent 1/2 bath; the primary bathroom with shower is downstairs on the main floor. The stone exterior keeps the house cool in summer; ceiling fans throughout the house. If your family is 3 or 4, check my separate listing for my cool, spacious Art Studio , just steps from the main house. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/7661185 More privacy, full and single beds, and an additional cot available. There is no toilet or WIFI in the studio, though. All guests may utilize the primary downstairs bathroom in the house, which has a nice shower and plenty of clean towels. Use the kitchen and Weber grill to prepare meals if you'd like (just let me know in advance). Coffee or tea provided before you head in to town for breakfast. Make yourself at home. Enjoy the surroundings during the day and the starry, starry night! Guest AccessAccess to shared living areas (1/2 bathroom, master bathroom, living room, kitchen), new deck with grill, fire pit, yard, and prairie trails. Interaction with GuestsI like to greet my guests upon arrival, show you around and let you get settled. This is a situation in which you are sharing my living space. I'm gregarious, and I'm more than happy to interact as much as you'd like, but I will also stay out of your way. You can enjoy complete privacy in your room, on the deck, or strolling around the 3-acre property and adjacent park land. The NeighborhoodYou'll love my charming old home, which some guests have lovingly referred to as a "Hobbit House." My property is a 3-acre parcel of mostly restored prairie and large oak and walnut trees. The stone house is 165 (or so) years old and has been lovingly restored since my family purchased it in 1967. The property is just a few miles from Epic, and the charming towns of Mt. Horeb, Blue Mounds, New Glarus, and Spring Green. It is adjacent to 300-acre Donald Park, with miles of hiking and equestrian trails. Numerous bike trails are nearby, and a world-class trout stream is just down the road. Getting AroundYou will need a vehicle--there is no public transportation in the area. My driveway is fairly steep, but regularly plowed in winter. The Madison airport is 30 miles away. Other Things to NoteThere are many great side trips (for car and bicycle) within a 30-mile radius: New Glarus Brewery, Blue Mound State Park, Taliesin, Wisconsin Brewing Company, Cave of the Mounds, House on the Rock, American Players Theater, and of course, fabulous Madison! Kayak or canoe many local rivers and lakes. Wisconsin Dells, Baraboo, and Devil's Lake State Park are an hour away. Great area for cycling--in early September, the bike route for Iron Man Triathalon goes right by the road to my house!

Enjoy rural life in a historic hotel/rooming house. Located in a circa 1880 hotel the Paoli House Inn offers a two bedroom suite with plenty of room to spread out and relax. Paoli is a small historic farming crossroads that has become an artisan destination with several art galleries and restaurants within easy walking distance, including one right downstairs! Located on the edge of Wisconsin's driftless area the Inn is minutes away from some of the best bicycling and cross country skiing in south central Wisconsin. Trout fishing and kayaking are right down the street in the Sugar River. Near several craft breweries including New Glarus Brewery (15 minutes south) and Wisconsin Brewing (5 minutes north). Close enough to Madison Wisconsin for easy access to all Wisconsin's Capitol City has to offer but off the beaten track for a quite restful retreat. Suite consists of two bedrooms, a living room and a dine in kitchen. Kitchen is fully stocked with plates, silverware and cookware. A full sized refrigerator and stove allow for your culinary creativity to fly or use the microwave to reheat leftovers. Coffee maker, toaster and blender are also available. Children are welcome but we do have a no pets policy. Smokers are welcome to use the front porch but a strict in building no smoking policy is enforced at all times. We are located just south of the terminal moraines from the last major North American glaciation. The Sugar River, a half a block east of our location formed as the main channel of the glacial out wash plain. A bend in the river and the subtle down slope of the local area made an ideal area for a mill. In the mid 1840's the first mill was built harnessing water from a dam roughly one quarter of a mile west near what is now a parking area for the Falk-Wells Wildlife Area. The water ran through a now filled in slough to a turbine under the mill, a side wheel would not have been practical for the sight. At first the mill functioned as a sawmill but after a few years of operation equipment to grind the local grain crops produced. Milling continued using water power until the mid nineteen seventies. The Mill itself stands as the cornerstone for a private ten acre park/retail complex across the street from what we call the Paoli House. Some of the best bicycling in south central Wisconsin hubs in or near Paoli. The Military Ridge eastern end point is just to the north and the Badger State Trail is just to the east. Several very scenic rural back roads connect these trails and the Sugar River Trail roughly ten miles to the southwest. The Madison Metropolitan Area can be easily reached by bicycle following the Badger