(Cincinnati OH) Date of Stay: 12/10/11 Review Submitted: 12/30/11 My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your villa. The views from the villa were amazing and was very nice and comfortable - I would have been just as happy staying at the villa the whole week as I was touring the island. I loved using the binoculars at the villa; it was fun investigating the island and its wildlife from the comforts of the covered porch. The books there were also a nice touch and added to our relaxation. The beaches on St. Thomas and St. John were some of the most beautiful I have ever seen!! Island driving was an adventure, but fun once we got used to it!! Thanks, again for sharing your villa with us. We look forward to visiting again, Deb H. Cincinnati OH ***************************************************************** 5/5 Paradise Found! Guest: Melissa & Kirk (Kensington, MD) Date of Stay: 07/10/11 Review Submitted: 07/25/11 Blue Horizons Villa is the perfect place to enjoy St. Thomas and to have a "home-base" for day trips to neighboring islands. The view is so spectacular and the house is very charming, spacious and relaxing - a perfect getaway in the Caribbean. We were welcomed at the airport by Debi, the house manager, and she provided us with excellent advice and recommendations and made us feel very welcome. She checked in on us frequently and made us feel so welcome and taken care of. We loved the location of the villa - we felt as though we were close to everything yet being up on top of the mountain gave us beautiful views, quiet away from the busy town and cool Caribbean breezes that kept the heat and bugs away. This villa (and Debi) are true treasures of St. Thomas - you can't help but feel relaxed and happy sitting by the pool watching cruise ships come and go. Also, every meal we ate out was excellent; from burgers to seafood and from little pubs to fancier restaurants, we enjoyed each meal very much. Thank you to Louis for the suggestion to begin each greeting with "Good morning, good afternoon," etc. ~ we found people to be very polite and friendly and we were happy to know the proper way to greet one another on St. Thomas. Thank you to Debi for recommending Sib's; we arrived on a Sunday evening when many shops & restaurants were closed - Sib's was open and we had a delicious meal and just a short ride back to the villa afterwards - we enjoyed it so much we ate there again at the end of our trip. We had a fabulous vacation at Blue Horizons Villa and we recommend it very highly. Owner response:Melissa thank you very much for the glowing review and I hope to see you back next year. ******************************************************** 5/5 Spectacular! Tremendous! Serene! Guest: Pat Meyer (River Falls, Wisconsin) Date of Stay: 02/20/11 Review Submitted: 02/27/11 Six of us ladies from Wisconsin spent a week at this wonderful home away from home and couldn't have asked for anything better. The villa was roomy, clean, had everything we needed, and was a quiet, serene place for all of us to unwind and find some "quiet" in our lives. We ventured out pretty much every day for some reason or another and driving the windy, hilly roads were quite an adventure to say the least. Hopefully we'll get the rental van back to the airport in one piece. We always loved coming home to our awesome view and quiet away from the crowds. Debi was great and was there for anything we needed. We did have a trasher bird that seemed to think he was staying with us for the week. One night we came home from dinner and found him in the master bedroom eating a candy bar that he found on the bedside table. We had quite a laugh trying to get him coaxed outside. We came across a few other strange critters, but it kept things interesting. As far as activities & restaurants - we ate at Duffy's Love Shack and Hook, Line & Sinker which were just "okay"....Iggies on the Beach was our favorite. We spent the afternoon at their beach, had a great dinner, and stayed for the live music. We spent a day at St. John's also which is something everyone should do when staying on St. Thomas. We ate a few of our meals right here at the villa and ate out on the deck with the wonderul twinkling lights of the harbors. It was something we've never experienced before on a vacation. Louis & Debi - thank you so much for everything you have done to make our vacation week the best it could be. We couldn't have asked for anything more. These Wisconsin Girls are sad to have to go back home to below zero temps and the new 20 inches of snow that fell while we were gone. Thanks again for a wonderful vacation! Owner response:Thank you for your kind words. I am very happy that you had a good time and hope to see you back soon. ********************************************************* 5/5 Ten days of pure fun! Guest: Nancy & Ron (Surprise, AZ) Date of Stay: 01/12/11 Review Submitted: 01/29/11 We stayed in this lovely villa with three other couples who came to St. Thomas to attend a beach wedding. