The SpaceAs featured in New York Magazine! Amazing historic victorian (ca. 1870) in front of a stream, in Historic West Cornwall, right past the covered bridge, nestled over 3 floors on a small hill in the middle of the trees. There is no house like it. Retaining every historical feature. Oozes of charm & style. With a farmers market right across the street! The house has amazing furniture retaining a great historic feel while adding a lot of charm and style. It's perfect for artists and couples wishing a romantic get away from the city. The house is on 3 floors overlooking the stream and town, right over the covered bridge and minutes away from 2 restaurants, a coffee shop, antiques, and the Housatonic River. With a great garden and huge stone steps. Enjoy views of the creek from the front porch and from patio on the second floor. Located in a historic West Cornwall, right past the covered bridge on the Housantic River about 2 hours from NYC. Accommodates 4 people comfortably in 2 bedrooms in 1,400 square feet of space over 3 floors. - 2 bedrooms - note guest bedroom has a heavy linen curtain separating it for the living space but not door. - 1 old claw foot bathtub and separate toilette. No shower. Please note the bathtub is separated from the bedroom with a linen curtain. Again no door. Also it is accessed via the bedroom. - 1 main living room with huge cathedral ceiling - 1 historic kitchen -- 1930s stove not working. Kitchen is rustic with found wood shelves and original 1890s open shelves. We have a toaster oven and induction hot plate for cooking. Full size refrigerator. - 1 - dining room, and fantastic day bed - 1 large front porch and patio on the second floor Pets are considered with security deposit. No smoking. Linens/towels included. Washer/dryer. From the May 20th 2013 New York Magazine article "Even the drive to this three-story 1870s Litchfield County Victorian is picture perfect: Pass through a covered bridge and you'll spot it peeking through the leaves, perched on an oak-dotted hillside. The two-bedroom, one-bath house has undergone a top-to-bottom interior restoration and a systems overhaul, which means you can bask in period charm (bay windows, a claw-foot tub, exposed-beam ceilings) without forgoing the ease of modern conveniences (reliable plumbing and electricity). The décor is a shabby-chic mix of plush velvet chairs, Shaker furniture, perfectly weathered Oriental rugs, and knickknacks from local haunts like Michael Trapp's antique shop (7 River Rd.; (phone number hidden)), just up the road. Fill your days with walks to the nearby stream, afternoon dips in Cream Hill Lake, and kayaking excursions on the Housatonic River." Most amazing, unique experience you can have in a truly character filled country house. The house is set on 1 acre, on small hill in front of a creek. About 3/5 the property is wooded on a hill. The sloped nature of the land combined with the woodland and water edges give the property a private feeling in summer, but with the walkable amenities of a country hamlet (post office, restaurant, café, antique shop – all in view of the covered bridge). Nearby are the historic towns of Kent, Lakeville, Litchfield, Great Barrington, and Millerton. Guest AccessEntire house. Please note that once during your stay we may need to have a highly trusted real real estate broker show the house one time. You will have ample notice if this happens and it will be quick. Front porch, second floor stone terrace, outdoor seating including 2 benches, 1 chez, 1 outdoor chair, and a small outdoor dining table. Interaction with GuestsHappy to help with any questions. Mary our neighbor who helps to manage the house is there for you. The NeighborhoodWest Cornwall is right over the covered bridge. There is a farmers market across the street, Wandering Moose Cafe for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and you are a short drive from at least 5 great towns. Lot's of great skiing in Catamount and Butternut! Getting AroundIt's a bit over a two hour drive from New York City. Other Things to NotePlease no pets. It's an old house with lots of interesting furniture and antiques. Please be careful of mud and of keeping the place clean and tidy when you leave. It's a home.

