    This is a family holiday home that we are happy to share. It is located in the historic village of Waikino situated in the beautiful Karangahake gorge. The house is very comfortable and roomy so up to 11 people staying will find enough space to be quiet as well as interact and entertain if company is required. If you are a large family or group the whole house is available for your use at the nightly rate stated. If you would like the cabin or a room the cost will be less, please enquire. There are numerous bush walks and mountain hikes up the slopes of Mt's Karangahake and Mt Te Aroha. Relax in the hot pools in Te Aroha. Surf at Waihi beach and swim the cool waters at Dickey Flats. Walk through the tunnel to reach a beautiful waterfall and swimming pool on the river. Immerse yourself in the historic past of this goldmining area. The goldfields historic railway is just minutes from the house. Using steam and diesel, this vintage train makes a one-hour 6.5km trip from Waihi to Waikino and back. There are trains Mon-Fri at 10am, 11.45am and 1.45pm, and everyday during school holidays and throughout Jan and Feb. Historic Victoria Battery, just 10 mins walk from the house, was the largest quartz-crushing plant in Australasia with underground ore kilns and tunnels. Ohinemuri Estate Winery on Moresby Street in Karangahake, the winery is open daily in summer. Play on the front lawn or just chill on the deck with a good book. Enjoy the garden and you are allowed to pull out the odd weed. Location is on the brow of a small hill looking north east. You will need a car to get here and travel to the many attractions in the area. The cycle track passes Waikino just minutes from the house. Our family bikes are often available for your use but we need advance notice. Note NZ law requires helmets to be used by cyclists at all times.

    The SpaceThis holiday home consists of a large 3 bedroom home that sleeps 9 in comfortable beds with 2 extra beds on the mezzanine for those extra people. The house maybe booked or if there is a smaller number you may book individual rooms for a reduced cost. Often you will have the house to yourself anyway as I am respectfulof people requiring their own space. There are 2 small cosy cabins which are separate from the house and they have an outdoor shower and outdoor toilet. The NeighborhoodWaikino is very quiet with very scenic views. Cool neighbours. Getting AroundA car is required as we are a little haven tucked in the hills.

Bring your pets and eat the herbs and vegetables from the organic garden. You could get creative, play the guitar, write your book , try some artwork or simply read a book in a very quiet corner of the world. If you feel active you can ride the rail trail, take a hike or explore the historic reserves in the area. At night you might take a short walk with a torch and check out the glow worms and perhaps stroll down the hill for a pint at the local..                   This cottage has the ambiance due to the nature of its furnishing with antiqe furniture, and the fact that the kitchen, although small, is well equipped. Enjoy the historical nature of this area or the physical activities available. A short trip to waihi beach for swimming or shopping for antiques in Paeroa. Drive through to Thames or over the hill to the Coromandal. Mackay town stands at the beginning of the Rahu valley and a visit to Bullswool farm park is thoroughly recommended. This area is full of goldmining history and a visit to both museums at Waihi and Paeroa are also recommend.                       Visit the stunning Karangahake Gorge, our bach is located in Waikino only a few minutes walk across the swing bridge to the Hauraki Rail Trail, historic gold mining sites and miniature train. We are nestled above the iconic Waikino Tavern, so after your day exploring the area you can grab a drink, a meal and relax! Waikino is located half way between Paeroa and Waihi, close enough to easily pop into town to explore the antique shops and art galleries or head down to the beach for some time in the sun. The bach itself has four double rooms and a bunk room and there are an additional three double rooms and a bunk room in two separate buildings available for larger groups or individual hire. Please note: the bach is over 130 years old (it used to be a miner's boarding house), it has been renovated internally but it's still an old structure with the associated quirks and is very much a 'kiwi' family bach not a new building. Special conditions: Deck is not fenced so not suitable for unsupervised children. If you haven't booked all the accommodation the shearers quarters andamp; baby barn may be rented separately. Our 6 metre yurt style is modern retro, bohemian and quirky - a unique glamping experience. Staying in a yurt is a beautiful experience, you will feel so at home amongst nature. We have 10 hectares of meadows and native bush, and we invite you to be a part of our solar powered, earth loving lifestyle. The yurt includes a super king size bed, a queen size sofa bed and then mattresses that we can pull out for kids/ guests. The beautiful, sustainably built bathroom is off the deck and includes a compost toilet (please follow the rules of use) and hot shower. See photos if you aren't too sure about "compost toilet" hehe. Self-contained, covered kitchenette with everything you need minus a fridge. (We provide a cool box and ice!) You will get a key to our back gate which takes you immediately on to Conservation land and the many beautiful walks of the Karangahake Gorge, and even the Kaimai Ranges if you are keen for a real mission! Sit out on the deck and watch the sunset on the mountain, watch the galaxy of stars appear over your head as the native ruru and glowworms make an appearance. This is especially suitable for families as we are a family run farm with lots of kids! However we do ask you to keep an eye on your little ones as this is a working farm and we wouldn't want any tiny little ones exploring right off the side of the deck! Interaction with GuestsThis guest yurt is 15 metres away from our big yurt which is our home, so we are on hand to help you out if you need us - however, more than happy to leave you in peace! If we are around and you have children we would love to take you on the farm rounds to feed the ducks and collect the eggs and check on the calves and goats. We will point you in the right direction for the world famous tunnels, waterfalls and swimming spots. We will try and be sensitive to your needs and what you would like. The NeighborhoodOur eco farm stay is at the foor of Karangahake, on the Waitawheta River. We have bush walks and waterfalls and biking and hiking and swimming galore. Adventurers and people wanting to get in touch with nature will enjoy our busy working farm at this very popular summer spot. We are five minutes from the award winning Bistro with its incredible wood fired pizzas, and a 15 minute drive away from the two local towns, Paeroa and Waihi. The Karangahake Gorge is right at the foot of the Coromandel, from here you could do some great day trips up to Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cover. Or you might want to head to the local surf beaches, Waihi Beach or Whangamata or all the other family friendly activities such as the awesome Bullswool Farm just up the road. Getting AroundWe are far from public transport (right inbetween Waihi and Paeroa -twenty minutes from both) but we will try and be helpful with lifts if we can. If you are in NZ without transport please get in touch as we may be able to pick you up from Waihi or Paeroa. From here you can access the Hauraki Rail Trail (15 minute cycle or 5 minute drive) and all the walks around Karangahake Gorge. The Windows walk is 50 minutes through the Waitawheta Gorge and Mount Karangahake is 3 hours up and 2.5 down from our back gate! We have several swimming spots, jumping spots and waterfalls to choose from right here. Other Things to NoteWe have a kayak you can borrow for a little paddle in the river. We have a selection of basic bikes you can borrow- including a tandem bmx and mini half penny cycle! We have lots of little place to play, including a little fairy dell with painted mushroom seats, lots of rope swings, a slide that comes out of a tree and toys for the kids. WIFI is available for two hours each day - we will organise the times to suit you. We can charge laptops and other digital equipment during sunlight hours. If the meadows are muddy (after weeks of rain - not too likely in the summer!) we ask guests to park at the start of the meadow which leaves a 60 metre walk to the yurt.