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived as the views from this villa were magnificent. We so enjoyed the pool and were pleased it was out in the sun. However, it we wanted shade there were four large umbrellas with double wide lounge chairs under each. The porch was used as we ate all meals outside. The house was extremely clean, bright, and very cheerful. We would definitely stay here again. We appreciated the way the villa was kept up. Thanks for making this a memorable time for us. Owner response:Thank you for the kind words. I really hope we will see you again soon. *************************************************** 5/5 Wonderful View Guest: Jenny (Red River, NM USA) Date of Stay: 10/13/10 Review Submitted: 10/26/10 This house was great for our two combined families. This owner is wonderful to work with, and it is extremely nice to have someone on the island while you are there that can respond to the guests (he has someone that is local that you can call for information or assistance.) The private pool was my son's favorite part of the trip. I would highly recommend St. Thomas and this particular house. You cannot have a better view!! ********************************************************** 5/5 Nicer than the pictures show Guest: Heather (Bellefonte, PA) Date of Stay: 08/17/10 Review Submitted: 09/14/10 Just a quick note to say thanks for allowing us to stay at your home during our vacation to saint thomas. It was a beautiful property and we all had so much fun there & exploring the islands. When I first walked into the house I was happy to see that it was nicer than the pictures had shown. Debbie was so wonderful and welcoming. My only regret is only staying one week. There is so much to see and do it was hard to pack everything into just one week. The house was beautiful with great views. Everything was as it is described. Very large, open rooms, high ceilings. We had everything we needed at the house. **************************************************** 5/5 Ideal St Thomas Setting Guest: KJAK (Milwaukee, WI) Date of Stay: 04/24/10 Review Submitted: 06/04/10 We had a wonderful week at your St Thomas house! The view, pool, and layout of the house made it an ideal setting. My parents travelled with us so having the bedroom downstairs meant that they did not have to get up at the crack of dawn with our 3 and 1 year old girls! The full size crib meant our 1 year old slept just as good as she does at home and everyone was happy! Mornings on the porch were one of our favorite times of the day. The house and surrounding property had plenty for the girls to explore-namely the iguana's, lizards, and birds! We definitely enjoyed dinners on the porch and in fact, grilled out every night we were there. We appreciated the fact that it was a bit cooler up at the house than down on the beach. Magen's Bay Beach was superb. We were a little worried about having to drive to the beach rather than walk but Magen's Bay Beach is so convenient that we often went there twice in a day. Beautiful sand, lots of shade when we felt hot, crystal clear water, and friendly people. The house and location totally suited us and the needs of our young children. If we return to St Thomas we would love to stay at your place again! Owner response:Thank you for all of the kind words and we hope to have you back in the future. *************************************************** 5/5 A Blue Horizon Escape for Everyone! Guest: Susie759 (Indiana) Date of Stay: 02/19/10 Review Submitted: 05/24/10 My husband and I stayed at this great house in February. It was just the place we needed to escape and unwind from the Indiana winter snows. The home was extremely comfortable with plenty of room for any size family, couples or a girls vacation. Very clean. The view of the island from this mountain house deck are absolutely breath taking. The photos listed are up to date and accurate. The owner and property manager were very courteous and were there to assist with any requests. Owner response:Susie, I really appreciate the kind words and hope to see you back next year. **************************************************** 5/5 Amazing views, beautiful vacation retreat! Guest: LoveBug10 (Dallas) Date of Stay: 06/11/09 Review Submitted: 04/20/10 A perfect retreat in St. Thomas! The house is simply amazing. The view from the balcony is the most beautiful view on the island. It is open, spacious and comfortable for more than one family traveling together. The balcony provides a beautiful setting for dining or peaceful moment reading in the hammock. The pool and deck are an added bonus. The house has great linens and a fully stocked kitchen. We would love to rent this amazing retreat year after year. The owners know everything there is to know about the island. They were so helpful in planning a perfect vacation! It is fabulous! Owner response:Thanks for the great review we hope to see you year after year. ***************************************************** 5/5 Fabulous home in St Thomas! Guest: cosmos01 (Dallas) Date of Stay: 03/29/10 Review Submitted: 03/29/10 I fell in love with this beautiful home. I could have not left the property for the entire vacation! The home was clean and decorated so beautifully. The linens where that of a 5 star resort and the owner was so helpful to us. The 5 minute drive to the beach was great and the restaurants close by were delicious....but we ate a lot of meals at the house and sat outside on the patio and just enjoyed. One of my favorite things was to wake up every morning and watch the cruise ships come in! I cant wait to go back to the beautiful island of St Thomas. We recently had the pleasure of hosting a lovely foreign ambassador to the United States and her daughter at Picara Pearl Villa & Suites Magens Bay. It was a getaway in celebration of the daughter's birthday. So, we provided a homemade chocolate cake and cupcakes for them in addition to our usual welcome basket. In their review they wrote the following: "This was a beautiful location, the last