Kith and kin This is a home whose embrace is almost maternal, where wooden floors, period features and bursts of colour go hand in hand. There’s space here for everyone, from teens to teenies, and a few quiet corners where mums and dads can snatch precious minutes with a book. The garden’s particularly large, and if further steam-letting is required, walk to the endless turf of nearby Hampstead Heath. Pretty West Hampstead has a great range of neighbourhood restaurants and useful shops, and the West End is an easy tube ride away. Satisfying the whole brood is a tall order, but if anywhere can do it, it’s here. The ties that bind Your hosts are a happy clan who hail from Scotland. They and their black Labrador spend as much time as they can up north. And they’re getting ready for a new adventure – an extended visit to New York. Come one come all Detached houses are rare in London, and more elusive still are original staircases, and a grand hallway such as the one you’ll discover upon your arrival. Cross the chequerboard tiles to the first of three sitting rooms – two elegant spaces and a snug TV room packed with books. The rustic eat-in kitchen opens out onto the mature garden, and everywhere you’ll see gilt, shutters, art and heaps of cosy cushions. Point the kids in the direction of the two cheery single bedrooms and your guests to their spacious double, then retreat to the calm silence of the master suite. The ensuite bathroom’s yours and yours alone, and the kingsized bed will leave you rested and ready for the adventures of the morrow. If you’re happy and you know it Hampstead is filled with families and it’s easy to see why - the streets are broad and peaceful, the shops are abundant and, with Hampstead Heath close by, there’s plenty of space to play. Fly a kite on Parliament Hill, swim at Gospel Oak Lido, or mosey on down to the cobbled streets of Hampstead Village and check out some notably swanky boutiques. Closer to home, there’s a more cosmopolitan vibe to Kilburn High Road, and the tube from Kilburn to Oxford Circus takes around fifteen minutes. Additional amenities include: iron & ironing board, hairdryer, onefinestay iphone, cafetiere, toiletries. Cancellation Policy No-quibble cool-off period. Provided you book more than seven days before the start of your stay, you can cancel your booking no questions asked within 24 hours of making it, and we will refund 100% of any charges. Early cancellation. If you cancel at least 2 weeks before you are due to arrive, we will charge you 50% of the cost of your stay. Late cancellation. We’ll be as flexible as we can if you need to cancel. However, once you’re within two weeks of the start of your stay, we can’t refund your booking. Tube station: West Hampstead. Close to Hampstead Heath. Guest AccessUse of kitchen for morning tea/coffee only. Shared use of bathroom. Interaction with GuestsI love to host guests, but the interaction will depend on my schedule. The NeighborhoodWest Hampstead is, to all intents and purposes, just one street - West End Lane. It is located in the London Borough of Camden, in zone two of the London Underground. It borders Belsize Park/Finchley Road to the east, and Kilburn/Willesden to the west. In the north are Cricklewood and Golders Green, whilst to the south lie uber-refined St. John's Wood and Maida Vale. The area is home to three train stations (all, confusingly, called West Hampstead!) and is a bona fide yuppie stronghold. Though West Hampstead is hardly a place that springs to mind when you think nightlife, it has a smattering of good restaurants, pubs and bars. On the whole, the area's watering holes are towards the swankier (and pricier) end of the spectrum, and places tend to feel more mature feel than, say, Camden Town. In terms of nightclubs, Lately on West End Lane is a charming old-school dancing spot, whilst the Lower Ground Bar (also on West End Lane) flaunts its status as "West Hampstead's Premier Nightspot." Other decent after dark haunts on West End Lane include the Czech Bar and Ye Old Black Lion. The Gallery (Broadhurst Gardens) is alright too. The nearest cinema can be found in the O2 Centre on Finchley Road, but far nicer is Screen on the Hill (only a little further away) in Belsize Park. Getting AroundExtremely convenient public transport to the city centre or Canary Wharf (around 25 minutes tube) or Tate Modern (around 20 minutes tube). Other Things to NoteSafe, friendly and sophisticated.

The room and ensuite is entirely private from the rest of the family house. The house is a 5 min walk to the Finchely Road, where a constant steam of buses go to Finchely Road Tube Station (the Jubilee line and Metropolitan line) from here it is about a 10 min ride into the centre of town. The buses also go straight into London's West End, central London. It is a 30 min bus ride from my house to Oxford Street. The busses also go to the main line station of Finchely and Frognal which has overground trains that go all over London. My house is 15 - 20 mins walk from Hampstead tube station. This tube station is on the Northern line. It is a 15 min tube ride to Leicester Square. There is a very clear map provided on this site, where you can see all the tube stations. It is only 4 miles from central London, you can be in Leicester Square in 20 minutes on the tube - and yet it has the feel of the countryside. The history of Hampstead is generally traced back to the 17th century. It has shops and cafes and restaurants and yet also has miles of lovely Heathland, perfect for walking and picnics. It is the highest point of London and the air is clean and pure - far above the smog of the city. Getting AroundThere are buses straight into central London 5 minutes walk from my house. A ten minute bus ride takes you to Finchely Road tube station or Finchely and Frognal main line station. A 15-20 minute walk takes you into the heart of Hampstead Village, with Hampstead tube station and more bus routes into town. Laminated maps of the area with clearly marked routes to the shops and transport are supplied.
