The SpaceThe lodging is the entire ground floor of a private residence on a 40-acre property. The guest rooms include a large den with a wood-burning fireplace, a bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a bathroom with a shower, and a kitchenette. The kitchenette has a microwave, a refrigerator, a hot plate, a toaster oven, dishes, silverware, and pots and pans. It is a very cozy and beautiful space, and decorated for the nature lovers who love to escape here! Guest AccessWood Thrush Ridge is 50 miles from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are also close to the Cherokee National Forest and the Cherohala Skyway.
The lodging is the entire ground floor of a private residence, with separate parking and a separate entrance.
The 40-acre grounds are open to guests, but we are high up on a steeply slopped forest, making walking strenuous. For the physically fit, there is a beautiful stroll down to our private 9-acre lake, but walking back up to the house is a climb! Interaction with GuestsI am available at any time I am needed, for questions or help or advice about the area. I have lived in this area since 1989, so I can direct you to anything you want to do and anywhere you want to go!
I live upstairs, so I am at most times readily available for any questions or needs. I love to greet my guests, but then I leave them to their privacy, unless I am called upon for anything my guests may need.
Since I do live upstairs, guests do hear the feet of people and dogs walking around, but we all go to bed very early! :)
I do not cook a breakfast, but will provide healthy and mostly organic breakfast foods in the kitchenette, such as cereals, oatmeal, yogurts, and fruit. The NeighborhoodWood Thrush Ridge is in a very rural setting, and is 10-15 miles away from any major shopping.
The downtown area of Greenback is two miles away, and has a diner that is open for breakfast and lunch. There is also a beautiful store called The Home Decor Resale Store that sells painted and second-hand furniture and home decor, and is a must see! Other Things to NoteI used to work in dog rescue, resulting in 8 dogs living here! If you do not love dogs or the sounds they sometimes make, this place will not be for you. :( They are the best security system and precious company, and my dog-loving guests feel like they've found heaven! But they do bark when they feel they need to, and although it is not excessive barking, it still happens. 5 of the 8 dogs are seniors, so the "too many dogs" problem won't last forever, but their home is here for the rest of their lives. I just want to fill everyone in on that aspect of Wood Thrush Ridge!
There is a heavy gate at the entrance to the property that requires opening and closing. It is on a track, and must be rolled open, and rolled closed behind you. It takes some effort to physically move the gate, so this property may not be suitable for the frail.
So, to recap the down sides of Wood Thrush Ridge:
* No TV, cable, satellite, computer or internet.
* 8 dogs.
* Heavy gate to roll open and closed.
If those three things don't scare you off, then come and stay, you will love it!