house on the peninsula, with a perfect view out over the water and the sound of waves day and night. The flip side of this of course is that it's a little more isolated than some other accommodations might be, but it's a price we were very willing to pay for the lovely panorama. We really appreciated the advance information sent by our hosts as regards weather forecast, cruise ship traffic, etc, and the baked goods and bits and pieces already stocked in the fridge upon arrival." They followed up by saying, "We had a really nice time and have been mentioning to our friends! Thanks for helping us arrange the stay." Testimonial from our recent guest who rented with us directly: "My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to be the first guests at these brand new suites at the tip of the Peterborg Peninsula. Situated right on the water overlooking Magens Bay, the views are truly incredible, and the sounds of the water will lull you into relaxation! Walk right out your door to the rocky point at the end of the peninsula and enjoy a beautiful sunset, or watch it from your balcony. The homes across the bay light up after dark providing an enchanting evening view-- a nice surprise our first night! The area is very private and peaceful, and the cozy suite has everything you need to feel at home. The hosts, Vivian and Franklin, are a wonderful, retired couple who love welcoming guests and really go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay--Vivian even made us homemade tea and chicken soup when we got sick! Estate Peterborg is in the northside area, the coolest and quietest area of the island. We chose this location primarily for its privacy. Picara Pearl is the last villa near Picara Point overlooking Magens Bay making this vacation rental even more private and special. It feels like we're on our own little secluded island. Yet, St. Thomas is so small that we are never too far from the fantastic things it has to offer. We also enjoy that our home is directly above Magens Bay. Please browse our website to learn everything you need to know about renting a villa in St. Thomas and how this spectacular villa can be the home of your next tropical getaway. We have just finished our first year of renting out our much beloved family holiday villa and the most common notes from our guests say that they loved the views, the peace, the many spaces where guests can have solitude or where they can gather easily in many groups. Also the kitchen is a big hit ( we are big cooks, so no shoddy rental kitchen equipment), and the fact that our furniture is new and comfortable and clean and all is well maintained. The SpaceThe house was once owned by the Mexican General Santa Anna of Texas's Alamo fame in the 1850's and by General Vilbrun Guillaume "Simon" Sam, a President of Haiti in the late 1800's. Kitchens were built away from the main house because so many houses were destroyed by kitchen fires. Charlotte Amalie was destroyed six times by fires and building laws were changed as a preventative measure. Few original kitchen cottages remain intact in the Caribbean. Guest AccessThe cottage is securely nestled in the enclosed courtyard garden behind the main house. Guests will have access to my private roof terrace overlooking the cruise ship harbor. Interaction with GuestsI am a very experienced Airbnb host. I have hosted over 325 successfully completed trips here on St.Thomas and currently have over 145 reviews that you can read. So, if you're trying to decide between my listing and one of my friendly competitors here on St.Thomas...go with experience! Upon check-in, I will quickly go over the map of St.Thomas to get you comfortable on where you are. I have two print-outs that I make available, one is of mine and my guests favorite nearby restaurants and how to get to them, the other is of our favorite beaches. I am a very non-intrusive host, but if needed, I live on the top floor of the main house. Don't be afraid to use anything in the cottage. If you have any questions while your here, I will respond promptly to texts and emails. The NeighborhoodThe house sits on the western edge of the historic district (I think it's the best part) of Charlotte Amalie. Almost all of the houses were built in the early 1800's and today, many are being renovated. Bring your camera because you'll take many pictures of this unique neighborhood with it's many interesting landmarks. Go on a guided walking tour of the historic district, try the awesome Trinidadian roti in town, go kayaking in the mangroves, take a fun ferry ride to St. John for the day, buy a papaya and a mango for breakfast at the farmer's market, see who can find the tackiest souvenir at Thieves Market, hop a quick ferry ride to Water Island and spend a lazy day at Honeymoon Beach or take a nice leisurely walk to Frenchtown for dinner. You may even want to go shopping for duty free bargains just a minute away on Main St. Take home an experience....not just a vacation! Getting AroundAn added benefit to staying here is the ease in getting around. Taxi's are plentiful but can be expensive. The increase in demand for rental cars during our high season makes them pretty expensive as well. We have a great alternative that we call the "dollar safari's". Just jump on one of the many of these converted pick-up trucks with bench seating and ring the bell when you want to get off, hand the driver a dollar and you're on your way! You can get around to most of our little island this way for just a dollar! The ferry to St.John is literally a three minute walk to where it docks in the harbor. The seaplane to St.Croix and the ferry to the British Virgin Islands are both an easy ten minute walk away. There is a real farmer's market two blocks away where you can buy fresh Caribbean fruit and vegetables. Across from the market there is a good corner store for convenience type items. There is a large, American style supermarket for groceries about a mile away. Other Things to NoteThe kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, toaster, coffee maker, frig, an electric cooktop and a convection oven. There will be two fresh bath, hand towels and wash cloths in the bathroom. