The SpacePolished concrete floors, solar-passive design and interiors echoing the groovy side of the 60s are hallmarks of this contemporary home. Built with a blend of new and recycled materials, this eco-conscious design is decorated with a collection of art, decore and artifacts sourced both locally and from all corners of the globe.
Life on this farm is divine. You’ll wake to the call of magpies and rosellas, breakfast overlooking a quilt of gorgeous rolling farmland and wander down to the beautiful Fish River to spot platypus. Along the way, look out for wombats and echidnas and a chorus of farm animals, including sheep and alpacas. As the sun sets, warm yourself by the fire pit under a blanket of stars and fall asleep with a deep sense of relaxation at the end of each day.
Skip to the local cafés for good coffee, a country pub for a traditional meal or head into Bathurst for gourmet delights and great shopping. Jenolan Caves are nearby, Mayfield Garden at Oberon is superb and the horse riding in Megalong Valley is great fun.

Take a trip to the Universal Eatery in Tarana for the best breakfast in the west! Interaction with GuestsOur aim is to offer you privacy so you can enjoy your stay and do it your way, and we'll stay out of your way! The NeighborhoodThe Village of O'Connell is an easy 20 minute drive to Australia's oldest inland settlement, Bathurst, which offers fabulous cafes and restaurants, an art gallery, many art studios, movie theatre and other good entertainment.
O'Connell is home to the historic O'Connell Pub and The Avenue Cafe. The O'Connell / Tarana / Oberon area has beautiful tourist drives and walks. The Fish River has several public picnic areas such as Flat Rock, however, why not just stay here and picnic in seclusion on your own stretch of Fish River at the bottom of the hill, right here.
From O'Connell, take an easy day trip to Jenolan or Abercrombie Caves or the majestic Kanangra Walls National Park. Check out the open days for Mayfield Garden which is the largest privately owned cold climate garden in the world ... and it's just 20 minutes up the road on the way to Oberon. Of course, there are also other beautiful towns which could provide a day trip - towns such as Orange, Hill End, Sofala or a big day out to one of the many cold climate wineries in the region who would welcome your custom.
ARE YOU A MOTOR SPORTS ENTHUSIAST?
If so, it's not necessary to tell you that Bathurst is home to the 'The Bathurst 1000', a 1,000-kilometre touring car race held annually at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst. Check out the racing calendar because there are too many events to mention here.
ARE YOU A WALKING ENTHUSIAST?
Too many National Parks to speak of in one sitting. In every direction is a walk which many would swear is better than the one in that direction!
ARE YOU A TOURING ENTHUSIAST .... VINTAGE CARS OR MOTORCYCLES?
Fish River Farm is located along one of the most frequented touring routes in the country. It really is 'THAT' beautiful here. It is quite usual to watch a fleet of 1970s Fords or Holdens slowly making their way up the hill to lunch at the Tarana Pub. Equally not unusual to see a passing by of 50 or more smart little MGBs or similar - such a sight! Every day many biking enthusiasts make their way in single file along the route. Why not break up the trip and stay overnight? Getting AroundThe Village of O'Connell doesn't offer any general public transport, hence you will need a vehicle. We offer our guests undercover parking for one vehicle.
O'Connell is approximately 2.5 hours from Sydney via the Great Western Highway or Bells Line of Road/Great Western Highway. You can reduce 20 minutes from your journey by turning off the Highway at Lithgow and taking the tourist drive past Lake Lyell - only recommended during daylight hours - a stunning drive and well worth it for the lovely landscape. Other Things to NoteFish River Farm is a 'working farm', however, we are not a 'farm stay'. The property is yours to wander and enjoy. Guests are asked to close any gates which they pass through to keep our sheep and alpacas from wandering.
