The SpaceElvenhome Farm and Cottage offer an eco-holiday experience, located close to the historic township of Deloraine. Hand built and cultivated for over twenty years, we are a Bio-Dynamic farm employing Permaculture design principles in both house and gardens. The farm showcases a diversity of environmentally sustainable living. Our unique self-contained cottage features bamboo floors and artisan crafted Blackwood windows. There are two bedrooms, comprising of a Queen bed suite and the second having comfortable twin bunks. The separate dining and living areas have a warm and spacious feel. A fully equipped kitchen is stocked with continental breakfast provisions and seasonal farm produce will be available for you to sample. A sun drenched patio is the perfect place to enjoy magnificent views and bird life. The farm is nestled into native bushland. The pre-existing clearing of five acres has been transformed into orchards, kitchen gardens, animal runs and structures for the home and visitor accommodation. A substantial orchard of fruits, nuts and berries, along with a vegetable garden, milking goats and laying hens provide plentiful supplies of produce year round. Within walking distance you will enjoy activities including swimming, fishing, bush walking and birdwatching. Farm Workshops in sustainable living are available daily. See website for details. Environmental Initiatives Elvenhome Farm and cottage have been designed according to an understanding of the need for harmony in the landscape and for the health and wellbeing of all its inhabitants. By drawing on architectural knowledge of the golden ratio in building design, and using the wisdoms of a feng shui master, the shape of the cottage began to take form. The cottage design allows for the use of recyclable and renewable building materials resourced in a sustainable manner. Local craftsmen and artists have collaborated to bring the vision into reality. Passive solar design and orientation contribute to a minimal need for heating and cooling systems. Solar energy was used throughout the building process to power all trade tools. It continues to be the main power source for the entire property. Extensive water harvesting is made possible with large rainwater storage tanks and a spring fed dam to supply all water needs. Composting toilets further reduce water consumption. All waste water is filtered on site for irrigation of perennial tree crops. With this in mind, all soaps, shampoos and detergents are environmentally friendly, as they are distributed back into the farm system. Hot water needs are provided for by a combustion stove in the main house and an instant gas hot water system in the cottage. Evacuated tubes will be installed in the near future to further reduce energy use and ultimately the carbon footprint . All recyclable materials are separated and distributed to the local recycling centre. Signage is in place to educate guests about the need for appropriate methods of recycling. Permaculture principles are incorporated throughout Elvenhome Farm. Importance has been given to the placement and relative location of many elements supporting one another. Available biological resources are used according to the energy cycling principle. For example, fruit trees produce apples that feed our guests. The apple waste is fed to the chickens and the apple tree prunings are fed to the goats. Both the chickens and goats produce eggs and milk, to nourish our guests, and manure for garden and orchard, therefore the energy cycle continues and forms a closed loop system. Over twenty years of observing the patterns and cycles of nature within the farm allow for continual improvement in its sustainable permanent agriculture. Bio-Dynamic practices are used for the health and wellbeing of the animals, plants and humans on Elvenhome Farm. Each season, Bio-Dynamic preparations are applied to enhance the farm system. 'As above, so below,' is a simple understanding of the greater natural forces at play in our everyday lives. The cottage is one component of the whole farm. It was primarily built for guests with a thirst for learning about an ecologically sustainable lifestyle. A series of structured workshops are available to guests while staying at Elvenhome farm. These include: Farm Tour A farm walk that demonstrates the Bio-Dynamic and permaculture design features of Elvenhome farm. Growing Healthy Vegetables Seasonal selections, crop rotation, companion planting and other ways to get the best out of your kitchen garden. Composting and Worm Farming Learn the art, science and mystery of creating lush compost and enlisting worms to revitalise your garden soil. Sustainable Building Design A Walking tour and explanation of the sustainable design features of Elvenhome Farm and cottage.