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom. There is an iron and ironing board in the bedroom. The bed is brand new and will have four pillows and freshly laundered linens. There will be two beach towels and an umbrella for your use. There are maps of both St. Thomas and St. John for my guests to use. The SpaceConveniently located in town and just across the street from The Bunker Hill Hotel, this apartment is all about convenience, comfort and original architectural detail that will appeal to both foodies and history buffs alike. It's ok too, if you just like the idea of a big, fully furnished apartment ideally located for less than half the price of most of the hotels here. Guest AccessPlease feel free to make yourself at home here. Restaurants are relatively expensive here. Why not cook in occasionally and save some money? Interaction with GuestsI am a very experienced Airbnb host. I have hosted over 325 successfully completed trips here and currently have over 145 reviews that you can read. So, if you're trying to decide between my listing and one of my friendly competitors here on St.Thomas...go with experience! Upon check-in, I will quickly go over the map of St.Thomas with you so that you'll have a better sense of where you are on the island. I have two print-outs that I put together (with the help of my former guests) that you will find very useful. One is of our choice of favorite nearby restaurants and how to get to them from the apartment and the other is a print-out of mine and my guests favorite beaches and places of interest and the easiest way to get there. I am a very non-intrusive host, but if needed, I only live about five minutes away. Have a question? Send me an email or text, and I will respond promptly. The NeighborhoodThe historic district is small, but chock full of interesting nooks and crannies to explore. Walk over to the farmer's market at "Market Square" and buy a papaya and a mango for breakfast, go on a guided walking tour through the historic district, jump on the ferry to St.John (right down the street) for a day trip, go kayaking in the mangroves, see who can find the tackiest souvenir at Thieves Market, have a fun night out in nearby Frenchtown, do a day sail and go snorkeling with friendly fish around Buck Island, take the little ten-minute ferry to Honeymoon Beach on Water Island or just walk down to Main St. to find some duty-free bargains. Become a traveler, not just another tourist. Take home an experience, not just a tan! Getting AroundThe apartment is about 3 miles from the airport. It's an $8 (plus $2 per bag) fare. The ferry to Tortola and the seaplane dock to St.Croix are only a ten minute walk from the apartment. The ferry to St. John is a three minute walk away. We have this great local transport system here that's unique to the Caribbean that we call the "dollar Safari taxi". Find the nearest pullover spot on the waterfront road, jump on one of the many safari's that will pull over for you, ring the bell when you want to get off, give the driver a dollar and you're on your way! Taxi's are plentiful and you can either walk to a taxi stand in a few minutes or call a dispatcher to pick you up. There are two corner stores only a couple hundred feet from the building for convenience type items. There is a large, American style supermarket about one mile away. Other Things to NoteGuests will be given the secure Wi-Fi passcode upon arrival. The king bed will have clean, fresh bed linens and there will be bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths in the bathroom. There is an iron and an ironing board in the closet. The SpaceOur house is new construction, 1000ft elevation and nearly 360 degree views. The guest cottage is a separate structure across the driveway from our the main living area, where we live. The cottage is comprised of two bedrooms both with outside access, the right bedroom (east facing) would be yours. There is parking in front of your room. The bedroom boasts a lovely king bed, air conditioning, a dresser with a small hanging space, and an outdoor patio with east facing view. You can see the sunrise from the bedroom! It has an elegant, private en-suite bathroom with tiled shower. The bathroom is around partition wall from the bedroom but not a separate room (see the photos). We provide a small k-cup machine with k-cups for each morning of your visit, a refrigerator, hair dryer, pool and bath towels. The pool is across the driveway and can be accessed without going through our house. You are more than welcome to swim and sit out on the pool deck overlooking the view whenever you'd like. We are on a private road and have a nice community of neighbors who look out for each other. We are 5 minutes from Magen's Bay and within 10 minutes to many superior dining spots. We also have 3 very friendly dogs that live on the