Tranquil Lyrebird Cottage is located within the Barrington Tops National Park, a World Heritage National Park. The cottage sleeps seven people. It has a queen bed in the main bedroom, a double bunk bed with two more single beds, accommodating seven people. The gas heating is cosy in winter and fans cool the rooms in summer. The bathroom has a spa bath for relaxation after long bush walks or scenic drives through the National Park. Television and DVD player are there for evening entertainment. There is a refrigerator, plenty of bench space for food preparation, a microwave oven and a stovetop for cooking up a delicious country meal. Or there are barbecues conveniently located in the grounds for outdoor cooking. The verandah is a lovely place for a meal, or inside if you prefer. Lorikeets, King parrots, kookaburras visit the verandah and friendly wallabies and paddy melons hop around in the early morning and at dusk. It is quite common to encounter lyrebirds digging in the back garden, displacing carefully placed plants and ornaments. Lyrebird Cottage is close to bushwalks through huge Blue Gums and native plant life. A walk under the canopy to Crystal Pool is energising and a swim cools you down in summer. Or just climb over the rocks and find a spot to relax and watch life in the pool. There is a tennis court for more energetic guests and a covered barbecue area attached to the tennis courts. This is the special holiday rate for autumn and winter months. Usual price is $165. Barrington National Park is a World Heritage Listed National Park. The Wilderness Cottages and Lyrebird Cottage are located just inside the National Park at the very end of Salisbury Road, via DUNGOG. Along each side of Salisbury Road are small farms which were once Dairy Farms. Logging was one of the primary industries of the area. Small churches no longer in use as churches, dot the landscape. Two very small cemeteries are evidence of farming families who go back more than one hundred years. The Park itself has many wonderful walks from the front door of the cottage. There is the one to Rocky Crossing that is very popular. In summer you can have a swim in the many small waterholes on the way up and back. Or you can be 'dropped by car' at Rocky Crossing and just walk back. Crystal Pool is a ten minute walk from the cottage. It's a great way to cool down in summer, but a little too cold for swimming in winter. For artists and writers, the tranquillity of the area can be stimulating. In the cottage itself are original paintings, mostly landscapes from around the Australia and New Zealand region to whet the appetite of the artist. The abundant (but sometimes shy) wildlife is a drawcard. The constant chatter of rosellas, the presence of kookaburras and their weird sounds, the continual fossicking of the 'resident' lyrebird in the backyard ...all are fascinating to watch and to communicate with them is a rare experience in today's world, especially for the visitor from the city. Lyrebird Cottage, located at the end of Salisbury Road, within Barrington Tops National Park, is a thirty minute drive from Dungog where you can stock up on provisions. You pass farms and a few old churches, a legacy of earlier times. The fresh water pool located about 10 minutes walk from the cottage. Barbeque on verandah for convenience.

The SpaceMain bedroom has a king sized bed, second bedroom has a queen sized bed, both fitted with high quality linen for your absolute comfort. The third sleeping arrangement is the lounge, it folds out to a double sized bed. One guest told us she had never felt so relaxed and didn't want to leave!! We have various produce growing on the farm, whatever is seasonally available at the time and of course depending on our gardening skills, whatever we have available to share will be left in the cottage to either use throughout your stay or take home!! There is an outdoor setting, 2 burner bbq and firepit, all for use (in appropriate season for firepit) by the guests. Guests are welcome to pack a picnic to have within the cottage boundary (watch this space - picnic baskets will be available to purchase). Interaction with GuestsWe are a family of five and live on the property however we are well away from the cottage (about 200m). We like to greet guests on arrival so we ask guests to advise us when they have turned off the highway so we know when to expect you but other than that we like to give guests complete independence and privacy - after all, isn't that usually the reason to get away - to have some time out!! If guests require any information on the area, we are available and happy to help when we can. We like to keep abreast of any planned activities in the area and can let you know through pre-stay correspondence or when you arrive ie festivals, markets, shows etc. The NeighborhoodWith beaches just 30 mins away and rural experiences like the award winning Honeycomb Valley Farm, wineries and the gorgeous, quaint and ever-growing village of Nabiac all within 15 mins, the cottage offers high end accommodation in essentially a central location . For eating, Nabiac offers the Greenhouse Café, breakfast, lunch and anything in between, 7 days a week, at very reasonable prices, Nabiac Pub, serving lunches and dinners 7 days per week (pub also offers a courtesy bus Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights if you really feel like kicking back on your getaway!!), Magnolia Tea house, serving delightful light meals, cakes, slices, raw cakes (gluten free, sugar free, dairy free for those who are often feeling like they have no choices) and of course high tea (24 hours notice required - I can most certainly arrange that if you looking to have a real treat in Nabiac!!). For shopping in Nabiac, there are two vintage shops, a homewares shop, a craft shop, Op shop, general