State Trail north. Paoli by trails and back roads is roughly twenty five miles from the Capitol Square on the Madison isthmus. The Sugar River is a popular place for kayaking. Starting at the Madison Metropolitan School forest and ending either at the Falk-Wells southern parking area or at the Paoli Mill Park provides a two to three hour float/paddle. The river is also a trout stream known better for the size of the trout caught rather than the number of fish caught. The opening of the Falk Wells Wildlife area just to the northwest of Paoli has opened a substantial run of the Sugar River to public access. Local kayaking groups seasonally clear dead falls and other obstacles. Paoli is geographically well situated to experience the best attractions of south central Wisconsin. To the west is the drift less area, a region in the upper mid west never glaciated provides gorgeous scenery year round. New Glarus is the home to festivals celebrating the local Swiss heritage and Mount Horeb is proud of their Norwegian celebrating it with the "Troll Way" . Both are short drives away. Wisconsin's State Capitol city, Madison and the University of Wisconsin are roughly twenty minute drives to the north. Wisconsin is known for its cheese and its beer of course. Two craft breweries, New Glarus and Wisconsin Brewing Company are a short drive away. Fresh cheese from Monroe is for sale as close as across the street or there are several factories offering tours and tasting. Paoli itself is a destination. Once a farming crossroads the small town has become an artisan community with shops, restaurants and art galleries; including one right downstairs from where you will be staying.. Our building was built circa 1880 as a rooming house for men traveling for business at the mill. What was once the saloon, dining hall and the millers kitchen and bedroom are now our art gallery. The upstairs rooms have become our suite that we are offering to you. We are pretty sure we have made it a more comfortable stay than it was in the nineteenth century.

The SpaceThe studio is a high-ceiling, airy building nestled under huge old walnut and oak trees. Warm-colored fabric, rugs, and furniture make a comfy space to hang out and relax, read, nap, or roll out a yoga mat. The space has no toilet or running water, so guests come to the house (a 10-second walk) for access to the house (shared) bathroom & shower, kitchen, and large shade-covered deck. There is a "Luggable Loo" portable toilet if you're too sleepy to get to the house! No internet access in the studio, but WIFI is available in the main house, front deck and yard. Bring your music and your way to play it! There is a mini-fridge, toaster, and small microwave, but you're welcome to store food/drinks in the main house fridge. Let us know if you want to cook in the house kitchen or use the grill on the deck. Guest AccessStudio and small deck; and living areas in my home--large front deck, well-appointed kitchen, bathroom with shower, yard and prairie trails, fire pit. Interaction with GuestsI'm here to guide you and answer questions. I'll be happy to meet you and show you around! I'm gregarious, but I can also stay out of your way. Help yourself to coffee, tea, and bagels in the main house before you head in to Mt. Horeb for many good breakfast options. The NeighborhoodThis is the Driftless ( unglaciated) part of Wisconsin, with scenic rolling hills and farmland, and pastures dotted with cows. My property is a 3-acre parcel of mostly restored prairie and large oak and walnut trees. The stone house is 165 (or so) years old and has been lovingly restored since my family purchased it in 1967. The studio was built in 2002. The upper level is used for storage, and the entire downstairs is for guests. Large sliding glass doors along the south wall provide nice views of the adjacent horse pasture and my neighbor's historic farm. There is much to see and do in the area! Charming Mt. Horeb is a 10-minute drive (great coffee shop, food, wine and beer, and plenty of shops). For beer fans, New Glarus Brewery and Wisconsin Brewing Company are 20 minutes away. Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin and American Players Theater (APT) and the Wisconsin River are at nearby Spring Green. State and county parks abound, bike trails, swimming holes, skiing, and lots of rivers for paddling. And fabulous Madison is an easy 30-minute drive. Getting AroundYou will need a car. There is no public transportation in the area. All-season or snow tires in winter make things much easier! I am 30 minutes from downtown Madison. Other Things to NoteI like to be there to greet you, but self check-in is easy if I'm not home. There is about a 40 yd. walk from the parking area where you will load and unload your car. Bring a flashlight. Please read directions to the property carefully. I live on a dead end road, but I like to minimize disturbance to my neighbors whenever possible. My driveway is marked by a big red mailbox and a small sign "CHENEY" that points down the driveway. Bring your own music and a way to play it. If you play piano, there is a nice electric keyboard! There is a microwave, toaster, and mini-fridge in the studio, but you are welcome to store food in the main house fridge and use the kitchen or outdoor grill to prepare a meal--just let me know in advance!
