The SpaceWe designed and built this log cabin in 1999 after a trip to Norway and Sweden where we were inspired by the use of natural interior wood. Our intention was to have an aesthetic, simple, and peaceful retreat from our busy lives. Towards that end, the cabin has many windows, beautiful cherry floors, and unfinished wood walls so that it is filled with light and the lovely scent of new wood. It is uncluttered and furnished with a mix of old and new: an antique dining table and hutch share space with the modern (newly installed) kitchen with a propane stove and granite countertop. The full bathroom has a lovely antique tub and a hand-held shower. There is a small, private bedroom downstairs with a full bed, two twins beds in the loft and the futon sofa and chair each open into beds as well. Although the cabin is small (800 sq ft), the great room (with a wood stove) has a cathedral ceiling so that it feels much larger than it is. Both the great room and the bedroom open to a large deck with a gas grill. We are only 5 mins from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 10 min from Weaverville, and 20 mins from downtown Asheville – a wonderful city full of restaurants, music, and life. In the woods, on a south-facing slope, the cabin is private but not isolated as it is the only seasonal dwelling on 88 acres in a small “intentional” community of artists, retired professors, and professionals. This is the perfect zen retreat for a lone writer or even a small family looking for an escape to the mountains. (There's a nice little kids' area in the loft with a few books, games, art supplies, and toys.) The cabin has a nice little wood stove which you are welcome to use, as long as you're familiar with how to safely operate one. We recently installed a mini-split heat pump (controlled with a remote) that heats and air conditions the cabin. It uses much less energy and emits far less carbon dioxide than typical heating/cooling units. Please see "House Rules" for other important information! Guest AccessThere is good cell phone coverage, but no internet. Interaction with GuestsWe are very happy to interact extensively through Air B n B, separate email, text, cell talk, etc. We love helping guests enjoy their stay at the cabin and in Asheville. Guests are welcome to contact us at any time. We don't live at the cabin itself, so guests can enjoy privacy and solitude. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is situated in a small community of year-round homes. Very interesting people: artists, computer gurus, social workers, and more. Getting AroundNot really.

The SpaceMain level is fully handicap accessible, from the ramp at the entrance to cooking in the kitchen to taking a shower or doing laundry. This arts and crafts style home has all hardwood and tile floors on the main level with the master bedroom, bath and laundry. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes and pots and pans for all of your cooking needs. The gas fireplace is custom designed by a local artist and in the winter provides enough heat for the entire home. The 2nd level has two generous size bedrooms who share a jack and jill bathroom, each with their own toilet and sink and share a shower space. There are two desk areas in the home, one on each floor. This is a very quiet neighborhood that appears you are living in a park, rather than a small subdivision. This house sits on over an acre with the home of the owner. Shopping is 2-3 minutes away, grocery, liquor, drug store, several restaurants, retail shopping, art galleries and much more. Ziplining is just up the highway and Biltmore estate is south of us less than 15 miles away. Skiing is just north of us at Wolf Ridge. Several local cab company's service the area. I live next door and can assist you with most of your questions. I will provide light grocery shopping and dog walking for a fee. My mother is a REALTOR and has a large network of people at her finger tips. If I can't answer a question or help you with your travel plans, she will be able to for sure! We are collectors of local art, crafts and antiques and can assist you with the best places to shop and add to your collections. We aren't hikers but have information as to the best places to go and who to talk to about out door activities. Asheville hosts over 300 independent restaurants and we can give you a guide to help you choose the best places to dine, many within 5-10 min of here. We keep a variety of maps, events and things to do at the house. This will save you a trip to the local visitors center. It is like having your own private concierge! We look forward to hosting you on your next trip to Western North Carolina. We have added a Graco portable crib for guests traveling with infants. It is stored in one of the bedroom closets for your use. We also have two high chairs for your use. Access to the full house and the yard, the swing set, the fire pit, the entertaining areas and places for dogs to walk. They have access to the porch off of the front of their house also with a table for out door seating. If we are home, we sometimes see them as we are going back and forth to their cars, otherwise we never see each other. We text each other if issues arise. We will not stop by unless you invite us! We like to honor your privacy while you are there. Small private subdivision. Close to everything as far as shopping, PO, restaurants, grocery but yet you feel like you are out in the country. The neighbors are almost invisible due to the trees that we planted surrounding our property. On leasing, this is first come first serve for the space. We have held time frames open for guests in the past and then end up losing another paying guest. It is a business and we will rent the space to the first person who qualifies and will no longer hold a space open while someone makes a decision! From the airport it is almost a straight shot to the house. 26 miles door to door, highway I-26 West from the airport to our exit 18 Monticello road, then turn left, go across the bridge, take the first right on Ayers Rd, to Songbird lane on the right and then the third house on the right and you are there. Takes about 20-25 min depending on the traffic. If you have any special events happening and would like something waiting for you, we can offer that assistance to you. If we are in town prior to your stay, we try to leave you a welcome surprise upon arrival! If you need an earlier check in or a later check out, let us know. IF we don't have another guest close to your date, we will work with you on that. We are on well water with a full filtration system, if you are used to city water that has flouride in it, some people are not used to pure well water and may want to get bottled water to drink. We get our water tested on a regular basis, so it is probably safer than most city tap water! We have had issues with too many cars in the past so we are limiting guests to three cars, no exceptions, this is a home, not a parking lot and we can't have these cars all over the driveway and the yard. If you have a one day event, please let us know but there cannot be a continuous stream of cars all over the property. Guest AccessGuests have access to the full house Interaction with GuestsWe have little to no interaction unless they request it or need assistance with something. The NeighborhoodIt is a small neighborhood, great for walking yourself or you and your dog. Everyone knows each other, there are only 8 houses so it is safe and quiet. We also have easy access to the highway and downtown Weaverville. Grocery stores, Wal Mart, gas stations, all within 5 minutes of the house. Getting AroundNo public transit except for taxi and uber service Other Things to NoteWe just added a Keirug coffee pot so if you would like to bring your own pods, help yourself! We have a high chair and a portable crib that is stored in the master bedroom closet. Extra pillows and sheets are also in there if you need them.