IGA store, post office, newsagent, two butchers, baker, chemist - so many to choose from !! For activities, Nabiac has a brand new FREE 25m public swimming pool, tennis court, park, skate park and even a Motorcycle Museum!! Krambach also only 10 mins has an old traditional pub, tennis courts, swimming pool and golf course!! And of course, Forster/Tuncurry has all the water side/beach side holiday destinations and activities. Whale and dolphin watching cruises on the gorgeous Wallis Lake, aqua golf, Tuncurry rock pool for the littlies is always lovely. New restaurants have opened - Hamiltons Oysters is a great place to sit and enjoy the serenity of Wallis Lake, it sits right on the water, very relaxing, The Sicilian Restaurant overlooks Forster beach and the extremely popular Beach Bums Café also overlooking Forster beach!! Any other activities such as golf courses, movie theatre, indoor swimming centre, ten pin bowling, hiking tracks, lookouts, markets etc area also available in Forster/Tuncurry. No need to limit yourself to water sports, beaches, farm visits (unless you run out of time of course!!) from possibly all the 'comforts' from home, Manning Entertainment Centre and Taree Performing Arts Council always have a calendar of events with live shows/concerts and performances. Take a peek at 'What's On' for the dates you are looking at staying, there could very well be something that takes your fancy!! The latest 'Mary Poppins' show has been hugely successful with rave reviews!! Check out the Great Lakes Visitors Centre and/or Taree Visitors Centre and/or Gloucester/Barrington Visitor Centres for any extra information that will assist you with making any additional plans. Getting AroundAs we are on a rural property, there is no public transport available direct from the property however our property is quite unique in its location, being 30 minute drive to beaches as well as a peaceful, rural setting - away from traffic and crowds so really the best of both worlds location!! Pindari cottage has rock and timber walls and inside there are warm pine timber walls and ceilings. A queen sized bedroom for mum and dad and an extended living area with two single beds is perfect for two children. The kitchen is well appointed with gas appliances and outside an under cover gas BBQ. Quality stainless steel cook ware is on hand plus all necessary kitchen bits and pieces. Leaf tea, tea bags, sugar, pepper and salt is supplied. There is a coffee plunger...just pop in the style of coffee you enjoy. Solar lights from a most efficient system see guests having lights when the Runciman's home has power black outs! Please note costing details refer to two persons for two night minimum. Check with owners for cost for more than two persons. The Fun of Campfire... An outside dedicated camp fire is the answer to enjoying sitting around after dark and enjoying yourselves under the stars. A gantry hangs the grill over the coals so a snag or two can be cooked there with the fat dripping directly on to the coals...healthy snags! There is a camp oven so for the adventurous camp cooks perhaps a stew (less chance of it burning on the bottom with that goodly dash of red wine in with the ingredients you use!) Dampers are often cooked...I might add , with mixed results. There is an art to cooking damper! Maybe google this before heading to Kalimna! As with the inside fire we supply more than adequate fire wood at no additional charge along with kindling wood and fire lighters. We appreciate the wood is not wasted...by all means use what you need but follow the direction sheet for the inside combustion heater as closing down the controls slows down the burning process but also does not see the need to open all windows and doors when it gets too hot! Topline Park Horse riding just four kms from here. Local attractions... Yeranda is 17 kilometres from Dungog where there are a few nice eateries...cafe style, pubs and clubs. Gloucester is an hours drive away with nice places for a meal or snack. Forest drives are certainly worthwhile with Jerusalem Creek not more than 20 minutes away. For those who wish to explore a little further there is Blue Gum Loop or Rocky Crossing on the southern side of the Barrington Tops National Park. This NP is huge so any chance of seeing "it all" would not be possible even if you had unlimited time. Depending on your level of fitness and desires you may wish to tackle Carey's Peak at 154m asl...it is a very challenging climb but if the weather is favourable then the rewards are there. Amazing views towards Newcastle but you must always keep in mind that the conditions can rapidly change and heavy fog and cloud can move in with the very real chance of becoming lost. Always go prepared. Another wonderful place to visit is the Mountaineer which is spot on 55 minutes drive from Yeranda. At a much higher elevation the area supports wonderful stands on antarctic beech trees and towering tree ferns. The lyre birds run through their mimicry and you will feel as if you are a million miles from anywhere! The Dungog Common is very close to town ans perfect for open walks or mountain biking. The Runcimans' are happy to give guests directions and you may wish for a NP brochure to be mailed to you prior to your visit so you can plan the outings you may wish to do. RATES Please note that $175 per night is the rate for a couple based on two nights accommodation. We provide a discount for longer stays and/or extra guests and children do not stay free of charge. Toddlers to twelve year olds stay for $20 per night and teenagers stay for $40 per night (discounted for longer stays). The Stayz rate calculator does not take this into account so the automatically generated quote sent by Stayz as a response to your enquiry will not be accurate. We will email you with an accurate quote.

