Port Waikato is found on the West Coast at the mouth of the Waikato River on beautiful Sunset Beach and an easy 35km drive from the Bombay Hills - imagine - just over an hour from Auckland and Hamilton! Enjoy the spectacular sunsets whilst sitting high on the dunes, the renowned surf, body surfing or boogie boarding. Paddle boarding is becoming popular too and all in a surf patrolled environment (seasonal). There is 3kms of beach for walking and running and miles of tracks through the sand dunes to explore. The kids love to board down the dunes and into the river! The fishing is great - either cast off the beach or try your luck in the river. There is the small wharf for the kids to fish from and the river for dinghy sailing or jet skiing. Best to get local knowledge first of any sand bars in the river. Sylvies Cafe at the beach is open breakfast to late afternoon and for some dinners in the season, or there are Takeaways from the Caravan at the Camp - we recommend the 'Whitebait Fritters' freshly caught in season. The small local store surprises with its inventory, however Tuakau and Pukekohe are max. 30 minutes away for any major supplies. 30 minutes away too are the fabulous glowworm Nikau Caves and they are a must visit. You can also enjoy their cafe built amongst the limestone outcrops. The latest addition to the Port is the new telecommunication tower so no problem with any of your devices! Of course you can always just relax and recharge in this totally natural environment. The Port - so near and yet so far away! Special conditions: This is a family bach and we would ask that is treated as you would your own home. Families are welcome and it is safe for children. Neighbours are friendly and accommodating however noise levels apply as elsewhere. Smoking allowed outside only.
