There are 2.5 acres with the cottage situated on a bluff at the water’s edge. Golf, Shopping and Great Restaurants close by. This house is on the Virginia Artisan Trail and the Virginia Oyster Trail and is featured in the book, "The Houses of Irvington: Architecture of an American Village." Conveniently located walking distance to almost everything that charming Irvington has to offer. Situated on a lovely half acre lot between the renowned five star Tides Inn Resort and the lovely Hope and Glory Inn, the Blue House offers privacy while just moments to it all! There is no public transportation per se, although there is a trolley in the summer months that runs between Irvington, Kilmarnock and White Stone. There is a two day minimum for bookings. Holidays and summer months may require a booking of at least three to four days. We do not rent to individuals/groups under the age of 24.       "Pop Castle" is a magnificent estate on the Rappahannock River, one mile from the Chesapeake Bay. It is a property entrenched in civil war history, listed on the National Registry of Historic Homes and a registered Virginia Historic Landmark. This 1855 house, flanked by two majestic Oak trees overlooking the two-mile wide Rappahannock River, offers expansive lawns, towering trees and a long sandy beach. Sit out on the screened porch and watch the osprey and the resident eagle go after their daily catch while the dolphins swim by. Relax in the hammock on the sandy shores of the river or go swimming, fishing, or crabbing off the 30 foot deck (two crab pots are available). This five bedroom historic home on twelve exquisite acres with hundred year old magnolias and oaks is fully furnished and equipped with WiFi, cable, bikes, outdoor games and a ping pong table. With the wood paneled living room with fireplace, comfortable TV room with fireplace, formal dining room with fireplace, sunroom with a large bay window overlooking the river, a large and bright kitchen with adjoining windowed garden/laundry room, and a spectacular 50 foot long porch opening directly to the wide treed lawn and the river, your family and friends will have plenty of space to share your valued time together. We had to re-upholster them, but were able to save mid-century modern furnishings, old pictures, old lamps, and many dishes from the era. Guest AccessThe entire downstairs, front and back porches, patio, and yard are open to you. More room available by special request. Interaction with GuestsA nearby friend is available if we call him. The NeighborhoodIt is a quiet neighborhood, with restaurants and grocery stores 10 minutes away. There are also wildlife preserves and state parks 20 minutes away, as well as historic sites. Our Small sand beach is a wonderful place for children to play and the shallow water is also ideal for wading and dip-net crabbing. This relaxing getaway on Carter Creek, is in the tidewater area near where the Rappahannock River joins Chesapeake Bay. Make sure you bring along your binoculars to watch the birds and boats. At night, this is a great location for star gazing, as we're far from the bright city lights. You can fish and swim off our dock and moor your boat (5' depth at end of dock at MLW), or pull your small boat up on the shore. While you are here you can visit historical sites, colonial churches, museums, old fishing villages and interesting antique and other shops. Marinas and charter fishing boats are also nearby, as well as golf courses & great restaurants. Sit out on the screened porch and watch the osprey and the resident eagle go after their daily catch while the dolphins swim by. Relax in the hammock on the sandy shores of the river or go swimming, fishing, or crabbing off the 30 foot deck (two crab pots are available). This five bedroom historic home on twelve exquisite acres with hundred year old magnolias and oaks is fully furnished and equipped with WiFi, cable, bikes, outdoor games and a ping pong table. Take scenic Windmill Point Road to The Pelican Tiki Bar and enjoy drinks and watch the sunset of the Chesapeake Bay. Kilmarnock, VA is about a seven minute drive.
