A WONDERFUL OLD FARMHOUSE, for all the people who would like to feel what it is like to live on a Karoo-farm in South Africa, in the arid Karoo, for a little while.
The farmhouse is situated in the MOST QUIET AREA IN THE COUNTRY - right nextdoor to the SKA-reserve, and will provide a technology-free adventure, and excellent, quality time to experience with your family, kids and friends.
In the middle of the arid, dry Karoo, take the gravel road, R361, 60km out of Carnarvon. Self catering, no electricity, 90% of the time there will be enough water, otherwise you have piggy-day, good sleeping, good visiting, peace, SILENCE, fresh air.
It is primitive and without fuss, and truly a beautiful part of the Northern Cape, with thousands of stars in the nightsky, and other than that only wide open spaces.
The farmhouse sleeps ten to fifteen people, with two double beds, ten single beds, three showers, three toilets, one bath.
We provide bedding and towels. The kitchen has a gas stove, and gas refrigerator with freezing apartment. Paraffin lamps provide for farm ambiance, and gas geysers for hot water.
Outside there is an Asbosskerm with a barbecue facility.
Delicious Karoo-lamb and wood can be provided, please arrange this with your hosts.
The farmhouse has a fireplace to kuier in front of;
a diningroom table to kuier around;
an asbosskerm to kuier in; a front stoep to kuier on. ('kuier' is the Afrikaans word for having a good time!)
Karooveld with karoo-bush and iron rocks, sheep, cattle, boerbokke, springbuck, insects, reptiles, birds, miles and miles of blue sky and open space.
Springbok, blesbok, and various small game species such as steenbok, carracals, mongoose, ant bear, jackal, porcupine, rabbits and hares are animals indigenous to this area.
Excellent birding on the farm -- various birds of prey to be spotted.
Endless hiking opportunities on 5000 hectares -- in Karoo-scrub and succulent bush veld, mountain areas with huge, beautiful quiver trees, Karoo-hills with beautiful ironstone.
Jagersberg is a working sheep farm, and guests are welcome to join in any of the farming activities.
Jagersberg offers unforgettable sunrises and sunsets -- and your hosts will show you where the best spots are to experience these to the full.
Jagersberg also has ethical hunting for the whole family; camping, San -rock art, hiking and exceptional night skies for stargazing -- this is really open sky country! Bring your mountain-bike for great farm- road biking.
