The SpaceThe Reef Beach Huts offers cheap & cheerful, simple accommodation in four rooms located within a courtyard under the sea grape trees, on the roadside of The Reef Beach Cafe & Restaurant, at Sandy Beach. From the courtyard, you are only about 30 steps from the beach, and 70 from the ocean. The rooms are secure, they measure 4x4 meters (12 x 12 ft), each room has its own shower and toilet and you can get two single beds or one double (140cm wide). There is no air-conditioning, but all rooms have electric fans. There is a kettle to make hot drinks but no fridge. There is free wireless internet which reaches into the rooms also. A single room at The Reef is US$62/night, double US$74, and that includes all tax and full breakfast on the beach (fresh fruits, tea/coffee, juice, french baguette, eggs, jam, etc).
The Reef is located at Sandy Beach in Vieux Fort, in the south of St Lucia. It is a reef-enclosed bay with steady cross-shore winds from the left. At The Reef Kite + Surf, we offer wind- and kite surfing lessons, rentals and storage packages. We also have Stand-Up Paddle Boards and sit-on top kayaks. If you bring your own kite surfing gear and stay in a Reef Beach Hut, please note that KiteEazy is obligatory.
The Reef is just a few minutes away from Hewanorra International Airport UVF).
We also run The Reef Beach Cafe & Restaurant (open 7 days per week, 8am - 10pm, Mondays until 6pm), with a nicely varied menu of Creole and international (sea)food, a range of fast foods (including home made pizza), fresh milkshakes, cappuccinos, cold beers and hot cocktails, at prices as low as we can keep them, making The Reef affordable to both locals and visitors and making it a really nice spot for non-surfing friends & family as well.
Just kick back and relax! Guest AccessBeach, beach, beach, and the sea, of course. You have your own bedroom and bathroom, and access to The Reef Beach Cafe and The Reef's wind- and kite surfing centre. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as you like. I pop in at The Reef every day, and of course our staff are there all day, every day, from 8am till 10pm, and they're happy to chat if you like to chat, and happy to leave you in peace if that's what you prefer. The NeighborhoodAt The Reef, we are active participants in the Pointe Sable Environmental Protected Area (PSEPA): an initiative of regional and international environmental organizations, spearheaded bu the Saint Lucia National Trust (who run an office next-door to us). The PSEPA is home to one of the rarest species of animal on the planet (the Saint Lucia Racer), as well as a range of sustainable livelihoods, including seamoss farming, charcoal making, horseback riding, fishing, and non-motorized watersports (particularly wind- and kitesurfing). The Reef is also involved with the Vieux Fort Children's Society, the St Lucia Animal Protection Society and the Vieux Fort Horsemen Fund. Getting AroundWe are right on the main road from Vieux Fort to the international airport / Castries, so all you have to do is stand by the road and wave down a local bus. In any case, we're less than 1 mile out of Vieux Fort town: a 20 minute easy walk, half of it along the beach. And taxis are always easily available as well. An airport taxi is about US$10. There is plenty free parking space around The Reef also. Other Things to NoteThe south of St Lucia is 'the Original Caribbean'. It is not at all a tourist trap, yet there is plenty to see and do, and also plenty scope for some good old down-time. Sandy Beach is a gorgeous bay, with the two Maria Islands just 1 km off-shore: part of the Pointe Sable Protected Area, and home to one of the rarest species of animal on the planet. There is horse back riding in the mangroves and along the beach, terrific hiking in the rain forest, and great wind- and kite surfing of course.
