The SpaceStep back in time - stone and wooden floors, oak beams, massive fireplace and stone hearth. Unique, comfortable and restful - this is an escape from the modern world with enough space and options to accommodate 12 guests. The Barton house itself has 5 old-fashioned and good sized bedrooms and just one bathroom, with a basic shower and WC outside. By arrangement: the field is available for camping in summer and has composting loos and some long views out over the ocean. Guest AccessGuests will have the use of the house and garden. Use of the Camping Barn, commercial kitchen and camping field can be included by arrangement. Interaction with GuestsThere will be someone to greet you on arrival and to show you around. The NeighborhoodWelcombe is fantastic! - the trees & woods, the hidden lanes and footpaths, the sea, the surf, the most eclectic friendly pub - in the summer it is all luscious - verdant and burgeoning - wild flowers are abundant and lazy days can be whiled away at the beach lying on hot rocks or rockpooling for shrimps and crabs. In the winter it's all about long walks along the clifftops and up through wooded valleys - can you find Ravilious's crooked oak? - a roaring fire back at the Barton or Ale & fine wine at the 'Smithy'. There is a well stocked community shop about 2 miles away by the main road - please support our shop! Once you are here you can walk everywhere and with enough supplies in - you could leave the car where you first parked it! The beach is about a mile away and there are plenty of circular walks through the maze of lanes - the Smithy Inn is about half a mile - with the option of a fun footpath or secluded lane. Getting AroundWalk, cycle, hitch, run! The lanes can take some getting used to in a car. There is a bus stop at Welcombe Cross. Other Things to NoteThe Barton is somewhat crumbling - the kitchen is relatively small but connected to the living room. There is one bathroom & WC in the house. There are adequate showers and toilets in the outbuildings. It has been owned by a charity for the last 30 years offering land based learning opportunities. Plans are afoot to update and renovate the entire property 2015 -16.

The SpaceA green oak framed barn with wood burner, beautiful garden, and set in 18 acres of private land. Sleeps 2 with double bedroom, sitting/dining room, galley kitchen and shower room with power shower. The barn is situated in an AONB in North Devon and a short walk to the Atlantic coastline and the south west coast path. The magnificent beach is totally unspoilt and managed by the National Trust. A truly peaceful hideaway. No traffic, no street lights, no bustle, only the natural world and starry skies, fabulous sunsets and the sound of the sea to enjoy. You can walk, surf, swim, cycle, ride and fish by day and enjoy good pub grub at night if you don't want to cook. Welcome hamper on arrival. If you need to keep in touch with your work place or have access to the internet whilst you are on holiday with us we offer free Wi-Fi access and any help with connection. The buildings are constructed of local stone and the weather can get wild, and if the wireless signal is weak for any reason then we can offer office like facilities for short pre-arranged periods in the main house where we experience no difficulties. Guests have rarely had problems since we also provide a booster for the barn to maximise communications. We run our business from here without any difficulty and, therefore so can you. Guest AccessThe barn is self-contained with its own garden. Cranham House and barn are situated in 18 acres of land in a wooded valley near Welcombe, North Devon. It is our only self-catering barn and so privacy and peace are at a premium. Guests are free to relax and eat outside. Interaction with GuestsThe barn is an annexe to Cranham House and we are always available to help guests as little or as much as they desire. We value our own privacy and peace, that's why we live here. The NeighborhoodCranham House and coastal barn stands in its own setting in beautiful countryside, with woods and hills of outstanding natural beauty. It is a short walk from the garden (about 20 mins) to the beach at Welcombe Mouth on the North Devon/Cornwall coast. It is part of the parish of Hartland and Welcombe is just a valley away. Welcombe itself has a small fine church, great pub and a community run shop. The whole area is called the Hartland Peninsula and is just a network of green lanes, farms and tucked away houses with the Atlantic ocean an ever present influence on all our lives. The woods are carpeted with bluebells in Spring and the succession of wild flowers in Summer is breathtaking. The sense of space and freedom to roam along foot paths and on the magnificent stretches of the coastal path, (south to Morwenstow and Bude; north to Hartland Quay and Point), cannot be rivalled. Perhaps, it is only the Highlands of Scotland or the deep interior of Wales which can match it for a sense of British wilderness. The nearest towns are Bude (15 miles) and Bideford (20 miles). Clovelly is about 10 miles away and Hartland is 9 miles from us. The surfing beaches are too numerous to mention. Water sports of all kinds are available. There is an excellent riding stables near by and there are golf courses in Bude and Westward Ho! (the oldest links course in England). Cycling along the quiet green lanes of the area is a joy and virtually traffic free. Of course, there is always the option of doing nothing. Of sitting on the beach and completely chilling out with nothing more strenuous than a book and a picnic. Getting AroundPublic transport is not extensive. There is a bus service between Bude and Hartland each day although you would need to be taken to the picking up point at Welcombe Cross. If you come here to walk the coastal path we do offer lifts to starting points and pick ups at the end of the day as well as luggage transfer on to your next destination after your visit with us (a minimum of 3 nights). Foreign guests can fly in to the nearest airport at Bristol and hire a car to get to us. There is a very detailed description of how to get to us on the website. Other Things to NoteIf, like us, you appreciate peace and quiet and the joys of natural beauty then this is the place for you. Don't come if a daily shopping fix is your thing. The landscape is glorious. The sea is magnificent. And, the welcome will be warm.