The SpaceThe Apartment block was formerly the pioneer hotel. During the busy days of copper mining, which due to a tragic accident has recently closed. It was let to the mine for use by it's FIFO workers. We purchased the unit with a lease from the mine, since the closure we have offered the unit to people traveling via AirBnb. Whilst the furnishings are a little dated, everything is clean and usable. I don't live in Queenstown and Gayle caretakes for us. She does a very impressive job of keeping the place clean. However if you find something that causes a problem please contact me, or if it needs immediate attention call Gayle. Both numbers are on the fridge. Guest AccessIt is a fully contained two bedroom unit. It has two beds in one bedroom and a queen size in the main Bedroom. All beds have electric blankets. You have a small kitchen with all utensils needed to cook a meal or heat in the microwave. There is a new 32" TV in the lounge room. Interaction with GuestsI'm sorry to say that unless I happen to be in Queenstown during your stay, it is unlikely we will meet. Gayle will provide you with the key. I will message you with her details, on the day of arrival. Otherwise the number won't show. The NeighborhoodQueenstown is a long way from anywhere really. Getting there from Hobart, or Launceston, will be a tiring drive as the roads are steep and very twisty. When you arrive you may well be tired, hopefully not too grumpy. You can't miss our block of units, on a 3 way intersection, very close to the wilderness railway. An easy walk to the "hustle and bustle" of downtown Queenstown. Getting AroundThere is very limited public transport. There is a large car park at the rear of the units, with undercover parking. Other Things to NotePlease note due to cleaning and washing needs. We need a minimum of 2 nights booking, thanks. As Gayle only cleans on an as needed, we don't leave perishable foodstuff. There are (or was) a few extras, sugar, and salt etc. Best idea for you though is to get grocery items before you come, as I think the local supermarket closes around seven, could be earlier in winter. You can get a reasonable meal at the Empire hotel.

Guests can go hiking on one of the many walking trails surrounding the property, including the 7 hour Mt Roland Summit Track. We host evening native wildlife walks onsite (subject to weather) to see brush tail possums, wallabies, owls and platypus. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire cabin, indoor heated pool, 162 acres of garden/farm/bushland as well as the historic silver mine. Farm rules apply: Guests must leave any farm gates they pass through the way they found them. The property adjoins 10,000 hectares of nature reserve with more than 30km of walking track. Guests are free to explore this and we are happy to provide pointers on how to navigate it. Interaction with GuestsWe (owners) live on the property and are generally available 8am-10am and 2pm-6pm. Outside these hours the owners are often available when tending to the property itself (feeding animals, replenishing firewood etc.). We are delighted to share our experiences and knowledge of the surroundings with guests to help them make the most of what is available in region, particularly less well known attractions. The NeighborhoodPictures tell a thousand words and we've provided just a sample of the surroundings we enjoy on a daily basis. Nearby Sheffield, The Town of Murals, offers a great range of restaurants and cafes for a town its size. Tasmania's Tasting Trail, showcasing the best of Tasmanian produce starts nearby and includes everything from Raspberries, Cherries, Cheese, Chocolate, Apple Ciders, Wineries, Breweries, Distilleries, Strawberries, Blackberries, Organic Produce and much more. Tasmazia, only a 15mins away, is the worlds largest outdoor hedge maze attraction, also featuring a miniature village, satirical embassy gardens and pancake parlour and is especially suitable for children up to 90+ years of age. The local Visitor's Gazette provides a great source of information on travelling Tasmania's Cradle Country which can be downloaded here: (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundTasmania is best travelled by car. Taxis are available in larger centres and bus services can get you between them, experiencing the real Tasmania of smaller townships and natural outdoors will require a car. Rental cars are available at all major airports of Devonport, Launceston and Hobart, as well as the cities themselves. Shops and restaurants in rural and regional areas close earlier than their city counterparts and driving after dark is not recommended due to the risk of animal strike. Other Things to NoteOur family has lived on the property for nearly 18 years and considers it a pleasure to offer recommendations and tips for traveling in the region. We are equally happy to leave guests to enjoy their own privacy and travel plans. We're only happy when you're happy.