property. Guest AccessYou have your own parking space in front of your private room which is the right side of the cottage. You may also use the pool whenever you'd like. We share the driveway. Interaction with GuestsWe can interact as little or as much as you want. Both my husband and I work full time during the week and spend most nights and weekends at home working around the house. We have a baby who is home during weekdays with a Nanny. The NeighborhoodWe are on a private road and have a nice community of neighbors who look out for each other. You can walk up and down the road for exercise but otherwise there is nothing in walking distance. We are 5 minutes drive to the nearest beach and within 10 minutes to fabulous restaurants and bars. Getting AroundTaxi service is available but difficult so we highly recommend everyone rent a car. St. Thomas is not walking friendly and there is nothing in walking distance to from our house. Transportation is necessary to get to any stores or restaurants and we do not provide meals or access to the kitchen. Having a rental car gives you all the freedom to get around and relying on taxis can be more expensive and less convenient. Other Things to NoteProvided: Bath towels Pool towels K-cup machine K-cups, sugar, powdered creamer Coffee mugs Cork screw 2 wine glasses A small fridge Hair dryer This is our primary home and the rental space is a private bedroom, across the driveway, from our house. We live in a residential neighborhood about 15-20 minutes from the airport. St. Thomas does not use GPS locations for residential areas so it is not easily found on a GPS. It is important that guests follow the directions that we provide at the time of booking to find the property. Guests with a sense of adventure who want to meet local people are encouraged to book with us. Our rental is not a substitute for a 4 or 5 star hotel, but we strive to proud clean and modern accommodations at an affordable price for St. Thomas. Also, the Humane Society of St. Thomas is an overloaded shelter and puts animals to sleep. Please help our shelter pets get a second chance in an off-island no-kill shelter. We foster so while Peanut and Cashew may be around, there could be new faces as well. I work closely with the Humane Society to rescue dogs from St. Thomas and find them adoption homes in the states. If you are willing, we are always looking for travelers to transport a dog to the states. Someone will meet you at your destination airport and then bring the dog to a no kill shelter in the states. Ask me how you can help.

There is a passenger ferry dock located in the Red Hook where one can take day trips to St. John (The trip cost $5.00 per person, each way). The SpaceThis east facing bedroom has beautiful views from every vantage point! The ocean breezes keep you cool and refreshed while the lilting tunes from the steel pan down on the beach will lull you right to sleep! Guest AccessGuests are welcome to dive into the pool as well as relax in the hammock that overlooks the beach or gather together in the great room. Breakfast is served in the large open concept kitchen and can be enjoyed on either porch while the hummingbirds flit in to sip from the feeders! Interaction with GuestsI will be right here to answer all your questions and to give you some helpful ideas about what to do, where to go and where are the best places to eat and drink! I will never be in your way...but always close enough to make your stay a memorable one! The NeighborhoodThe Bolongo neighborhood is quiet and safe...just perfect for a home away from home stay. Guests will be surprised at the hills but the views are spectacular! To enhance your experience we highly recommend that you rent a vehicle so you can get to those "out of the way" beaches and enjoy dinner at some of our many five star restaurants! Getting AroundIf you are adventurous then renting a car is the right idea for you. Cars from the major rental agencies are available at the airport for easy pick up. We also can assist you in finding rental cars from local agencies for a better rate. Taxis are available right at the airport. There are two rates available: group or private. A group taxi takes a large group of people and drops them at their respective resorts. It is cheaper but takes longer to reach your destination. A private taxi takes you (and your companions) to your destination. It is more expensive but you reach your destination in a much shorter period of time. The dollar bus (safari) does not run in our neighborhood so it is not an option for airport travel. It can be accessed for travel around town from different locations. Walking is an option but only for those in shape and in need of a great cardio workout! Walking down is really enjoyable! Other Things to NoteThere are outdoor cats (Esther, Sam,Peaches, Pumpkin and Pie) which will catch your eye...especially around feeding time! They are all spade or neutered and are mostly visible in the early morning or around 6 pm. They are not allowed in the house for any reason!

I live in Dallas, Texas with my family so I am not on the island. Please contact me if you should need anything. My mother and sister live in the main house. Unless you are a truly intrepid hiker, a rental car is needed. We live at the top of a very steep and bumpy road which can be difficult to locate the first time, which is why we meet you at the airport and lead you to the house. Other Things to NoteBest way to find your way around St. Thomas is to have a smartphone with Maps.
