A gas station and fairly well-stocked grocery is also just 10 minutes away. Don't worry, we'll have maps and directions awaiting your arrival! Other Things to NoteWe have a landscaper who maintains the property. She is lovely and will not bother you, but if you are staying for a week or more, or during the week, it is likely you might notice her outside maintaining the plants and garden, especially during the spring and summer months. If you find this problematic, please let us know ahead of time. Also please note that some changes have been made to the house after most of the pictures were taken. We take safety very seriously and have spent a lot to make sure that everything is up to code, shoring up the deck and adding a handbar to the top of the deck railing, plus we added additional bars to the spiral staircase and built a new staircase which leads to the deck on the side of the house.

The SpaceOur home offers a lot of light, even on the rainy days, due to 7 skylights and numerous big windows throughout the house. We have a beautiful deck to drink coffee on in the morning or to eat dinner in the evening. The back patio is a comfy place to relax in the evening or to BBQ. In the winter, we always have a roaring fire in the wood stove. You can wander through the property, visit the goats and 68 chickens at the barn and we always have fresh eggs. Guest AccessAccess to living room, kitchen, dining room, deck, patio and the 5 acres we are on and your bedroom/bathroom. Interaction with GuestsAs often or as little as guests prefer! We do tend to retire pretty early. Sometimes we will be busy because of farm work but we can visit there, too! With the Washougal River just 1/2 mile from house for swimming, kayaking and fishing. Or the Columbia River is 7 miles away, offers even more activities. Cape Horn trail about 7 miles away, plus hiking in the Columbia Gorge is only 15+ miles away depending where you'd like to hike. We try to be responsible stewards of the earth by composting and recycling as much as possible. Also, by turning lights off in rooms not using and being thoughtful about water usage. The house is walking distance to The Columbia River and Washougal River, with lot of great trails nearby. There are also breweries, restaurants, grocery store, and convenience stores within walking distance of the house. It's 15 minutes from the PDX airport. Home is on a large lot with a patio, tree house, tiny house, big kitchen, and porch. Guests will have access to the entire 4 bedroom home, and optional access to the tree house and tiny house, for an additional fee. Ask about this, if you are interested. Washougal is much smaller and low key than Portland. We have more elbow room out here you might say. To get to the house from the airport, easiest way is to have or rent a car. If you need, you can take the Max Train from the airport to the Parkrose transit center, and then to the Vancouver Transit center off of 164th. From there you can take another bus into Washougal. The bus drops off on E Street, which is an easy walk to the house. Plan for at least an hour to get from the airport using public transportation. A cab will take 15 minutes from the house.

It is a short drive to a lot more restaurants, movie theater and stores. It is 30 minutes outside of downtown Portland. Access to the tree house is up a vertical ladder about 12 feet, so you must not be afraid of heights! This structure is well built, and sturdy, and is often slept in, but you must understand the inherent dangers associated with tree houses prior to your stay. This tree house is not suited for young kids. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the main 4 bedroom, 2 bath home, tree house, tiny house, back patio, 2-3 person soaking tub and sauna, porch swing, tree swing, and yard. The SpaceThis is a shared house with a hot tub, large back yard, and silly free range chickens. Guest AccessKitchen, full shared bathroom on main level plus half bath upstairs, living room with Roku, wifi, laundry room, large back yard. Interaction with GuestsI work full time with Fri-Sun off and am home half the time on weekends, depending on my plans. I also have other rooms I rent out with low key people who lead active lives and keep often keep to themselves. I offer a safe and peaceful home. Interaction between myself and between guests will be minimal to moderate unless you want more then we can plan to socialize and get to know each other. The NeighborhoodI live within a ten minute walk to the quaint downtown Washougal that hosts Amnesia Brewing, Hearth, Washougal Coffee Co and other bars and restaurants. You can also visit the Pendelton Woolen mill store while strolling around downtown. If you feel compelled to sing your heart out, then I'd recommend a five minute walk from my house to Los Dos II where you'll find an active cantina and karaoke with killer margaritas. There are many hikes within a short drive, such as Dougan Falls (18 miles up Washougal River Road); Lacamas Creek trail system (1.7 miles west from the house). Washougal is the gateway to the Washington side of the gorge, if you head east you'll find the stunning Cape Horn Trail Overlook (9 miles east on Hwy 14) and then the Cape Horn Trailhead (12 miles east) and the magnificent Beacon Rock (19 miles east) . While heading East on Hwy 14, you must stop and visit the obscure stone house (16 miles east). You can also take a leisurely float down Washougal River which is just about a mile away or go bask in the sun at Cottonwood Beach on the Columbia. The list goes on and on but this is a sampling of places you can explore. Then come home and take a soak in the hottub after your long day of adventuring while enjoying your favorite beverage. My home is ~15 minutes to Portland airport, ~25 minutes to downtown Portland. 1.5 hours to Hood River. If you decide to venture that far east, there are some wonderful wineries I'd recommend you stop and visit along the way. Getting AroundThere is public transit with a bus stop two houses down. Route #92 will take you Fisher's Landing where you can catch multiple other buses to get into Portland or explore Vancouver. Please note, the last bus back to Washougal leaves Fisher's Landing at 7:00 p.m. M-Sat. and 5:10 p.m. on Sunday, so if you venture out of Washougal on transit, you'll have to plan your return accordingly. Other Things to NoteI currently have two Airbnb rooms that I rent out in this home so there may be other guests around. Be sure to check out my other listing! Please note that this is an older home and like many homes in the PNW, there is no air conditioning. I have provided a window fan and recommend using it at night to cool the room down on warm summer days. Also please note that I'm in the slow process of a kitchen remodel so there may be minimal "dust" and remodel evidence. I won't be doing any serious work while guests are present. And lastly, I do live on the main road and there are traffic sounds. The train track is also near so you'll hear the occasional rumble as it passes but we're in a no-horn zone so there won't be any blasting train horn sounds. I find the rumbling train sounds peaceful. Some don't, so I want to mention it.