The SpaceThe cottage is in the woods, with a brook, plus 200 foot frontage on the Housatonic River, on a rural dead end road that leads down to the River. The bridge over the brook, the large deck, the extensive lawn, and the surrounding woods, provide a calm and beautiful spot in nature. The river is a five minute walk from the cottage through the property woods. It is one mile from the charming town of West Cornwall, with its covered bridge, the wonderful Wandering Moose Cafe, unique gift shops, and Shaker furniture store. The newly renovated cottage interior is 900 square feet with two bedrooms, sunroom, living room, kitchen and eat-in cove. Guest AccessThe house is not wheelchair accessible. The entire house is available to guests, though one closet is locked to store some personal items. Interaction with GuestsThe house and wooded property are all yours to enjoy. I will not be there though I am "on call" for any questions. The NeighborhoodLocated in the beautiful Litchfield Hills, the cottage is surrounded by lovely countryside and quaint and welcoming New England villages. It is 2 minutes from West Cornwall and its covered bridge, and less than 10 minutes from the Appalachian Trail, Mohawk Mountain Ski Area, Music Mountain, The Lime Rock Park, Road Racing Center of the East, Clarke Outdoors for kayaking, canoeing, and rafting on the Housatonic, and the Housatonic Meadows State Park for fishing, boating and swimming. It is 15 minutes from Lakeville and Lake Wononscopomuc, one of Connecticut's premier deep water lakes with swimming and boating, Lakeville is also home to The Hotchkiss and Salisbury Schools, many fine restaurants, multiple art galleries, and the Scoville Memorial Library, the oldest publicly funded library in the country. It is 20 minutes from the famous Sharon Green and Sharon's beach, tennis courts, and children's play area, and from Millerton, NY with its movie theater, art galleries, bookstore, an old fashioned diner, and the Rail Trail for walking, jogging and biking. The SpaceWe call our wonderful vacation home, 'Serenity', because all your stress and worries will disappear when you're here! This beautifully renovated, 120 year-old former mill sits just feet away from a lovely brook on a 7-acre, heavily wooded lot just off of Route 4 in Litchfield county, CT. In the summer, open the windows and you can hear the water flowing by from every room in the house. You'll love falling asleep to the sound! There's lots of room to explore on the property. Splash around in the brook, watch for trout, or just sit and gaze at the waterfall. We're very close to the Audubon preserve, so you never know what rare birds you might see (there's a Blue Heron that loves to stalk the brook trout right next to the house). Like looking at nature but don't want to be out in it? You'll love the screened in Arizona Room with large sliding glass doors on three sides. Feel like relaxing with a good movie? You'll enjoy the flat-screen TV and 24 hr. On-Demand movies through Comcast. Classic movie buffs will enjoy our Alfred Hitchcock movie library. Alfred Hitchcock was a good friend of a previous owner and often vacationed at the house! Of course, you'll never find a better spot for curling up with a good book. Check out all the dining, shopping, and other activities available in beautiful Litchfield County, then come home and relax with a bubble bath in the huge clawfoot tub. There's a fully-stocked kitchen with everything you need for whipping up a great meal and a nice big gas grill for those summer cookouts. In the winter months, you'll love being surrounded by a wintry wonderland as you are warmed by the cozy fireplace. Winter sports fans will enjoy the nearby Mohawk Ski Resort. We know once you've experienced 'Serenity', you'll never want to leave! Guest AccessThe main house and surrounding yard and brook will be yours for the duration of your stay. The driveway and garage, separated by a stone path from the main house, is shared by our main house guests and our caretaker apartment tenants (the apartment is on the opposite side of the garage from the main house, and cannot be seen from the house and yard areas). Interaction with GuestsWe manage the rental of "Serenity" remotely, so our interaction will only be through email and phone. You are unlikely to come into contact with our apartment tenants excepts possibly when taking out your car. They do not use the main house areas, and they know our guests come here for privacy and peace and quiet. The apartment tenants do have a dog, FYI, but it is on an electric collar/invisible fence system. The NeighborhoodLitchfield County is one of the most beautiful areas I've been to, which is, of course, one of the reasons we bought "Serenity"! It is the perfect mix of peaceful countryside living, with the benefits of great restaurants, historic sites, culture, shops/galleries, wineries, and plenty of festivals and activities throughout the year. Our place is located on a designated Scenic Drive, and whether you're in town for the fall colors, summer festivals, or snow season, it's just gorgeous! Getting AroundIt's the middle of the country, no buses, ha! We're about an hour and a half drive from the Hartford airport, and 15 or 20 minutes from the Amenia trainstation, which is about an hour & 45 minute train ride from Grand Central. At "Serenity", you will have access to one garage space, and two driveway parking spaces. Other Things to Note*** Please note: We charge an additional $20 per bed used other than the Master (flat fee, not per night), which allows us to offset the extra time the housekeepers have to do laundry for larger parties, while keeping the nightly cost down for single couples. Unfortunately, the AirBnB system does not have a way to include our normal "per extra bed" fee in your initial quote, rather than an extra Per Person fee (which would be higher). Please note that our weekly and monthly rate is all-inclusive, as well as the higher nightly rate for Holiday weekends and the Peak summer season, and there is NOT an additional charge per person on top of the $(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) (depending on season) per month, regardless of occupancy. If this affects your rental quote, I will reply with a "special offer" reflecting the correct pricing. AirBnB is working on a fix to this issue. We have a two night minimum normally, three night minimum during Holiday weekends. We generally require month-or-longer rentals during June-August, but will open any unsold dates up to shorter stays around May.

