The SpaceWelcome to your home away from home! Most of our photos are Airbnb Verified. We had the great fortune to have an Airbnb photographer take photos of our suite and property(URL HIDDEN) Discounts for month long stays from January through March will be considered on an individual basis subject to pre approval. Our efficiency style two room 488 square foot (45 sq meters) suite with private entrance and private shower bath is new, bright, airy (lots of windows and high ceilings), well-insulated and very inviting! Lovely views of the water from our property! You won't find a better value in Harpswell. Our suite with indoor gas fireplace in the bedroom is cozy and warm for the winter months. We want you to be happy, so please feel free to request anything that might make your stay more enjoyable. Coffee, tea, coffee filters, cream and basic seasonings provided. Please note that we don't have a full kitchen, but we have many small appliances and a kitchen sink, so you can get by fairly well with the cookware provided. Our efficiency kitchenette consists of a refrigerator, upright freezer, kitchen sink, microwave, convection toaster oven, two coffeemakers (single serve and with coffee pot), a single state of the art induction cooktop hotplate, an electric wok, pots and pans, cooking utensils, silverware, etc. The suite has a vented propane heater with flaming logs of a woodstove that will keep you toasty warm and provide ambiance. There is a queen size bed in the bedroom and a pullout queen size couch in the living room. We also have a narrow child size single rollaway bed available for your use. (needs to be requested in advance) Both rooms have cathedral ceilings and ceiling fans. The living area has rough-hewn beams that are original to the house. The living room area has skylights, a 42 in HDTV with expanded cable including movie channels such as HBO. Also Netflix and a dvd player (there are some dvds in the suite and many other dvds readily available -just ask). RedBox is at several locations close by. We offer wifi and an ethernet "hard wire" adapter for NetFlix or for connecting a laptop. The living and dining area has an A/C window unit and a table with four chairs. Outdoors (summer season only) we have a small communal gas grill and a large shared charcoal grill. (but no supplies for charcoal grill). Our suite is best suited to those who want to try out some of the numerous local restaurants in addition to eating in for a few simple meals. Floor length drapes provide some privacy between the bedroom and the living room. Realistically our suite is most ideal for a couple, however a family with one teenager or a small child should be comfortable. The suite is adjoining our home and is separated by a wall from our kitchen. The private entrance and the bedroom part of the suite are at the very back of our house. We ask that you conserve water since we have a well - great drinking water! No need to buy bottled water! No chlorine! We usually make muffins (regular or gluten-free) for our guests at some time during your stay, but we can't guarantee this. Two supermarkets are just up the road (7 minute drive - Shaw's or Walmart), so you can easily get provisions for your stay. Zach's store (2 minute drive) has an excellent selection of wine, beer, liquor, pizza and some groceries. If you want a big breakfast, we will be happy to recommend one of the local breakfast spots. And please - let us know if you need anything! We are happy to oblige! Please note that our schedules may take us away from our home at times, so we will leave instructions for entering the attached suite and be available by cellphone if you have any questions or concerns. If you need to use the pullout couch or the rollaway, please let us know in advance and we will get them ready for you. As an aside, please note that we are on a busy main road, but the suite is at the back of our house away from the road, so there is very little road noise. Our house sits on a two acre piece of property in an extremely convenient location for heading out on adventures - in this case, living on a main road is a perk. We are less than 20 minutes from several small beaches and about 30 minutes from two state park beaches. There is plenty to do year round! If you have kayaks or bicycles, bring them along! There are many public boat launches in the area and some good areas for bicycling as well, particularly the nearby former Navy base. There are also kayak rentals and arranged kayak tours available as well as sailboat, schooner, ferry and charter boat tours. Guest AccessGuests have access via their own entrance to a private attached suite with sun deck and gravel parking area. Please park in the gravel area in front of the entrance of the suite (near the fish sign) during your stay. As our guests, you can also walk around to the shared outdoor patio area with both a charcoal