The SpaceThe cottage was built in 1950, but has just been updated and renovated. We opened up the kitchen into the living room, added a new deck and screened-in porch to the front of the cottage. It's all been painted with a new, clean color scheme and has been furnished with simple, comfortable furniture for your stay. There is also a glass-front wood burning stove for chilly nights, and a fire pit outside. The cottage is on a renowned Catskill trout creek, so bring your fishing license and catch some fish. We also have 30 acres for you to hike and explore, and are within walking distance or a short drive to several famous Catskill hiking trails. The cottage is 20 minutes from Phoenicia, Margaretville, Prattsville and Tannersville. Follow us on Instagram @mountaincreekcottage to see up-to-date pictures and photos of the area. While we only accept bookings through Airbnb, you can also find a lot more info from our site about the cottage and ideas about what you can do and where you can go when you get there. Guest AccessYou will be able to use the entire cottage, as well as have access to the 30 private acres surrounding the cottage and the hundreds of acres of NY State wild forest directly adjacent to the cottage property. Well behaved dogs are allowed for an additional $25 cleaning fee. No cats allowed. Interaction with GuestsWe live just down the road, but the cottage is private. We are available to answer questions, give suggestions and provide extra kitchen gear if needed. We also have an organic garden and honey bees, and can offer vegetables and honey when available. The NeighborhoodThough we are definitely in the country, and the closest grocery store is 20 minutes away, there is a farmers market every other weekend in the summer, a farm stand where you can buy vegetables and eggs down the road, several local maple syrup providers, and a bar up the road that is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A small craft brewery with a tasting room is opening up the road next year. The cottage is located on a Catskill creek that is renowned for fishing (make sure you get your fishing license before you come - the DEP does check!) The cottage is located on 30 acres for you to explore, bordered on two sides by state land. We are less than a quarter mile away from the trail head of the renowned Devil's Path hiking trail, and 1.5 miles away from an easy, short hike to a charming waterfall. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation directly to the cottage. You can take a Trailways bus to Kingston, NY or Woodstock, NY, but you will need to rent a car from there if you're not driving up from the city. A furnace and heaters for a chilly night if the fireplace is not in use and a radio and CD player as well as numerous games of all sorts to wile away the hours. Or just sit on the porch rockers and listen to the forest. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire main floor, front and back porches, the studio/library and freedom to roam along Mink Hollow's private road. The only area off limits is the attic storage area. Interaction with GuestsGuests are welcome to contact me by phone at any time with a question. The phone in the kitchen or living room may be used for calls anywhere in the contiguous 48 states. There is no internet or cell service in this remote location. There are service personnel available to assist with emergency situations, phone numbers are listed in the kitchen near the phone. The NeighborhoodThis is a true wilderness area which is a great attraction to many who come to the region to enjoy hiking and fishing or enjoying country life in it's most pristine form. Make sure that you bring all the necessary supplies as the nearest stores are a thirty minute drive away. Some basic spices are there for your use. The water from the tap is likely to be the freshest you have ever tasted and you are welcome to take a carboy or jugs of it home for your own use as we do ourselves. Getting AroundNot more than 200 yards from Mink Hollow are the beginning of a number of trail heads leading up into the state forests which surround this valley and at far end of the road is a trail that leads to a lovely waterfall and a number of other trails that crossover the mountains toward Woodstock. Other Things to NoteA major surprise for most people is that the private road leading up to the cottage actually fords a creek. Under certain weather conditions the creek can become too full to drive a vehicle through, in which case visitors will need to be prepared to climb up an embankment below the cottage from the main road and leave their vehicle parked next to the Mink Hollow road entrance.

About the area: New York's Catskill Mountains include one of the largest and most complex natural areas in the East - on par with the West's Yellowstone National Park. Round, forested mountains; narrow, winding valleys; rushing streams and rivers are features that attract many to the 600,000 acres of the Catskill Park. One of the best kept New York State secrets is Bear Spring Mountain Campground, well-known for its excellent hunting and fishing, as well as its facilities for campers with horses. A good multi-use trail system for hiking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling also is available. The Catskill Fish Hatchery near Livingston Manor is open to the public. Catskill streams offer some of the finest trout fishing in the East. Among the best known waters are Esopus, Beaverkill and Willowemoc creeks. Each year, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation stocks fingerling and yearling trout throughout the Catskills. Rolling hills, forested mountains, ponds, streams and historic sites can all be found within the Catskill Park. Some of the Catskill campgrounds are open in the spring for early fishing and camping, and in the fall for hunting and autumn foliage viewing. In the high peaks of the Central Catskills, a different kind of ski experience welcomes you: Belleayre Mountain and Forest Preserve skiing. It's a world of difference. Belleayre Mountain lies in the heart of the Catskill Forest Preserve on 'forever wild' land, unblemished by the blare and glare of commercialization. The mountain and its 33 trails are expertly maintained by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