Our house is old and quirky and our style more shabby than chic; worn paint here and there, our antiques have patina, and the lawn is mostly moss and clover. It's quiet and you can't see the road from the house, but you may hear traffic in the yard or if the windows are open. You might see (and hear) a freight train across the river, but it's infrequent. The SpaceClassic and Modern New England Cape. So welcoming, you won't want to leave. We have internet, Roku, board games, and an ongoing jigsaw puzzle. But if you do venture out--within a half hour's drive (or less), you can reach so many charming, restaurant-filled towns: Kent CT, Millerton NY, Litchfield CT, Goshen CT, Lakeville CT, Salisbury CT. Go just a little north, up Rt. 7, and you reach the Berkshires and Great Barrington. Go a little farther south, and you hit Washington CT and New Milford. And we're extremely convenient to Lime Rock Par, Mohawk Mountain Ski Area, and the Appalachian Trail. Guest AccessThis is a "whole house" rental. The living room, dining room, kitchen, half bath, and one bedroom/office are on the first floor. Three bedrooms and the full bath are on the second floor. A washer and dryer are in the basement. There is a detached garage with room for one vehicle (a couple more can park in the driveway), and there's a slate patio off the living room. Interaction with GuestsWe probably won't see you in person, but we'll have a booklet of our thoughts and recommendations on the dining room table. And we'll have a file of local menus in the kitchen. We'll also provide a couple of local guidebooks. But if you have any questions, we can be there "virtually" in seconds. The NeighborhoodYou're in the country--but not isolated. A 5 minute walk takes you over the covered bridge and into West Cornwall (the Wandering Moose Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the RSVP restaurant is there for special occasions). At night you can faintly hear the Housatonic River rushing by, and you can see a million stars. Getting AroundTwo and a half hour drive from Manhattan, and it's an easy one. You don't have to take the Thruway, you don't need the Taconic--half of the drive will be on local roads with minimal traffic (and plenty of places to stop for gas, food, etc). We're about an hour west of Hartford. The northernmost Metro North station, Wassaic, is about a half-hour drive from the house. Other Things to NoteSomething you should know--if you put our exact address into your gps, it may take you farther "up the hill" than you need to go. The little map on the Airbnb site shows our location accurately...just .2 of a mile up from US Rt. 7.

Fort Housatonic is surrounded by trees and features cozy pine interiors and comfortable American antiques. Large living room, eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms, and a sun room. Plenty of firewood for the fireplace or firepit. Enjoy lounging or dining on the huge deck overlooking the river and hills. Weber grill. We prefer full-week rentals in the summer, but are flexible. House is booked all weekends Jan. - March 7, 2017. Our kitchen has a Bertazzoni gas range, blender, waffle iron, microwave, and dishwasher. Kitchen is well-stocked with olive oil, sea salt, and the like. The house is furnished with sturdy comfortable American antiques and very child-friendly. Toys, games, books, bikes, sprinkler, big lawn, and safe paved area with basketball hoop. The path to the river is rough (we're working on it), but easy access is a short drive away. Drive around in the autumn for some of the best leaf peeping in New England -- and the prettiest covered bridge. The main bedroom (downstairs) has a double bed. The other (downstairs) has a queen. Upstairs bedroom has two twin beds joined together as a king (may be separated). The upstairs is cold in winter. Two daybeds in common areas aren't usually made up for sleeping, but may be. 100% cotton linens and towels are provided. Connect your device to our Bluetooth Bose outdoor speaker, Tivoli radios, or Crosley turntable. A 31" flatscreen TV and DVD player are tucked away for rainy days; collection of classic and kids' movies. Wifi available (at your cost). You'll have full run of the house, yard, woods, and 1000' of river frontage. No neighbors in sight. House is set well-off the road. Swimming: public beaches (fee): Lake Wononscopomuc (13 minute drive), Lakeville; Taconic State Park (20 minutes), or Lake Waramaug State Park (23 minutes). The house is in Sharon, but closer (three-minute drive) to West Cornwall, home of Connecticut's most picturesque covered bridge, a seasonal farmers' market, sweet shops, and two places to eat -- the Wandering Moose and a quirky French restaurant, RSVP. Tennis: public courts at Hotchkiss and Salisbury schools, call to confirm availability. Dogs: welcome, there's a big yard and it's set back from the road. Good hiking trails nearby. Dogs love splashing in the river, however it's not good for swimming. Long Pond Park in Salisbury/Lakeville has a dog park where dogs can swim; also Pond Mountain trail in Kent is dog-friendly. Dates are somewhat flexible, so contact me directly if the time you want is blocked off. All weekends Jan-March 7, 2017 are booked. Caveats: Our house is old and quirky and our style more shabby than chic; worn paint here and there. We practice natural landscaping, so the lawn is mostly clover and moss. It's very quiet and you can't see the road from the house, but you might hear traffic in the yard or if windows are open. You might see (and hear) a freight train across the river, but it's infrequent. The river path is very steep and needs restoring (we're working on it). Along the river is rough too. We're on a well, so please conserve water -- short showers, don't run water unnecessarily, and only run the dishwasher when full. Cleaning fee: $75 Rules: - No big parties - No smoking - Well-behaved pets welcome (no fence).