and a gas grill and feel free to walk anywhere outdoors on our property including across the road to our little sitting space and tidal waterfront property (see photos - marked private property). We will gladly provide a small propane grill for your use upon request. We also have pretty much everything you might need. If you are interested in a lobster dinner, you can order fresh cooked lobster and tasty seafood year- round just up the road over the bridge at Gurnet Trading Company (BYOB or buy there, outdoor and small indoor seating area). If a full kitchen isn't a priority for you, then you will find that you will have almost all the comforts of home and very easy access to many restaurants and several grocery stores. IMPORTANT: For liability reasons, please note that we do not provide canoes, kayaks or bicycles. There are several companies that rent kayaks and paddleboards and they also offer kayaking/paddleboarding trips. Interaction with GuestsWe will most likely be available at some point during your stay to meet you, but if not, we will be readily available by cellphone to answer any questions you have. We will be happy to tell you about the local attractions, values and best kept secrets and visit with you in the common area outdoors, however we will also respect your privacy if that is your wish. We have three cats and a dog. They are not allowed in the guest suite, but you may see them or visit with them if we socialize in our screened porch. We really enjoy conversing and interacting with our guests if that is your wish, so please don't hesitate to ask us if you need to borrow anything and let us know if something isn't working properly or if there is anything that we can do to improve the suite or make your stay more enjoyable. Your satisfaction is very important to us! Always remember - if you need anything, just ask! The NeighborhoodThis area is alive and thriving all year long! Brunswick is a college town, so there's plenty to do here - lots of restaurants, several museums and beaches and trails that you can walk along every day of the year. We love our town! Harpswell (population 5,000 but definitely a little bigger in the summer) has more coastline than any other town on the East coast - 216 miles in all!! We are literally surrounded by saltwater here. We are directly across the road from the New Meadows River. This saltwater river goes out to Casco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our home is located midway between the fun and charming town of Brunswick and the city of Bath (The City of Ships, voted "best main street" recently) We are on Great Island in Harpswell on the way to Orr's Island and Bailey Island (all part of Harpswell). Eat out in one of our local ethnic, seafood or American unique or chain restaurants, visit the Bowdoin College campus, take in a show at Maine State Music Theatre, attend a summer music concert, do some yoga or zumba at a local studio, or drive and explore the coast. The possibilities are endless. This area is a year-round destination for enjoying Maine hospitality and scenery. Grocery stores and many shops and restaurants are within 5 to 15 minutes by car. There is a highly rated year round "seafood shack" (byob or buy beer and wine) with takeout and a country store with an excellent beer, wine and alcohol selection just about 2 minutes away by car. Our location is a wonderful gateway to fun and exploration! This area is ideal for those who want to kayak, bicycle or go on leisurely hikes. Bring your kayaks, bicycles, bathing suit and walking shoes! Kayak tours offered in the area with all gear provided or you can rent kayaks and explore on your own. Harpswell and the neighboring towns of Topsham, Bath and Brunswick have many nature preserves, hiking trails, public boat launches, a riverfront bicycle trail, river and ocean views and walks. What's really great is that many of the natural scenery can be enjoyed for free - so you can plan a whole day for only the cost of your food - brown bag it, get takeout, or dine in a restaurant. There are 184 restaurants in total in the towns of Harpswell, Brunswick, Bath and Topsham according to TripAdvisor. For nature enthusiasts, get a taste of what you can see by going to the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust website. Brunswick also has Bowdoin College with Maine State Music Theatre and the International Music Festival throughout the summer. Bowdoin College also has two museums (an Arctic and an art museum) and the Chamberlain House Museum is just across the street. Bowdoin often has events and performances that are open to the public. So much to do -consignment store shopping, watching a movie at the nearby feature film movie theater or the independent movie theater or dinner and a film option at the Frontier cafe. There are three movie theaters in Brunswick - one that shows feature films is