The SpaceMy space is downstairs. You'll stay in my upstairs suite of rooms. For many years – even before the era of Airbnb – I've been hosting people from all over the world. In my Blue/Green Room, I host shorter-term guests (3-weeks or less). I often have a single long-term guest in my Yellow Room across the hall.
My large Tudor-style home was beautifully built by German craftsmen in 1936 and features the lovely oak woodwork, leaded glass windows, and wood floors typical of many Milwaukee buildings. I've decorated it with folk art from the many countries I've been fortunate to visit. Guest AccessYou are welcome to take a relaxing soak or vigorous swim in my indoor heated pool, when arranged ahead of time so that I can open the pool for you.
Your upstairs kitchenette contains a 2-burner hot plate, toaster oven, microwave, full-sized refrigerator, table and 4 chairs, pots, plates & silverware for 4, etc. Your bathroom includes a shower. I provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer.
There are two bedrooms upstairs, one with queen bed (Blue/Green BD), one with full bed (Yellow BD).
PLEASE NOTE: My bedrooms are rented out separately. If you are accompanied by another guest who does NOT share your bed, please book my 2nd room (Yellow BD).
When I have guests in both bedrooms, the kitchenette and bathroom are shared. (See my other room listed as Yellow BD etc.) Interaction with GuestsYour suite of rooms is upstairs in my single family home, so you walk through my living room to your stairs.
I work at home, so I'll be in my home office much of the time and out of your way. I never go upstairs when guests are in residence. I'll be here if you have questions or need something, but you can have all the privacy you want. If you are up for chatting, I'm most available after business hours.
Let me know if you wish to join me for a morning coffee or an evening chat to get an insider's view of the city and its attractions.
Hablo español y disfruto mucho de ser anfitrión de huéspedes latinoamericanos.
The one caveat: I have a cat. He is shy with guests and spends a lot of time either outdoors or in my sunroom, so will stay out of your way. But if you are allergic, this is probably not the place for you. The NeighborhoodMy leafy neighborhood is quiet, safe, and peaceful. It is very diverse and centrally located to downtown and the next door suburb of Wauwatosa. A wonderful neighborhood coffee shop, situated in an former Art Deco gas station, provides excellent coffee, pastries, and community just a short walk up my street. Getting AroundVarious city buses stop on my corner and within 7-8 blocks of my home in different directions. There is free overnight parking on my street for up to 3 nights. Register online or with a call into the automated system (I provide instructions). Guests with cars who stay longer than 3 nights must buy a city parking permit (also online) for $20. OR you can park in my locked garage (especially nice in our snowy winters) for $3/night with a $50 returnable security deposit (which helps "remind" my guests to return my garage door remote opener and house keys before departing :)
From the airport, taking a cab or Uber/Lyft costs around $25-30. (You can also get here by bus from the airport, but it's a long ride with transfers.) Other Things to NoteI appreciate guests who, when booking, let me know a little about themselves (for example, their occupation, reason for their trip to MKE). It helps me better understand the needs and feel more connected with those who will share my home.
