The Space"BEYOND NEW DAWN"............ Back in 1986 I started "NEW DAWN", offering outdoor trips for women, then building, owning and operating a retreat on Vieques, Puerto Rico for 15 years. When I returned to my home in Gloucester, Ma., I continued to enjoy sharing my home, and called it "AFTER NEW DAWN" from 2003 - 2010. Following my daughter and her family to Rhode Island, I moved close by and have more house than I need --- thus my continued joy of sharing with others....... in what I now call "BEYOND NEW DAWN". This is a 3 bedrm cape..... 2 available bedrms, 1 with a dble bed & TV, the other, smaller and has 2 twin beds. The tent site is separate and has its own listing. My home is 20 minutes to the beach or 30 min to Newport. In the winter it is heated by a wood stove and warmth of family & friends. A couple of decks, patio, hammocks and lawn chairs make it easy to find a quiet place to relax. Guest AccessGuests have access to woodland trails, - tent platform, if not occupied, fire pit, outside or inside hot shower, off street parking. Possible use of kitchen with arrangements made in advance Interaction with GuestsI enjoy meeting others, but also respect folks need and desire for privacy. Sharing my home, here and before, do not feel the need to entertain guests or share my life story. If asked, I'm happy to make suggestions or give directions. The NeighborhoodPersonally, I love that I am 3 houses down the street from my daughter and her family, which includes 3 granddaughters - and the reason that I moved here. Having URI in my backyard is a bonus. It is a very quiet neighborhood. Getting AroundThere is public transportation from URI - bus to Providence. About 2.5 mi away is Kingston Station, where Am Track travels. Twenty minutes away is Wickford station, with the MBTA to PVD and connections to Boston Other Things to NoteI have a tenant above my garage in a separate apartment. We're respectful of each other's space and would expect others to be likewise. Check-in is between 2 - 8 pm and welcome to come and go as desired. If extenuating circumstances, please let me know. 11 am is check out.

Ask permission before starting fire at fire pit. Some restrictions depending on weather & permits. I need to be on property. The SpaceHoping to relax in the country and escape the hectic pace of city life but be just close enough to a bit more excitement if needed such as Newport Block Island, and Providence ? This is your answer ! My quaint historic home is set on a scenic wooded ten acres . It provides a very comfortable, second floor private room accessed through a stairway that has been noted as "STEEP". The room has a queen sized real bed in an artistically decorated ,restored antique home in the woods. There is a full shared bath with shower . There is a second bedroom with a king sized bed, ( a separate listing). If you book both rooms the space is ideal for a family of four, or two couples traveling together. See the other listing (Yellow Room) for photos of the larger bedroom . A healthy breakfast of muffins, fresh fruit, juice, yogurt and coffee or tea is provided . The hostess' background includes starting the first vegetarian restaurant in Baltimore, Maryland and her muffins reflect this experience. Vinny the resident Chihuahua shares the home but does not have access to the second floor of the house where the guests stay, and three delightful pet goats and several barn cats are in the barn. There are NO INDOOR CATS. This non-smoking home is secluded on ten acres, yet 30 minutes from Newport, 30 minutes from RI ocean beaches, 35 minutes to Providence, and 12 minutes from University of RI Campus. It is ideally situated for parents visiting URI students, artists, music festival attendees, or outdoor enthusiasts. My home is close to good opportunities for walking ,x/c skiing, biking, hiking, and kayaking. If you are looking for less activity and more relaxation my home is a peaceful place to simply sit outside and enjoy nature's beauty or photograph the goats. Guest AccessGuests have use of an "almost private" bathroom with shower which is occasionally used by the host or the guests in the other bedroom if it is occupied. There is a full dining room for breakfast and a small refrigerator in the dining room for snacks. There is excellent wifi access. Breakfast, usually self serve, is provided in the dining room from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. Interaction with GuestsI am a friendly person and available for sharing information about the resources in the area as needed, and at breakfast time. Sometimes guests who are in town for music festivals and arrive very late may only see the host at breakfast, or not, if they need to leave very early. There is a separate private entrance for guests and very late arrivals can be easily accommodated. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is wonderful for bicycling and walking and appreciation of nature. Any restaurants or shopping are in driving distance only, but not far (10-15 minutes). I am 20 minutes to Newport, 35 minutes to Providence or Mystic, 10 minutes to scenic , historic Wickford Village where there are shops set in a quaint, walkable, beautiful seaside town. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation to or from my house, however, AMTRAK is 15 minutes away in Kingston, RI, near University of Rhode Island, and there are buses or commuter rail to Providence 10 minutes away. The commuter rail only runs on weekdays, not weekends. The property is secluded, so if you like to be walking distance to shops , Starbucks, etc. this may not be the choice for you. Other Things to NoteMany people visit because they love or are curious about goats and want to view them from the bedroom window, or go out in the yard and get up close and personal. One should be a dog lover, or at least not be bothered by dogs to stay here, as there is a well behaved Chihuahua, Vinny, on the premises. However he does not go to the second floor where the guest room is located. Several very good restaurants are within 4 miles, but there is nothing walking distance. There is no public transportation available directly to my home.