just up the road! We are just off Route 1, so we're in a great location to explore Midcoast Maine for day trips. Visit Rockland/Camden/Rockport, Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta all within an hour and 20 minutes or less drive. Intriguing Portland (with a tremendous number of restaurants, bars, museums, etc.) is an easy 35 minute drive. Augusta, Maine's capitol city, is also about 40 minutes away. Take a noontime scenic cruise of Casco Bay just down the road from us on Bailey Island. USA's #1 voted favorite place (according to Good Morning America 2014 poll) Acadia National Park is a three hour drive. Also if you are checking out Bowdoin College for your son or daughter or attending a reunion, we are less than a 15 minute drive from the campus. We have a whole basket filled with brochures, so you can put off the planning until you arrive and then comfortably explore the area. All of our guests have used our Harpswell Heritage Land Trust brochure with a map, description and directions to some amazingly beautiful places that require only an easy hike or drive to visit. There is also a small indoor heated pool (no hot tub) and fitness center at a hotel just up the road. You can purchase a pass for unlimited use for a day or a week. Getting AroundThere is no public transit to our home, so a car is a necessity and exploring the area by car will make your visit all the more memorable. Once you get here, you will find that the driving is very easy and relaxing- especially in Harpswell! The Amtrak train and the bus from Boston stop in Brunswick (15 minutes away by car). Car rental is an option. The Portland airport is 45 minutes by car or taxi. There is a bus from Portland to Brunswick, but taxi transport would need to be arranged from the airport to the bus terminal in Portland. Other Things to NotePlease note that subject to availability we prefer three night minimum rental requests for holiday weekends such as Labor Day, Columbus Day (October), Memorial Day. Also before you inquire about renting our suite, place make sure to set up a profile with Airbnb and tell us a little about yourself when you send us your inquiry. We're sort of picky about knowing a little about you and we want to see your photo and that you have taken the time to write a brief narrative about yourself before we will consider having you as a guest. We will leave some brochures in the suite about places to visit in the area . In addition, we will be happy to give you suggestions in person or by email/cellphone when possible. Maine has a 9% lodging tax. We have included this tax (normally paid by guests) in our price, so we will not ask you to pay it upon arrival. Therefore we don't have much "wiggle room" for making special offers in most cases.

The SpaceAs you drive down the private association road toward our Three Island View house, you'll see why you'll enjoy your stay. The view of the New Meadows River opens before you. ('River' is a misnomer; it's an 'embayment' or extension of Casco Bay.) Once inside, the chalet-style house’s open feel directs you to these extensive ocean water views, and you’ll spend much of your time on the large wrap-around deck with both gas and charcoal grills. The spectacular sunrises from the house will invite you to be an early riser (though they're best in the fall and spring). Set on two private acres with a large yard and over 300 feet of owned oceanwater frontage, the house looks out to a tidal basin replete with bird life - and clams to be dug for dinner (permit needed). Herons, osprey, wild turkeys, and even a pair of pileated woodpeckers are visitors to the yard. We've watched bald eagles circle overhead. Lobster boats lie in constant view from the house. Your morning coffee from our deck will be extra special. At the end of the road, maybe a 3-minute walk, is the Association dock from which you can launch a canoe or kayak to explore the coves of the area -- or just get lost in the moment. Three miles to the south is the quaint, picturesque, working fishing village of Cundy's Harbor with its lobster pounds, small shops and Holbrooks Restaurant, a classic eat-in-the-rough dockside eatery with views that will make you linger over your meal. While very private, convenience is a key feature of the house. You’re just 6 miles (10 minutes) to Cooks Corner (Route 1) in Brunswick, which has all the shopping you could want. Nearby downtown Brunswick features unique shops and many many truly fine, yet casual, restaurants. In fact, Brunswick has become noted as a 'foody' town. Should a rainy day befall your stay, the town has museums and sites to explore at handsome Bowdoin College. Museums include the Perry-MacMillan Artic Museum and a splendid, newly renovated art museum. Maine Summer Theatre and the International Music Festival are on campus. The General Joshua Chamberlain Museum, famous for turning the