Easy Day trips are limitless, but include:
-CT coast (40-50 minutes): Many adorable New England costal towns such as Guilford, Mystic, and Old Saybrook. Beaches here are on Long Island Sound, so waves are minimal. We recommend Hammonasse, but be prepared to pay a parking fee.
-Two of the largest casinos in the US (45 minutes): Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods (we recommend Mohegan). Check out the Wolf Den for free shows most days of the week!
-RI coast (60 minutes): Westerly and other famous New England beach towns are an easy day trip. These beaches are open to the ocean, so the water can be rough, but they are much sandier with nicer swimming water.
-Boston (1.5 hr)
-New York City (2 hr, no tolls!): parkway 15 runs strait into Manhattan, rarely has traffic, and there are no tolls!
-Vermont: Reach the natural beauty of southern vermont in 1.5 hr and the Canadian boarder in 4 (not really a day trip). Getting Around-The closest airport is BDL (Hartford Bradley) and is about 20 minutes north towards Springfield, MA. There is no shuttle, or public transportation into Hartford that I know of.
-Rental Cars are inexpensive from the airport and several locations around Hartford. There is an Enterprise ~1/2 mile from our house on Park Road.
-City Buses: There is a bus stop at the end of our street and goes directly to downtown Hartford. Trip time is around 30 minutes.
-Amtrak: Union Station in downtown Hartford is about an 8 minute drive. Several trains pass through on their way to New Haven (1 hr), New York (2 hr), Vermont (depends), etc.
-Uber is now available in the Hartford area! Fares are low, $4-$20 just about anywhere in the Hartford area. Depending on demand the cost to/from the Cute Cape to/from the airport is roughly $30 each way.