Kalimna cottage has been welcoming guests for 20 years; some have been returning two and three times a year. Why does this happen? They KNOW the seclusion offered can allow them to totally chill out and escape the rush and bustle of their every day lives in an environment where they can enjoy nature...be they naturists or nature lovers! Kalimna was built of andesite rock and timber and has just one queen sized bedroom and an open kitchen and living room. The entire cottage was designed in keeping with the Australian Standards for those with mobility limitations. The bathroom is perfection for our wheelie mates with more than necessary space for wheelchair circulation and all grab rails to assist these guests. Being small Kalimna is very cosy in winter. It is fully insulated and the very efficient combustion heater is regularly commented upon. Being in a secluded part of Yeranda it was decided to set this cottage up to use solar power for lighting and gas appliances for all else. A gas fridge, hot water service and BBQ along with an elevated gas stove make it simple for everyone. There are many books on hand that work as a book exchange for any guests who wish to bring along a book they no longer want and swap for one (or several) from Kalimna's collection. The outside water dishes attract birds close to where guests sit on the verandah...we do ask that birds and animals not be fed but do enjoy watching them at the water dishes. (we cannot replicate their natural food and who knows what preservatives and salts are in bacon? Additionally birds that are hand fed become pests around the cottages.) Keep the water dishes topped up and you will be rewarded by the antics of birds bathing or drinking. A walks map will see you off and checking out the 140 acre property if you are a keen bush walker. Some tracks are easy whilst others are far more challenging and should only be tackled by the fit and agile! The Fun of a Camp Fire..during the cooler and safe months An outside dedicated camp fire is the answer to enjoying sitting around after dark and enjoying yourselves under the stars. A gantry hangs the grill over the coals so a snag or two can be cooked there with the fat dripping directly on to the coals...healthy snags! There is a camp oven so for the adventurous camp cooks perhaps a stew (less chance of it burning on the bottom with that goodly dash of red wine in with the ingredients you use!) We appreciate the wood is not wasted...by all means use what you need but follow the direction sheet for the inside combustion heater as closing down the controls slows down the burning process but also does not see the need to open all windows and doors when it gets too hot! Topline Park Horse riding is just four kms towards town from Kalimna. Great places to explore close by... The Dungog Common is very close to town and perfect for open walks or mountain biking. Elouera cottage is a three bedroom rock and timber cottage nestled amongst tall grey gums and iron barks. It is a true home away from home with all the comforts anyone could possibly want. An extremely well set up kitchen and an under cover gas BBQ make food preparation simple. A ceramic top stove with fan forced oven, a micro wave, large fridge / freezer makes it ideal for groups of up to 6 people. It is preferably an adults cottage but older children or babies are welcome. Elouera can cater for those with mobility limitations and a bathroom with a hobless shower and grab rails for the toilet make life easier for these folk. The verandah is an ideal place for our wheelie friends to enjoy the view or watch the many little birds that flit around. The lofty grey gums are beautiful all the year round but additionally so when they shed their bark to reveal stunning orange new bark below the old. An extensive collection of books on shelves and in cupboards are available for our guests to swap or just feel comfortable taking...bring a book you have read and swap for several of those in the cottage. There is no TV reception but a DVD player with screen allows you to view movies should the weather be such that you just wish to chill out by the fire and relax. Of course the local bush walks beckon but in the evening you may be happy to watch a movie. Please be aware the costing is for two persons for minimum of two nights. Check with owners for the cost when there are more guests. Cosy, inviting winter fires... One of the draw cards of visiting Elouera during the cooler months is to enjoy not only the inside combustion heater's glow but to stoke up the camp fire outside and pretend you are off in the Aussie bush camping; then to return inside to a wonderful hot shower and a comfortable bed. There is a gantry with a grill so try cooking a snag over the coals or use a camp oven to try your luck for a hearty stew or a more challenging damper! There have been some good ones baked but a few failures too we have been told! Small (kindling) wood, fire lighters and heavier fire wood is supplied. We appreciate sensible use of this precious resource but do not charge extra for a generous supply of wood for each booking. Marshmallows, cooked outside of course, are hard to beat even for the "big" kids! Topline Park Horse riding is just four kms towards town from here. What to see locally.... Dungog is just 17 kilometres away and has some nice attractions. There are good eateries, pubs, clubs if you wish to skip cooking a meal. Depending on how long you are staying there are other places not too far away to explore. If the bush is your passion there are some lovely forest drives close by or further afield. Keep in mind the Barrington Tops is a vast National Park and could not be fully explored even if you had a month to spare! There are special places within easy driving distance from Elouera. Jerusalem Creek Track is about 20 minutes away and offers a pleasant downhill walk amongst subtropical rainforest and tall Tallowwoods, Sydney blue gums and Grey Gums. Lots of bird life and the possibility of spotting a lyre bird in it's natural environment. If you wanted to visit another magical area we can point you to Blue Gum Loop on the Williams River. Easy walking and wonderful forest to walk through. For the true adventurers ...Careys Peak is quite a challenge...need to be fit to tackle this 1544m peak and be aware at all times cloud cover can move in quickly with changing conditions setting in. Need to go prepared for this possibility. Another great place to visit is just 55minutes drive and will give the opportunity of walking amongst massive antarctic beech trees. The Mountaineer is easy to find and as well as the beech trees there are many huge tree ferns in the gullies. All very special and worth the experience. It is another great spot for those wanting to hear the amazing mimicry of the lyrebird! Also keep in mind Dungog is on the XPT line and is also the termination point of Citirail. Another means of getting here if you are unable to drive...don't let that stop you from visiting! RATES Please note that $175 per night is the rate for a couple based on two nights accommodation.
