The King Mountain House is a secluded, modern, light-filled mountain retreat with beautiful views of the Virginia Piedmont and the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is located in the heart of Rappahannock County, on the 375 acre Horseshoe Hollow Farm, near the historic village of Little Washington.
The King Mountain House is in Rappahannock County which is less than a two hour drive from Washington, DC, but it feels like another world. There are no traffic lights, traffic jams, chain restaurants or department stores. Instead, there are miles and miles of scenic county roads, organic farms, artist studios, wineries, unique shops and a variety of fine restaurants including the 5 star "The Inn at Little Washington". And then there's nature. Bright starry night skies and clear views of the Blue Ridge Mountains are the norm, as are the friendly faces.
The King Mountain House has 2.5 levels, with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 open living areas on 2 levels, 2 dining areas, 2 sunrooms, a sauna, kitchen, libraries and more. The living, dining and bedroom areas are spacious and attractively furnished. The fully equipped galley kitchen, with its updated appliances and ample storage, is a bright space to prepare fresh foods from local farms.
There are two outdoor living spaces that include a large sitting and eating deck off the main floor and large a heavy timber pergola with a stone patio off the lower level. A megalthic stone fire pit is off the patio.
The King Mountain House is 3-5 miles from rural villages that are known for their restaurants, cafes, vineyards, local theater, music festivals, galleries & shops. It is 15 minutes from the Skyline Drive and in the middle of Rappahannock's fox hunting country. Hiking, fishing, cycling, horseback riding and golfing opportunities abound.
The 375 acre Horseshoe Hollow Farm is also available for hunting, when in season, for an extra charge. Small hunting groups are welcome.

The house sleeps a maximum of 8. However, other than the 3 bedrooms, that includes a queen sized sofa bed in the living area on the main floor and 2 double sized futons in the lower level living area. Consequently, these sleeping sofa accommodations are not private and require sharing a bath. Children 3 and under are not charged as guests. There is an additional guests fee of $50/person/night over 6.

Rappahannock County's rural nature is inviting to cyclists and hikers. More serious hikers may be interested in Old Rag Mountain which is approximately 20 Miles from the King Mountain House.
Rappahannock County's recreation park and playground is 3 miles from the King Mountain House. The park caters to family gatherings and children. There is a basketball and tennis court, playground, skateboard park, a pavilion, picnic tables and outdoor grills. A stocked fly fishing stream and 9 hole golf course (to open in June 2015) is 5 miles from the house.
The King Mountain House is in the middle of Rappahannock's fox hunting country. The Old Dominion and Rappahannock Hunts welcome visitors to participate in hill topping and spectating. Horses and tack can be rented locally for trail rides with/without a guide.