tide at Gettysburg, is across the street. If you're a history buff, it's a must. Off campus is the Pejepscot Museum, the town’s historical museum. An old mill building on the river has been converted into an antique mall. Freeport (think: LL Bean and scores of outlet stores) is another ten minutes south and Portland is an easy 45 minutes from the house. Portland is a wonderful, small city with much to offer, including the Portland Sea Dogs, the Red Sox AA affiliate. Five minutes north of Cooks Corner on Route 1 brings you to Bath, a maritime center with shops, the Maine Maritime museum, and more fine restaurants. Down East Maine extends before you along Route 1. Reid and Popham Beach State Parks are nearby, both fun to explore with good beaches. Beyond Bath lie Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta, and all of mid-coastal Maine -- easy day trips. Harpswell itself is a great town to explore. Bowdoin has an ocean study center on Orr's Island with easy trails to the water. Over the unique crib stone bridge lies Bailey Island, which also has town beaches and the Giant Stairs park. To help you plan your trip, we provide renters with a House Guide, which has information about the house and also about the area, including sightseeing, shopping and restaurant listings with our own reviews. We also have a basket full of local maps and tourist brochures you are welcome to use. Our house is a wonderful place for a vacation retreat. It is in a small association of year-round homes, not with other vacation houses. If you want to party all night with fellow nearby vacationers, please keep continue your search. (We're not asking you to be stoic vacationers, but we want people appropriate to the setting.) Note that our house is pet friendly; we bring our cats occasionally. (They earn their keep.) If you have severe pet allergies, this may not be the house for you; weekly cleanings may not remove all pet hair. (One of our parents has mild allergies and does just fine on her visits.) While you may use the Association dock, the rental does not include 'docking privileges,' that is, you can't dock a motor boat there. Canoe, kayak, and boat rentals are available very close by. Pricing includes use of linens and 9% State of Maine occupancy tax. (Others may not, but we choose to obey the law.) Airbnb does not provide the capabilities to make the tax a separate line item, so we build it into the price but charge a cleaning fee that serves as the tax. We try to have consistent pricing here and on other sites. We also stock the house with at least starter supplies of basic household consumables (laundry & dish detergents, soap, paper towels, etc.) so you don't have to run to the store immediately upon arrival. Rental period is from Saturday to Saturday in peak summer season. We do long weekend rentals in fall and spring, but we only do full week rentals in peak season. (Note that we have 3-day minimum charge.) And not to throw cold water on your idea for a wedding, but we do not host wedding parties at our house. The logistics would just be too daunting. Keywords: Harpswell Waterfront Vacation Rental -- Beautiful & Convenient Guest AccessAccess to entire house and 2-bay garage. Exclusions are locked cabinets and storage space next to garage bays. The NeighborhoodWe're part of a small Association that owns the common, nearby dock. Our road has but 4 houses on it. So, it's private. Cundy's Harbor is the less touristed part of Harpswell, but we have the best access to Bath, Brunswick, and beyond. Getting AroundYou'll need a car, but you can fly into Boston (BOS), Manchester (MHT), Portland (PWM), or if you're a pilot, Brunswick Executive Airport (BXM), which is very close by. Amtrak runs to Brunswick -- 8 miles from the house. Other Things to NoteWe provide a House Guide with information about the house, the property, and the area with ideas for day trips and restaurant reviews. IEdgewater is a classic 1920's Maine coast cottage which has been recently updated with new systems and appliances. It has been restored with an eye to retaining its original cottage appeal while meeting today's standards of comfort. It is located 20 feet from the water's edge in a quiet coastal setting. The cottage is on a private half-acre lot, which abuts a small Audubon sanctuary. The first floor is an open concept design. There is a sitting area with a stereo CD player, a living room with a wood stove, a television with a satellite dish and DVD player and a well-appointed kitchen. There are newly finished hardwood floors, and water views from every area. On the ocean side of the house, the front door leads to a large screened-in porch. The porch wraps around from the western side of the house (which faces the water) to the southern side, and has over 500 square feet of screened-in outdoor living and dining space. Pets considered on an individual basis.

