The SpaceOur tipi is located in a field abundant with wildflowers up a gentle sloping hill from our house. There is a bathroom building located adjacent to the tipi that houses a composting toilet and a sink with cold running water. Our property is located in the beautiful town of Strafford, which is off the beaten path but has easy access to all that the mountains of eastern Vermont have to offer. We are close to the Hanover/Norwich/White River area and there are numerous places to hike, fish, swim, mountain bike and kayak nearby. Our town has a beautiful historic town house to be explored and there is a gorgeous waterfall 3 miles away from our home. Strafford is home to the historic Justin Morrill Homestead which offers tours of the buildings and gardens. A car is a necessity as much of Vermont and nearby New Hampshire are rural with very little or no public transportation. Driving times from Boston: 2.5 hours, NYC: 5hours and 3.5 hours to Montreal. The Stone Soup restaurant is located in Strafford and offers gourmet cuisine in an old blacksmith shop and is open Thursday to Sunday evenings with reservations and of note: does not accept credit cards. Hattie's Kitchen is a local cafe that is open for breakfast and lunch 5 days a week and usually serves dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday and specializes in comfort foods. It is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. There are numerous restaurant choices in the greater Hanover/White River area. We have a friendly cat that lives at the house, and many hummingbirds and other wild birds. In the summer our house is surrounded by perennial flower gardens and an organic vegetable garden. There is no internet or wifi at the tipi, but it is available at the house. There is no television and cell service is poor to non existent. We do have a landline available for domestic calls. Guest AccessGuests have access to the tipi and bathroom building and are welcome to use the upstairs bathroom and shower, keeping in mind that there may be other guests renting rooms in the house. Guests are welcome to use the kitchen if you prefer to cook your own meals. There is limited space in the refrigerator, so bringing a cooler would be recommended. There is a gas grill that you are welcome to use. We are vegetarians and prefer that meat not be prepared unless you bring your own pans for cooking and take all meat waste and packaging with you when you leave and clean the grill after cooking. Interaction with GuestsGuests are warmly welcomed to our magical land and tipi experience. We will offer simple self serve breakfast items at the house, and will most likely be in residence during your stay. You are welcome to come and go as you please, and we are happy to share conversation and breakfast with you, or you can maintain less interaction and more privacy as you prefer. Other Things to NoteThe tipi will be equipped with wood and kindling for small fires in the fire pit. Water will be available for dousing your fire before retiring for the night. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on our land or in the tipi or house. LGBTQ friendly!