The SpaceLeave stress behind when you visit LUCIE'S HIDEAWAY, a very colorful, whimsical, happy oasis in the woods, abutting a small barn which is the home to three older female goats, who are quiet, and only speak when spoken to. The space is very well suited for parents visiting students at local colleges such as URI (10 minutes away) or RISD (35 minutes away) or Salve Regina ( 25 minutes away), for artists and writers and faculty needing privacy and quiet to complete a project, dissertation or publication, outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers wanting quick access to bicycling, hiking and kayaking, and if there is snow....x/c skiing !! In summer suited for ocean lovers wanting to spend time at the ocean without the crowds and noise at night or the summer beach house prices, Although LUCIE'S HIDEAWAY is a newly restored TINY HOUSE, the main room was originally the corn crib on this 200 year plus old property. Original beams are left exposed and there is a quaint historic feel. The main room is a very large, sunny open space. I have focused much attention to detail when decorating with redone "found" pieces, and pieces that have been in my family for many years. The space has a warm, welcoming feel. There are the original wood floors with a large colorful rug and six large windows and two skylights in the main room. There is electric baseboard heat and a wall heating unit, a window air conditioner and a ceiling fan. The sleeping area has a very comfortable queen sized antique replica spindle bed , an antique oak writing desk, and several comfortable chairs. There are book shelves, a small closet and wall hooks for hanging clothing. The space which is very sunny by day is also very well lit at night with antique floor and hanging lamps and additional overhead track lighting if desired. The work space table and dining table are both vintage enamel top and are separated from the sleeping space by an attractive fabric covered folding screen. The tables are suitable for eating a meal, or for providing a generous amount of space for spreading out art supplies, quilting or sewing projects or for organizing papers for completing a manuscript or an academic pursuit. A variety of art materials are on the premises. The kitchen and bathroom are BRAND NEW, completed in January of 2016. They are ecologically friendly {PLEASE NOTE: there is an odorless COMPOSTING TOILET.} The bathroom is compact, colorful and whimsically decorated in red and yellow. The TINY kitchen is stocked with everything needed for a good breakfast..(coffee, tea, juice, fruit, yogurt, , granola and oatmeal etc. ). It has an antique stained glass window overlooking the yard. There is a mini-fridge, a bar sized sink, a microwave, small coffeemaker and tiny-house mini toaster oven with griddle . The bathroom has a full sized shower, small sink and vanity and high tech environmentally friendly, odor free COMPOSTING TOILET. ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) "BIOLET EZ-LOO"to further learn about the amazing technology this appliance utilizes). If this simple and effective technology is not for you than please consider other accommodations !! Both rooms have tiled floors with rugs . Outside the main door is a small flagstone patio where there will be a table and chairs in the spring and summer. Remember that although the cottage is heated in the winter, it is NOT insulated so remains "on the cooler side" even with electric heat. Guest AccessLUCIE'S HIDEAWAY is a private tiny guest house which is accessible from a long dirt road driveway. There is no shared space in the cottage with any other guests or with the host. The host, Beth, lives in the main house which is beside the tiny house. The grounds of the property including the goat pen may be enjoyed. There is a short wooded trail, and there is safe walking on the streets nearby. You will be provided with a key to Lucie's Hideaway upon arrival. Interaction with GuestsI am a friendly person who enjoys meeting new people and I enjoy good conversation. Should you be looking forward to the serenity and peace the cottage provides rest assured I am totally respectful of guests' desire for privacy and I do not expect conversation if a guest is seeking to enjoy the solitude of the property. I will be available as needed to answer any questions about the cottage, the community , and resources in the area , and further explain some basic information before leaving the guest with the keys . In most cases I will be home in the main house and not out of town during the times I have guests. The NeighborhoodThe area is rural. Walking on the local roads is SAFE, and although any dogs in the area are either restrained or non threatening one should always use good common sense when walking in an unfamiliar area. There are many wonderful hiking trails , some as close as five minutes away. Kayaking on local ponds and Narragansett Bay is nearby. Bicycling on country roads and designated bicycle trails is also very nearby. Very Nearby is the Courthouse Center for the Arts, and the Greenwich Odeum, both which offer diverse music and theatre .Culturally rich Providence and historic Mystic are both about 30 minutes away. Newport which offers, music festivals, fabulous restaurants, sailing, glamorous mansions and more is about 20 minutes away. Guests often stay here and take a day trip to beautiful Block Island, which is one of the best kept secrets in New England. For guests who really just want to slow down and relax away from city hubbub, some excellent restaurants are right here in Exeter, just a short 10 minute drive or less from my house. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation directly to the house. TF GREEN Airport is 25 minutes away. Wickford Junction commuter rail which goes into Providence and Boston (does not run on weekends) is ten minutes away. The Kingston stop of Amtrak is 12 minutes away. It may be difficult to get taxi service to the house. It is best to expect that you will need your own transportation. If you are a bicyclist you can start out right from the house and have a fabulous day of biking ! I have two bicycles in good condition available for your local use . Other Things to NoteLUCIE'S HIDEAWAY accommodates one or two ADULTS. Unfortunately due to an important safety considerations Lucie's Hideaway is not a suitable accommodation for children. There is an older dog on the property, (Vinny, the Chihuahua) who is harmless, well mannered and generally quiet and friendly. He has no access to LUCIE'S HIDEAWAY, but it is worth noting that he is a resident of the property. The goats are fun and friendly, and fenced in. There are two outdoor barn cats who you might see roaming the property, but which DO NOT have access to the cottage. There are not facilities for guests to bring their own pets. This is a TOTAL NON SMOKING PROPERTY. Smoking of any kind is not permitted either in the house nor outside of the house. Although there are some kitchen amenities , please respectfully keep in mind that small meals which can be prepared in a toaster over or a microwave are what the kitchen is best suited for. There are many excellent restaurants in the area and I will gladly make recommendations. The composting toilet is technologically advanced and although it is neither an outhouse nor a porta potty, guests should recognize the fact that the property is best suited for those with environmentally conservative values regarding the use of the toilet and conserving water.
