You can spend hours walking through the neighborhood or stopping by Elizabeth Park to smell the roses. We are also nearby the Mark Twain House and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, as well as The Connecticut Historical Society. Getting AroundThe home is located less than 2 miles from Route 84, east or west. It is only a few additional miles to 91. There is a bus stop in front of the house that goes either into downtown Hartford or West Hartford. Additional lines are two blocks away on Farmington Avenue. Other Things to NoteEven though you will enter the house through the front, please park your car in the driveway on Fern Street. There is no overnight street parking.

The SpaceYou will enjoy the privacy of the entire third floor including your own bath. The bedroom has two twin beds and there is an entirely separate sitting area with a flat screen TV. Mini fridge and microwave are available on the third floor. You may use the coffee maker in the kitchen. Interaction with GuestsDodger is the world's friendliest dog. May bark when you enter, but only looking for love. I am happy to offer sightseeing or restaurant suggestions but am presuming that you would like your privacy. The NeighborhoodThe home is right across the street from Elizabeth Park, the country's oldest municipal rose garden. In addition to the flower beds, there are free summer concerts, tennis courts, baseball fields, playscape and a restaurant- The Pond House ((URL HIDDEN) that features both fine dining and casual snacks. Getting AroundThe home is located less than 2 miles from Route 84, east or west. It is only a few additional miles to 91. There is a bus stop in front of the house that goes either into downtown Hartford or West Hartford. Additional lines are a block away. Other Things to NoteThe house is on the corner. It faces Fern Street, but the driveway is in the rear on Concord Street. There is no parking on Fern Street and no overnight parking on Concord street. Please park in the driveway, which is on Concord Street behind the house, on the left hand side.

We are easily reached by highway or local roads, and are near many resources for outdoor fun or cultural pleasures. Places of Interest: The Wadsworth Atheneum; The New Britain Museum of American Art; Elizabeth Park and its world-famous rose garden; The Mark Twain House & Museum; The Old State House. Getting AroundPublic transportation is not terrific in Hartford. It would be useful to have a car or a bicycle for getting around.

Many very different type of Victorian houses to see. A variety of neighborhood restaurants 2 blocks away. Less than 1 mile from historic Elizabeth Park Bus line is one block away. Less than 2 miles from the train/bus station. 15 miles to Bradley Airport (BDL). The Bradley Flyer provides semi-express bus service from BDL for a one-way fare of $1.50 to Union Station in downtownHartford. Guests have found Uber very convenient! Other Things to NotePlease make inquiries and reservations at least 24 hours ahead of when you'd like to stay. Same-day-requests don't seem to work out.

Bradley international airport is 20 minutes north on Rt 91

I am a field scientist and my husband, Brett, is in the medical field, so needless to say, our schedules are fairly variable. The NeighborhoodWest Hartford, CT is a fantastic neighborhood to stay to enjoy all the New England has to offer. From our house you can walk to: -Park Road Business district: Hall's Market, Quaker Diner, 3 Sisters Antiques, J. Rene Coffee Roasters and Cafe, Park Tavern, Plan B burger bar, Thai, pho, wings, pizza -West Hartford Center (~1/2 mile): a picturesque few blocks of brick sidewalks with tons of restaurants, bars, boutiques, etc -Blueback square (~1/2 mile): REI, movie theatre, more restaurants, Crate and Barrel, Cheesecake Factory, Whole Foods, lots more! -Trout Brook walking/biking trail: paved trail that takes you to Blueback square. The greater Hartford Area boasts many attractions that include: -the Mark Twain house -the Harriet Beacher Stowe center -XL center -several local breweries Easy Day trips are limitless, but include: -CT coast (40-50 minutes): Many adorable New England costal towns such as Mystic and Old Saybrook. Beaches here are on Long Island Sound, so waves are minimal. -RI coast (50 minutes): Westerly and other famous New England beach towns are an easy day trip. These beaches are open to the ocean, so the water can be rough. -Boston (1.5 hr) -New York City (2 hr, no tolls!): parkway 15 runs strait into Manhattan, rarely has traffic, and there are no tolls! -Vermont: Reach the natural beauty of southern vermont in 1.5 hr and the Canadian boarder in 4 (not really a day trip). Getting Around-The closest airport is BDL (Hartford Bradley) and is about 20 minutes north towards Springfield, MA. There is no shuttle, or public transportation into Hartford that I know of. -Rental Cars are inexpensive from the airport and several locations around Hartford. There is an Enterprise ~1/2 mile from our house on Park Road. -City Buses: There is a bus stop at the end of our street and goes directly to downtown Hartford. Trip time is around 30 minutes. -Amtrak: Union Station in downtown Hartford is about an 8 minute drive. Several trains pass through on their way to New Haven (1 hr), New York (2 hr), Vermont (depends), etc. -Uber is now available in the Hartford area! Fares are low, $4-$20 just about anywhere in the Hartford area. Other Things to NoteNot only do we often open our home to people, but sometimes we open our home to foster dogs awaiting adoption. We consistently vacuum and mop to keep up with our fur baby's, well, fur, and obviously our dog won't be in the house during you stay, but please take not if you have a severe allergy.

Close to blue back square in West Hartford with lots of shopping and restaurants. Also close to downtown Hartford where the beautiful Wadsworth Atheneum and other great attractions await. Guest AccessThere is a lockbox on the front door and once your reservation is confirmed, you will receive the code. This will allow you to have keys to the door, that you will replace in the lockbox upon your departure. You will have access to the entire apartment including off street safe parking and front porch. Interaction with GuestsWe will likely not meet you in person since we reside abroad, but our tenants upstairs are very helpful and happy to answer any questions as is our housekeeper. We will respond promptly to your questions, but bear in mind the time zone difference. The NeighborhoodHistoric homes, mostly residential, quiet and safe, yet close enough to urban Hartford with a true city-feel and cultural diversity. Getting AroundThe bus is almost right outside the door, otherwise you can walk to WH center, as well as a few blocks stroll to our neighborhood pride, Elizabeth Park (the oldest municipal rose garden in the country!) with its timeless beauty, concerts and events, and wonderful restaurant The Pond House with dining al fresco in the summer. Several synagogues and churches in the neighborhood. A quick drive to other points of interest such as the Hillstead Museum in Farmington and the New Britain Museum of Art - founded in 1903, it is the first museum of strictly American art in the country! Other Things to NoteCeiling lights/fans in living room, master bedroom and second bedroom all turn on and off by pulling the chain from the fixture.

Any additional vehicles will need to be parked in the street - overnight street parking can be granted by calling the police in advance (though we have yet to receive a single ticket when we neglected to make the call).

There you will find at least a dozen restaurant/bars with a large variety (steakhouse, tapas, Mexican, etc) and on a weekend packed with people enjoying the bars.