As you drive down the private association road toward our Three Island View house, you'll see why you'll enjoy your stay. The view of the New Meadows River opens before you. ('River' is a misnomer; it's an 'embayment' or extension of Casco Bay.) Once inside, the chalet-style house’s open feel directs you to these extensive ocean water views, and you’ll spend much of your time on the large wrap-around deck with deck furniture and BBQ grill. The spectacular sunrises from the house will invite you to be an early riser (though they're best in the fall and spring). Set on two private acres with a large yard and over 300 feet of owned ocean water frontage, the house looks out to a tidal basin replete with bird life - and clams to be dug for dinner (permit needed). Herons, osprey, wild turkeys, and even a pair of pileated woodpeckers are visitors to the yard. We've watched bald eagles circle overhead. Lobster boats lie in constant view from the house. Your morning coffee from our deck will taste extra special. Our house is a wonderful place for a vacation retreat. It is in a small association of year-round homes, not with other vacation houses. At the end of the road, a leisurely 3-minute walk away, lies the Association dock from which you can launch a canoe or kayak to explore the coves of the area -- or just get lost in the moment. >>> The Appeal: Peaceful, Beautiful, Away From It All, Yet Convenient <<< THE LOCATION: Our house lies in the Cundy’s Harbor part of Sebascodegan Island in Harpswell. (Don’t worry; you don’t need a boat. The Gurnet bridge crosses from Brunswick to Harpswell.) Three miles to the south is the quaint, picturesque, working fishing village of Cundy's Harbor with its lobster pounds, small shops and Holbrooks Restaurant, a classic eat-in-the-rough dockside eatery with views that will make you linger over your meal. (See photos.) >>> Do check out our YouTube video for a tour of our house. (We painted the house last fall and haven't yet had a chance to redo the video. That's why the still photos look different.) Harpswell itself is a great town to explore. Bowdoin has an ocean study center on Orr's Island with easy trails along the Harpswell Sound. Over the unique crib stone bridge lies Bailey Island, which has town beaches, Lands End, and the Giant Stairs town park with walks along the granite rocks on the water. ~~~ THE AREA -- HARPSWELL & BRUNSWICK: While very private, convenience is a key feature of the house. You’re just 6 miles (an easy 10 minutes) to Cooks Corner (Route 1) in Brunswick, which has all the shopping you could want. Nearby downtown Brunswick features unique shops, including an old mill building on the river that has been converted into an antique mall, and many truly fine, yet casual, restaurants. ~~~ BEYOND HARPSWELL & BRUNSWICK: Freeport (think: LL Bean and scores of outlet stores) is ten minutes south of Brunswick and Portland is an easy 45 minutes from the house. Portland is a wonderful, small city with much to offer, including the Portland Sea Dogs, the Red Sox AA affiliate and the Old Port Exchange. Five minutes north of Cooks Corner on Route 1 brings you to Bath, a shipbuilding town still centered on the Bath Iron Works. (Note the mammoth cranes that dot the skyline.) Like Brunswick, Bath is replete with interesting shops and more fine restaurants. At the Maine Maritime museum you can take boat rides on the Kennebec River and maybe see a Navy frigate launch, as we did in 2012. Beyond Bath, Down East Maine extends before you along Route 1. Reid and Popham Beach State Parks are nearby, both fun to explore with good beaches. Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Pemaquid, Camden, and the rest of the peninsulas of mid-coastal Maine are easy day trips. We even had guests go to Acadia as a day trip, though we wouldn't recommend that. The fact that we're within easy reach of highways makes the return from day trips more enjoyable. Bailey Island is beautiful, but driving there after a long day trip or evening on the town takes some fun away. To help you plan your trip, we provide renters with a House Guide, which has information about the house and about the area, including sightseeing, shopping, restaurant listings with our own reviews, and emergency information (which we hope you won't need). We also have a basket full of local maps and tourist brochures you are welcome to use. ~~~ FINAL DETAILS: Note that our house is pet friendly; we bring our cats occasionally. (They earn their keep.) If you have severe pet allergies, this may not be the house for you; weekly cleanings may not remove all pet hair. (One of our parents has mild allergies and does just fine on her visits.) Of course, we have WiFi access with high-speed internet, a DVD player for the living room LCD TV with HDMI and VGA cables so you can plug in your laptop. See our own web page link nearby for more photos and details. Pricing includes use of linens. We also stock the house with at least starter supplies of basic household consumables (laundry & dish detergents, soap, paper towels, etc.) so you don't have to run to the store immediately upon arrival. Rental period is from Saturday to Saturday in peak summer season. We do long weekend rentals in fall and spring -- minimum charge of 3 days -- but we only do full week rentals in peak season. And not to throw cold water on your wonderful idea for a wedding by the sea, but we do not host wedding parties at our house. The logistics would just be too daunting. Please email us for more information. We do not include our phone number here because it just leads to a bevy of annoying telemarketing calls. Really. PS. If some of this copy sounds familiar from other property listings, it's because I write such good copy that others have 'borrowed' it.
